Yes.. You know the thing that was invented in the ancient times and are still widely used to climb structures. Yet Dust 514 has these huge maps with a lot of height variation for us to use for our advantage. But for some very odd reason there seems to be no ladders, stairs or elevators to get on top of these buildings.
It's pretty unpractical to call up a dropship taxi and hope for it to fly over one of these things just so you can back stab a sniper or take a strategic defensive position. Not to mention a bit expensive and waste to buy one of your own, each time you want to go on top of a building.
it might be that in EVE universe these might already be replaced by teleporters, but I am yet to see any of those either. |

I say say jet packs would work. Also in previous build there were stairs because there was indoor combat. |

There are ladders in the game. At least there were in the old build. Clunky, but effective. |

Ladders were a good place to get gunned down in the previous build as you cannot shoot while scaling. Who needs ladders anyway when a dropship can get you to whatever high place you need and the militia dropships have an unlimited supply. |

Sure, who needs them. Really every time we have to go on top of a building we want you to come and pick us: you will be our personal air-taxi. Of course you will throw your money away for something that coudl be done for free with jump-pads or gravity elevators. |

My only problem with ladders was the way you start to climb them. In the last build there was a map with a ladder and it required you to press O to start climbing it.
The problem was you had to be in just the right spot, and not too close to the ladder to start climbing.
I think either get rid of the pressing O requirement and just have us walk into and start climbing, or make the area that you can press O bigger. |

Sounds familiar, my great great great great great great great great clone must have read some ancient texts about your endeavors. The texts where written on these walls of the ruins that once belong to a long lost civilization.

These legendary artifacts still exist? amazing!
but with all the seriousness, the map offers great deal of vertical versatility and it's a shame its not but to a good use. |

Teleports, stairs and gravity elevators would probably be the best choices for current map. 2 of the buildings are rather tall so ascending the ladders would probably be too slow.
Adding some form of interior to the buildings or attached platforms could also work giving the map more strategic options. But this would require a bit more work than say simple stairway on the side of the building. |

Original Quake had mods and custom-made levels with ladders (they were coded in, but I don't remember if they got used in the main game), and Quake 2 definitely included them. Unreal didn't release until Quake 3 was in development. Before Unreal, id Software were talking up their plans for single player and saying that Quake 3 was going to do storytelling in ways never seen before in first-person gaming. But then Unreal came out and within a week they announced that Quake 3 wasn't going to have a single player campaign, and would instead be a botmatch arena to prepare you for multiplayer.
Although, thinking about it, maybe Strife. That was a Doom engine game, and I think it might have had ladders. I'd have to check though, and that might take a while (I don't remember if I still have a copy). |

Due to the new maps still missing these ancient structures or alternatively something that has replaced them I decided to BUMP this up a bit. Currently they are needed more than ever due to dropship pilots being a rare breed these days and possibly on their way to extinction.
There's so much height variation in the maps, that it just seems criminal to force us find the nearest cliff to to get on these structures. |

Maybe it's because of the weight of power dropsuits that ladders have gone out of commission ? |

No more unlimited dropships. Plus they are a bit more difficult to fly. I actually would like to see more ladders on maps because they make us venerable. You want to get onto the roof of that building? Fine, but you might get shot in the back of the head while your doing it. Its a risk reward thing. |

Yeah, but if you can get there and pop a drop-uplink and get a few friends you'll be able to lay down quite potent ambush from the roof. It's way easier to shoot down than it's up and you get some protection off the wall too. Not to mention how uncomfortable it's to shoot targets on the higher ground due the fact that there might still be enemies on the lower ground targeting you.

CCP just posted concept art for a space elevator in their Facebook page.. If ladders are inefficient in this day and age, they could at least give us something less grand than space elevator. It would give the music developer/s a rare chance to try out his skills at making elevator music. |

LOL :) Yeah .. elevator music. But I agree... ladder access to high ground or building would be a nice addition. It just needs an overhaul of the building models. |
