Here is the problem;
Currently an exclusive dropship pilot can't really die unless they get damage while very low to the ground, they just see the empty bar, bail and call another dropship.
Dropships only really blow up when they hit the ground which if its flying very high gives the pilot and passengers more than enough time to bail safely.
My solution to this is to add another structure hp bar similarly to eve online, so the moment structure damage is taken, the ship fails and falls, but if it takes catastrophic damage and the structure bar is depleted in mid air, it explodes.
This will even the bar a little more as i personally think that a dropship only exploding when it hits the ground not that realistic, especially when it has received another blast from a railgun while falling.

I think that a dropship should definitely explode if it's hit with AV after being reduced to 0 armor. You could make it where the gunners and pilot die instantly, but passengers (since they are not quite as wrapped up in the drop ship) take a certain large amount of damage from the exploding drop ship. |

Vehicles already have hidden structure HP. Hit it hard enough, it explodes. There's no real need for this change, as you can already blow them up, taking the passengers with it, in mid-air. Train up your damage skills, and use more powerful weapons / teamwork. 2-3 brand new characters with militia gear can achieve this. Individuals having difficulty soloing vehicles isn't just not a problem, it's absolutely how it should be. We're powerful, but we're not one-man armies.
That said, I'd be ok with needing to activate dampeners a bit higher up, and turning it into a velocity reduction mechanic, rather than a "no fall damage at all" mechanic. Just like a parachute, if you open it too low, you won't decelerate enough, and you'll still either crater or at least be injured. Making the inertial dampeners work more like this would introduce strategy and tactics, as well as making people bailing out viable targets. As it stands now, they move way too fast to catch reliable with a controller, and would even be extremely challenging to catch with a mouse, and the inertial dampeners are just a graphic effect and animation, rather than actually slowing down your movement. |

It'll be less of an issue once we get grouping and functional comms, then people can properly focus fire and work together. |

i"ve been running a FG since i started. I've taken out literally hundreds of dropships, i've never once had one explode before hitting the ground, even when putting an extra round in them. Honestly, HAV's and LAV's explode as soon as their armor reaches 0 so it makes no sense that dropships don't. If you want to bail you had your chance when you saw the shields and armor dropping, if you wanna gamble on your pilots flying skills then you should suffer the consequences if they aren't up to the task.
I ride in them nearly as much as i blow them out of the sky, and as things stand now i feel absolutely no sense of urgency when the armor starts dropping. I just sit calmly in my seat and wait to see if it's going to start falling. If it does press circle, press X, go about my buisiness. That just feels wrong IMO. When the armor starts getting low i should be thinking seriously about bailing before that thing blows if i don't have confidence in the pilots skills to get us out of a bad situation. |

I'm using proto assault forge, and I'm using enhanced damage mods. Militia ships were going down in 2 shots when I was using a basic forge and militia gear. You really expect me to believe I'm not doing enough damage to a militia ship to blow it in the air in two shots with proto gear? I'm not asking to be a one man army, I'm asking for dropships to act like every other vehicle instead of some weird safe haven where you don't actually die when you run out of hp. I'm pretty sure at this point you have no idea what you're talking about, or you fly a DS and don't want to actually die when we kill you. |

Actually, I mostly use a combination of tanks and sniper rifle, very little use of dropships, since without proper grouping and comms they can't be used particularly well as a gunship or for troop insertions.
That said, I have repeatedly and consistently contributed to blowing up dropships before people can bail out. You're doing it wrong. From the sound of it, you think that just using slightly better gear should magically turn you INTO the one man army that you're not. You're wrong. Work with your team, that's your problem.
Bottom learn, learn to ******* play a team-based game, or go the **** back to CoD where you kids belong.
EDIT: To expand, if you're two-shotting a vehicle with INFANTRY weapons, then that's an argument for MORE defences on vehicles. No one infantry troop should be able to be NEARLY that much of a threat. |

No, you can't. Ground vehicles explode instantly, killing all inside. A dropship doesn't explode unless it's touching absolute ground, and if it's not, it's purely timer-based. If a dropship is parked on a roof of a building, it doesn't count as absolute ground. I can fire a kill shot on a junky militia dropship using my tank's railgun, and then fire 2 more railguns (over 4000 more damage) and THEN some time later it will blow up, not because of the damage. If my passengers are firing missiles at the dropship, guess what, it still blows up only via the timer. |

Wow, i had a whole response written out to this and the stupid draft "saving" system on this forum ate it. The short version is that you don't have any clue what you're talking about. The only time a DS will explode in the air is if it touches an object in a way that would cause collision damage (meaning not with the underside of the ship) after it reaches 0 HP. Other wise it floats slowly to the ground giving all within plenty of time to jump out and go about their business unharmed. That second part is likely why you belive that this magic invisible second hp meter exists when it does not.
LAV's and Tanks both explode killing all inside once they reach 0 HP yet Dropships do not. So please, convince me. Present a reasonable, sensible argument as to why dropships should function completely different from any other vehicle in this regard and allow everyone inside to ride around with near 0 risk of death?
You're little CoD rant only further proves how clueless you are and the fact you're clearly incapable of understanding what myself and others have written. For the record i rather dislike CoD and anxiously await a proper grouping system so my friends and i can play the game together.
In response to your edit i had made an entire breakdown of how many shots and how long it would take for a solo Forge Gunner to take down a Dropship/tank at each gear level so that you might be educated, but it got eaten by the forum. So i'll simply say that the only vehicles that can be 2 shot are FREE militia vehicles, if you think that's unwarranted then you're really even more dense than i thought. As for real vehicles people have skilled for, it takes a minimum of 3 shots at the basic level and up to 10 for Proto level tanks. Dropships range from 3 shots up to 5. You've been educated, you're welcome. |

Maybe have, when the armour hits 0, the eject system has a chance of "Jamming". Which would lead to down dropship pilots desperately hitting O to get out and sometimes getting out alive. |

Especially annoying when they're just sitting atop a tower or building and firing down missiles. They have more than enough time to fire off a few more shots, hop out, and even call in a replacement before the thing blows. And this is no matter how many shots you've put into them with a good (though not proto), almost fully spec'd FG with a Complex Heavy Damage Mod. I can sink two in and have it die, but sinking in twice as many again does nothing. It's all dependent on the timer. |
