Currently the interface is incredibly clunky and unintuitive. Fitting a vehicle for example, requires you to:
Make a new fitting '-> Go back to the main menu -> Go to the market -> Buy the module -> Go back to the main menu -> Go to the fitting and fit everything -> Find out you're over Powergrid -> Go back to the main menu -> Go back to the market -> Buy new module etc. etc.
This interface works for EVE, because we can have a multitude of boxes open so we can multitask, also it makes sense due to the different regions, solar systems and stations on where and how many items there are in the game.
It doesn't work for DUST because DUST doesn't have many items (comparatively) and we are using a controller on one screen. We can't multitask
What it should be.
Make a new fitting -> On the fitting slot, have a categorised dropdown menu with different modules that can be fitted, showing what effect it will have on the vehicle when highlighted. (Currently owned items would appear on top of drop down menu) -> Selected item can be bought there, or taken to the market directly from there (necessary when the EVE market integration comes in) to purchase. -> Repeat for all modules! |

I've actually been meaning to make a request about this, but forgot.
I was thinking there should be an integrated EFT inspired tool (DFT, I suppose it would be) so that we don't have to buy a bunch of random numbers of modules to see if they fit, or sit down and try to do all the math and factor in skills, etc. Once a fit has been made in the tool, we could select it and stock it like any other fitting.
That would be epic, IMO.
To elaborate: you would go to create new fit, as usual, and one of the options there would be something like "Use Fitting Tool", or something similar. Once you select that, you would get a screen like the dropsuit or vehicle section of the market (depending on what category you chose to create the new fit under) and choose the suit or vehicle. After that, selecting empty slots would again take you to a screen with all the modules you could put in that slot, again sorted like the market is. Once you're done, you just back out, and there's your fitting alongside the other fittings you have. You can then choose to stock that fitting, and you didn't have to spend too much time or ISK figuring the fit out. |

This is pretty much exactly how I imagine a proper fitting system for suits and vehicles in DUST should look like. Just give us a categorised list of all possible items and allow us to auto-buy or go to market and view additional details about the module. The current system of switching through market and fitting screen constantly is horrible. |

I'm a little against having a full fledged EFT style fitting tool in the game. I like the little bit vagueness when it comes to fitting, trying new things, trying to wedge things on when they really shouldn't fit etc.
But this UI redesign should really be a priority |

But this UI redesign should really be a priority You still would be trying to wedge things on. There wouldn't be too much of a difference between your idea and mine, only thing would be that if there's a module on there that you bought, then decide you want to shed it in favor of another so that the module you really want to fit will work, you don't end up wasting the money you had payed for the now-dropped module. In the end, it would just save a little more time and money.
Also, in case I didn't clarify, the actual fitting window on the fitting tool would be identical to Dust's current fitting window, not EFT's. Just a little sidenote.
