This feels like it kicks in too soon and with too big a penalty. If you don't know what this is, I'm referring to the penalty to SP as you play more matches in a day. I've gone from 100k-120k SP per match to 10k-20k in about 10 matches. I'm not recommending that the system be removed, but the amount of matches for it to take effect to be increased and the SP penalty to be reduced. Thoughts/Concerns/Etc.? |

I probably don't play enough to notice, but if this is so to such an extent, even as a casual player I at least ideologically feel that if one plays more, then one should reap the benefits and not be essentially penalized.
But on the other hand that might just discourage excessive and potentially unhealthy lengths of play, which strikes me as a legitimate element. Even more, in terms of realism one can only absorb so much skill in a certain length of time.
I'd need some hard data on the curve of this alleged effect to make a judgment. |

I understand the need for such a system, but if it currently functions on a straight 'number of games played' = less sp I consider that a severe disadvantage to the players.
By that system I should only play games that I know I'm going to win and perform well in, and only bother to play a certain number of times per day. If I have a streak of losses or repeatedly come up against enemies that outclass me and my performance suffers in my first 5 or 6 matches of the day, but then perform wonderfully and win another 10 matches afterwards I'd have already lost the bulk of my SP for the day by not earning well in those first losses and being penalized with lower rewards in the matches I performed well in.
I would prefer instead a daily cap on SP rewards, say 250,000 SP per day before you start seeing a reduction in SP rewards. The reduction could happen slowly after the 250k mark, capping out around 500k SP per day before you're SP rewards are negligible after a match.
The system would need to only affect SP, not isk, otherwise you'd actually be penalized for playing with expensive gear as your day went on and you started to lose money every match. |

CCP are famous for using logarithmic and exponential equations to represent their effects. I doubt its linear. |

The diminishing returns are to discourage pure playing to play to skill up. With the diminishing returns, it encourages people to go out and play the game and do what they want, rather than feeling like they HAVE to play 100 matches a day to keep up with the hardcore crowd. Be lucky you get any way to speed up your SP gain. EVE is pure time, no grind (which I like to an extent). But for new players that are hungry to skill up, the SP bonus for actually participating is a nice touch to off set the feeling of being behind if you join a year later after release.
In the end product, there will be so much more to the game than purely fighting random matches. There will be key battles fought and won, but they won't be as random as a death match. There will need to be planning and saving money and proper timing to impact the universe. And while you are waiting for your corp to get on and do the big battles, you can train up and gain bonus SP doing random matches in high sec space to gain the isk you need to wage the real war against other player corps. |

I'm really against this artificial limit. The last game I played that had a limit like this was FFXIV. I don't mean to make a ridiculous comparison to that, but I don't feel that this does anything more than hinder normal play. |

diminishing returns affects you after your first match and compounds after each following match until you bottom out around 10 matches later. I like the idea of a game time based diminished return. After x amount of in game hours you bottom out and gain the bonus back after the same amount of real hours have passed not playing. This way the dr stays in place, as it should, and you don't have to worry for the server reset to play again. Currently I get hit by dr twice a day. I play at night from 9-12, then the next afternoon from 12-2. During that 12-2 period, I start with the same dr from the night before. |

That doesn't even make sense. Why do you like the DR? All it's doing is limiting your playtime into separate chunks. |

It's not just limiting your playtime, it's limiting everyone's playtime. Which means that if you can only play for 3 hours a day you won't be amazingly outpaced by the people who can play for 10 or more hours a day.
Perhaps that's a bit unfair to the people who can invest more time in the game, but I'd rather see a slow skill progression in the grand scheme of Dust than a mad dash to max skill points. I'd rather it not be possible to have every skill maxed out, ever. Even EVE characters that have been around since the closed Beta 9 years ago don't have ALL the skills in the game, I've always liked that :) |

Do we have confirmation that these are match based & not skill point gain based, or some other combination of the two?
Typically if I'm getting low skill points its because I'm screwing things up. |
