I've been here since the very first wave of beta keys and up until this point any thread that even had the name mag in it was trolled heavily. Granted it wasn't by aqny means perfect I feel ccp can take a couple of notes from mag. Bevlieve it or not mag still has a loyal following even after all this time, so obviously they did something right. I thought the way MAG handled voip was fantastic. Communication between platoon and squad leaders or OIC and company, when used right. were really impressive. ^^This^^ Plus I want Dust to have the Squad Box (or something similar) on the HUD. The info in that little box at the bottom right of my screen was awesome: Who's Dead, Who's Alive, Who's waiting to spawn and how soon, Who's talking... I hope CCP implements something similar +1 for who is talking. I hate asking who people are. I do as well. |

I felt guilty till the forum community essentially rotted and decayed into what it is now. Same with Warhawk's community. Rotted, bloated and viscous. Then came Starhawk and the vile mass just subplanted itself atop Starhawk and nothing changed.
Well the only thing that changed was the big clans morphed together into super clans and egos only grew three times their sizes. Pathetic. Do I feel bad about what happened though MAG? Yeah. I miss playing it, and I miss the fun I had playing it. Would I put up with it now in it's current state? Nope. |

As a heavy MAG player, I am hoping DUST will be everything and more than MAG was. In MAG, after you've bought everything possible, you where still left wanting with a ton of cash to spend. I believe DUST has fixed this with their plan to introduce new items during the lifespan of the game and the purchasing of depleted units of a specific item. The expandability and customization of a characters in DUST is off the carts when compared to MAG, it reminds me of my days of Diabo 2, where you'd custom build a character to do a specific task, but it could still be different than others with the same build.
Bringing up Diablo 2 and MAG, is there a planned looting system in DUST for dead bodies? One could have a stash and have only a certain amount of items it could carry. So, after killing a guy, you could loot what you wanted from their bodies. In MAG you could loot their weapon, in Diablo the monster would just explode with goods. I could see it more like Elderscrolls where you can select a dead body and take what you wanted.

A looting system would be /amazing/ Loot and sell gear. Good on top profit. Or share the gear around with your group. Holy hell. That would add a whole level to the game... |

Well right now in the current build we can note and see that in some way there will be a "loot/salvage" mechanic. How it will function in-game is yet to be known. It will be fun to see how and what it really means for Dust though. |

Before you guys showed up, any mention of mag was flamed. Its good to see some positive voices giving input other than just eve-ers flaming. Mag had some great aspects that i would not only love to see in dust, but feel it could make this game so much more. The chat system in general was superb, Squad, platoon, proxy ect would be great in dust. But the first wave of non-mag beta players didn't feel the same way. You guys really should have seen the forums before you got here, it was pretty bad.
Like i said in my last post, I have over 1000 hrs into mag and have yet to find another game i can invest that must time into and still have as much fun as i did. I just really hope dust can evolve into that game, and i do see it happening eventually. But first CCP need to get their butts in gear and release a grouping system ASAP. Even with all the stupid imbalances in this game as it stands, they would be much more tolerable in the presence of good friends and/or good players that you know have your back. At least for me, playing with randoms just doesn't have that fun factor, especially when there is nothing but HAVs and dropships everywhere. |

1000 hours also in Mag,Community (Friends chatting and working together "clans" are why we could put those hours into that game ,Systems froze, lag rubberbanding .Friends made it bearable. |

Yes, what made MAG cool for me was getting off of work, grouping up with my clan, having a fun night of killing red dots and getting to know all the great, and not so great people in and out of the clan over voip chat. For me, it was a stress reliever and comedy central with all the fun/entertaining side chatter of our team mates. I'm sure DUST will get this implemented on their schedule. Right now, I think they've got bigger bugs to squish. I'm glad flaming MAG is toning down. MAG is a good game and DUST could easily be better if CCP researches what worked really well and what didn't. +1 to Platoon, Squad chat coordination. |

Rorek IronBlood wrote:Tony Calif wrote:Mike, guns and stuff to pay for = pay to win New game mode = pay for game mode The problem was the players, not the game. How many thousand people are Playin suppression right now... More than every other game mode put together. Losers. They play supression only because, it's gives the most experience, and due to the fact that waiting for the larger game modes especially now are a waste of time. Trying to get into a game is just you sitting in a que hoping to the lords of gaming that you can get into a game, and then if you are lucky to get into a game it's horribly lop-sided. Why would anyone want to suffer that. Domination is just you sitting in a que or a one sided fight (where you are either punching the baby, or the baby being punched.) Personally I was always a huge fan of acquisition, but even then before I officially stopped playing due to the DLC packs it became a waiting game to get in. It's only gotten worse I'm sure. I'm surprised you just do not blame SVER. Seems like what everyone else did.
We blamed SVER cause they had so many map (and SOME OP weapons) advantages over any other PMC. I mean, come on, how on the planet were we (Raven) suppose to protect ourselves from an Air Bombardment in Domination when our freaking buildings DIDN'T HAVE ROOFS? WTF DESIGNED THAT? Not to mention on SVER's Aquisition map, we (Valor and raven) were able to CLEARLY show how SVER had a HUGE advantage over both Raven and Valor. We had maps, screenshots, everything. And their Supression map, they had a CLEAR LOS from their side of the map all the way to the other teams spawn point (from which they could HIDE and snipe). Even Zipper realized it and "tried" to change it, but it didn't help.
With that said though, we complained in beta that we needed more maps. Zipper kept saying there were more maps for the modes we had, but we didn't get any. It's like once it went live, they stopped caring.
That said, it is compared to MAG becasue MAG is the closest thing to the large scale battles in an MMOFPS that we have. And the way it is played is also very similar (not exact, just similar). And having someting to compare it too isn't always bad.

I agree 100% the reason so many of us played so long was for the comradery and all the hilarity that in sued. I can always tell a mag guy on comms because he is usually calling out drop ship locations tanks or even a group rounding a corner. I can't wait till the rest of the clans come over in mass there are some good rivalries, and merges happening.
The reason this game will be so fun is the guy next to you who sees your epic win or fail, and all the sh.. talking that will come after. |

All the comradery was def a big part of it. As has been mentioned, the comms were fantastic.
Hopefully, CCP gets the grouping and comms right. (seems ok so far, just need grouping)
And we def need proximity chat. That was another great part of MAG, hearing the enemy opponent near you rage after you drop him. |

Yeah, damn shame that zipper dropped MAG, once socom4 development ramped up. MAG was the better game. large battles, decent fps mechanics, with just a little sprinkle of rpgish skill point system. If they just focused on a way to make the "shadow war" a perpetual conflict (like dust will be) and added new maps, I'd still be playing to this day.

Mag is one of my favorite games ever made. That game was underrated. It's still better than a lot of games that is out today. Mag is one of the reasons I'm so excited about this game. When I played mag I didn't expect it to be good but a friend suggest I should play it. The game was fun as ####!. I liked the money system, leveling up system, customization, and the amount of players I was playing with and could give orders to. Mag is one of the reasons I'm so excited about this game. Plus I love MMOs. I also have DC universe. Dust 514 can open doors for many more MMOs on consoles. I'm glad ccp chose the ps3. I also like rpgs such as mass effect.
Dust 514 = Mass Effect/ Mag = I'm excited!!!! |
