I have this: Official Wireless Stereo PS3 Headset
Looks big and bulky, but is fairly lightweight, has great sound quality, and the battery lasts 8 hours. Love it. |

I have been researching this topic recently as well, I am going to be picking up some turtle beach P11's. They are roughly $60 and offer comfort as well as quality. The only drawback is that they are PS3 exclusive. As I haven't purchased them yet, I am only relating what I have gathered from massive amounts of reviews, but I will get back to you once I pick up a pair if you're still in the market. |

I bought a bundle in a local electronics store with Warhawk and a Bluetooth headset for $20 (both new).
I sucked at Warhawk and didn't have enough free time to bother getting good, so I sold it to a friend who already had a headset.
For $20.
Yes, I'm serious. I offered it for less, but apparently nobody was selling it that cheap any more. Free Jabra BT135 = win. |

Another vote for the PS3 wireless stereo headset. ( link already posted ). I have started using it for fleets lately as well, much better sound than the crappy bluetooth rig I was using. |

If you're going to use a mic, get an actual headset / bluetooth mic. I've not used a boom mic with my PS3, but I have heard others say they do tend to give off a lot of echo's / background noise. I also have a couple of Bluetooth headsets for my phone. 1 works great, the other is "OK" but the volume is low.
Personally, I use my original PS2 usb mic (yep the logitech one with the 20' cord) and I've had no issues with it on the PS2 or PS3 in any game that has VC. It has a mute button on it which I like so when I'm not talking / don't want to be heard, just hit mute; quick and easy. And from what I can tell, all the "official" PS items are made by Logitech. I haven't found a mic from them that hasn't worked yet. I've got 2 other logitech mics for my PC's, and they work just fine on the PS2 / PS3 as well. I also have a Plantronics which works great as well.
I have only ever found a couple of mics that just flat out don't work on the PS3
There's pro's and con's to each one
With a USB mic, you don't have to worry about re-charging the mic or having something interfere with the signal. But you are going to be limited to how ever long the cord is.
With bluetooth, you have to worry about re-charging and signal interference, but you you aren't limited by the cord. |

I'm still rocking my original Jabra I obtained from my purchase of Warhawk, back in 2007. I had the bundle too from SOCOM:Confrontation, but I gave that mic away to a friend who needed it more (plus he gave me some money for the mic.) Personally the best mics you purcahse that will last the longest (especially for your money) are USB headsets. I wish I had my SOCOM PlayStation2 headset. Best mic ever. The new official USB PlayStation3 headset is fantastic too though.

Roccano, there is certain settings you need to change so that does not happen. I have the TB P21 and they are amazing, 7.1 surround sound, separates voice and in game sounds, good base and it allows me to use my Ipod in the jack to listen to music as I am playing with out anyone but me listening to it.
I believe this is in PSN> Settings> accessory settings>Audio settings:
Setting the echo canceler feature If you hear audio feedback while using a microphone, select [Input Device], press the button, and then select [Settings] from the options menu that is displayed. Select an option and follow the on-screen instructions to adjust the setting. Set Echo CancelerPerforms the calibration procedure to reduce audio feedback. Restore Echo CancelerClears the echo canceler setting that was set previously.
I hope that helps you and the OP getting a new headset. TB is a great company, great product and I have been very happy the last two years with the same P21 set.

causes me to lag in this game, no other games lag from this headset that i've played. MAG, BF3, a bunch (nearly all demos) of PSN games. Dust is the only one with "lag" from the official headset. have you ever not played Dust with it? do you notice that walking, sprinting, hacking, ADS (aim down sight) has issues? |

I like the official PS3 bluetooth headset. When using it, the chatter comes over the headset, but the rest of the sound comes through my sound system, which allows me to focus on voice chat when needed. It also has a mute button, which can be handy when you need to talk with someone else in the room, but you do not want to distract your team. As well, there is a volume up button on the top of the device and a volume down on the bottom, which makes it very easy to control the volume of the chatter. It is fairly light, but I do notice a bit of irritation after using the headset for an all day session of Dust 514. |

Turtle Beach PX5.
Well worth the money.
Great noise-cancelling mic, excellent surround imaging, I love it.
I can easily find dropships, tanks, incoming vehicle drops, all of it with the sound.
There's even separate volume for voice chat and game sounds.
I couldn't imagine playing Dust without it. |
