I think these modules would be really cool to have. It could be used to overcome blockades and certain stalemates/basecamps.
For balance reasons, I think they should fit in the mid slots and consume a lot of powergrid and cpu, forcing users to fit Reactor controls and Co-Processors to be able to fit a gun and possibly a spawn bacon. Remaining CPU and PG should not be sufficient to fit any other tanking modules, you're paper thin!
Initially I thought it should only fit on scout suits, but upon further thought, I think that they should be affected by mass. You can fit them to assault and heavy suits, but they won't jump you very far, making them only viable on scout suits.
To activate, press R2, select it. Fuel would only last around 30 seconds before needing cooldown.
Jump would be replaced by Jump pack jump to be propelled approx 45 degree angle for around 100m or something. |

It wouldn't be like Halo. I was thinking it be more like Tribes
The jump packs would have very tough fitting constraints, making it only useful in unique situations. Also fitting constraints would restrict users to only be able to fit a light sidearm or something would really hinder their capability
No militia variants, must be bought, would deter many people from just slapping them on everything.
It should be enough to deter people from fitting them on everything

Used as battlefield mobility (as suggested: must be actively equipped, which would restrict ability to fight) then yeah, I think that'd be cool.
As a random, you can just start jetting around whilst blazing madly...no thanks. |

The search button is your best friend, this topic has been requested a minimum of 5 times before.
But regardless, I will say NO to jetpacks, those things are plain CHEAP. Whenever you start firing at someone, they just take-off in the air and rain on you from the top. If there's one thing I'm REALLY hating about PlanetSide 2, its those lame jetpacks... |

People are quick to just dismiss ideas before actually thinking about ways to balance them so they will work.
Jetpacks wouldn't be a problem if they were slow. Speed gives an advantage of invulnerability; if you're fast enough, no one cat hit you. If jetpacks are made slow, people won't be able to run from a battle successfully (because its slow) by flying away, and thus it won't be cheap. I wasn't aware Halo was the only shooter with jetpacks, nor that Halo was the first ever to have it. I don't see anyone whining and saying "deployable spawn points make the game too much like Killzone 2 or Battlefied 3" |

Bad idea. The last thing we need is a map full of players jumping around like idiots trying to kill each other or utilizing jet-packs whom are boosting their KD/R with area of effect weapons like they do in Star Hawk. |

If you can fly and puts around like an idiot then...NO!
It would have to be something like an assisted jump pack that just launches you high enough that the fall would also damage you if you dont land on top of something. This way it has a tactical value without being cheap or forgiving. |

not entirly a bad idea imho. personally i would rather it be like the game space marine, and a raptor. short high energy bursts (5 -10seconds).
be great if it ould only fit to say a scout suit. maybe limit the charges. would give the weak scouts a get away, and a keen shot still get there man. make it require high resources to balane it out. and scouts more flexabilty on the field in terms of positioning |

I'm for both boosted flight, and much more rarely and difficult sustainable flight... I think frankly I want to see a little bit of everything in this game, but the latter should definitely be almost impossible to obtain, and should have severe penalties. |

Jetpacks? No.
Jump Packs like Assault Marines get in Space Marine? ...maybe.
When the pack is off (weapon select wheel to activate/deactivate), you jump normally. When it's active, you launch yourself high into the air with a quick tap of the button. Also, you get the option of an AoE groundslam attack instead of the inertia dampener's controlled landing when you have one equipped. |

I'm ok with this so long as its heavily penalized so not everyone would want one and u can't shoot n fly like previously suggested I mean what skill u would need to control a jet pack/jump pack AND operate a weapon LOL |

Well the penalties would be severe fitting restrictions (Must require both co-processor and reactor to fit on non militia dropsuit)
Not only that but there would be a big Jump Pack on your back, so the hitbox would be larger.
These would not be your front line assault troops, they would be there for niche role |

I apologize for not reading the whole thread, but regardless of the merits, this is simply not the time for such a feature (and this ignores how it might fit into the lore, which should also be an important factor i choices: dust needs to fit eve lore, or offer good explanation for the deviation, like us being able to wake up in a clone without a pod has).
Tribes (the original) is probably one of the greatest team-based, mixed-unit-tactics game made to date, and some mods like Shifter made it even better. I love it, and my skill and experience in tribe are why i picked vanu sovereigty in planetside (and gave me a massive advantage using their max units; players from other games just couldn't cope with my ability to use vertical space against them). I'd love to see it in dust (i think only as a specialized dropsuit, not a module).
But at the end of the day, at this stage of development, with the larger isxues on the table, we shouldn't worry about this yet. This is something to discuss and potentially implement much later. Particularly, once we're into the third or fourth expansion (fanfest already listed solid plans that would already completely fill a first and even second expansion).
I would love to see jet packs, but now is just not the time to worry about it. We need to focus on core balance, mechanics, behaviour, etc. The rest _needs_ to come later, and to do otherwise would be to the detriment of the game in both the short and long terms. |

i think if they put this in you have chance on hit for fuel to explode, thus heavily negating the effects of having tank on your gear but i could see this being good for scout class sniper so you can get around quickly |

Only if the AoE attack damages your armor. Otherwise it would be heavily abused.
Just imagine people jumping around trying to kill eachother with their death from above attacks. |

then whats the point of vehicles for transportation? Jetpacks were implemented in another beta i played and majority of players just hated it cause EVERYONE was using it and ground combat became null when you'd always lose to someone in a jetpack if you were using one your self. |

I don't think you're seeing the bigger picture here. In a vehicle, you have your entire loadout still available to you. Assault rifle, grenades as well as having some tanking modules.
With a Jetpack, you have none of that, you will have a sidearm, and if lucky, a support device like a nanohive or beacon.
Please stop comparing it to "other games" They have different mechanics and focus on different things. They don't have fitting limitations based on how much "fitting points". |

it could work if they were made more like jump packs in Space Marine/WH40K, i.e. assisted jumps to clear obstacles/gain high(ish) ground rather than true flight.
for example maybe enough of a boost to get you from the bottom to the top of the hill with the large blaster by B? that would only need like a second or two 'boost'. then put in a 3-4 second cool down like the forge guns. might make it more tactical than just idiots spamming jetpacks (which i agree wuold be annoying).
everything has the potential for abuse in this game, just about! |

Personally I wouldn't even give infantry jump packs or jet packs or whatever. Personally I think they should belong to the MTACs that eventually will come out as a simple jump mechanic. It's almost standard in every game about mechs or mechas or whatever that they can jump at the very least. And let's face it, without them they wouldn't be able to jump. Heck maybe then can make it a mobility module similar to what afterburners are for dropships when they come out.
PS - I agree with the post above me. |

^^^ Hey, do things right is the only way to do things in any game...that's implied pal.
Killzone 3 jetpack is done right, and it 's amazing; I can kill jetpackers in no time in Killzone 3: the TTK is perfect. Also PlanetSide 2 jetpacks seems amazing. Tribes have superb jetpacks for that gameplay. |
