Also apparently some EVE player on forum said that the impression he got from a dev was that no alpha would be available until FF 2019, however this doesn't sound accurate to me, could you shed some light onto whether or not this is accurate?

I believe right now CCP Rattati and the peeps are doing the pubcrawl, so I wouldn't expect to see anything for a couple more hours, when it will be early morning in Reykjavik.

Ah! That's a very interesting solution.
One of the biggest missed gameplay opportunities in Dust was the near-pointlessness of melee for most fits.
(Jadek's wonderfully OP myofib fits being the sole exception.  )
Ever since Halo introduced its "Holy Trinity" of Gun - Grenade - Melee, its been a staple of FPS games. I'm not saying we need to take other FPS designs as sacrosanct, but if we are going to include a melee option, it damn well better be worth using.
A dedicated melee slot both makes melee useful again, and also opens up fitting options for different playstyles.
The role of melee is that you and the enemy have maneuvered into CQC, so what do you want your response to be?
To offer some off-the-cuff examples:
- A classic assault player may fit "Nova Knives" to deal massive quick damage to finish the opponent off.
- A ranged player might fit "Concussive Momentum Discharge" to hit the enemy with a huge knockback, pushing them back to a more optimal range.
- A more mobile player may fit "CQ EMP Bomb" to temporarily disable both players weaponry, so they can escape the encounter and reengage from a more opportune position.
Some silly examples, and we don't need to go this route. Really anything that makes melee useful is a success in my book.
If the solution also allows for more varied gameplay and more interesting fitting options, well that's gravy. ;)
