Your first few games per day have bonus SP, then it goes down from there every few games or so it seems. If you keep playing and playing before the "new day" triggers (which seems to be at 00:00 GMT now), you'll have a lower and lower max SP you're able to earn. It's to prevent someone from grinding to 90 million SP their first day, and keep it more fair than it could be for the people who have limited time to play each day.

Maybe it seems so drastic because we're running at 4x SP right now, so a percentage drop is a much larger drop.
