If people around the world want to fight together, then provide custom servers dedicated for PC or such. Lock the region for everyone otherwise. The reason the server regions existed in the first place was because of lag. Tying you to the nearest server would ostensibly minimise that lag. The problem with that is that it isolates player groups. It's not a true single shard universe. The good thing about EvE, lag notwithstanding, is that it is single shard and the idea of having everyone in Nova able to go anywhere in New Eden and fight anyone and everyone who is there requires single shard. If we assume that people will still be able to select the battle server they are on, then we would be better off piggybacking off the existing EvE server farm. I'm pretty sure our small numbers won't make much of a difference to the response times of those huge servers. I'm not saying that they should delete server regions. They should only LOCK players to their server region. Not allowing them to switch.
No matter how good the servers are, if they still balance lag according to the avg latency between players, this is gonna be another lagfest. It will isolate player groups of course, but it was already the case anyway. I've never ever player with most american players even after 2000 hours IG in 3 years (I'm in Europe). That didn't make the experience less fun. So that'll only benefit to the game if CCP do so.

If you lock the region server, the poor AU and NZ that finish work at 1am will be back to half hour+ queue times and boring 2v2's. We don't have a huge population like US and EU
I went outside today... The graphics were good, but the gameplay was shit.

Having server regions at all, isolates players from one region from players from another. In a fully open single shard universe like New Eden, to be able to play everyone everywhere, you need to NOT isolate players by region. Yes, that was always the case, but if they want to make this more EvE-like they need to eliminate server regions altogether. |

We don't have a huge population like US and EU This is another reason there should be no server regions, locked or not. Big enough servers will handle the player load. Then the only problem is network lag, which is something we in Australia had all the time no matter what server we were connected to. Everyone was complaining about lag because of people with slow connections, but by definition, mine was always slow, as would have been anyone connected to any server half a world away.
Once it's accepted that there WILL be network lag, mitigation of that network lag can be worked on, moving as much as possible of the processing to the server (as in EvE) instead of leaving it on the client (PS3 for Dust, PC for Nova). Isolating players to regional servers doesn't fix the problem without creating others smaller than optimal player numbers on each server being an example.
Single shard doesn't mean single server - each solar system in EvE is hosted potentially on its own server, although I believe most servers host multiple solar systems. The battles occur wholly within a given solar system, so hosting battles on the appropriate server for that solar system would still work. It would appear single sharded for everyone involved. Hosting each solar system on a unique server, cohosted with EvE in that solar system would allow for real-time links between the games within the solar system. They apparently aren't looking to have these links, unfortunately, but this would allow them. |

Na everyone will go on one server probably I can't see the need for everyone to be on the one server, unless all battles only happen within one solar system. If they happen within multiple solar systems and New Eden regions, they can be hosted on the appropriate EvE servers for those solar systems. |

All I said was assuming the kept the server region system. What they'd do if they use something wasn't my topic at all ^^
For australian people, that's the same for all games. They usually restrain access by locking the ping to a certain amount so that it doesn't harm the other players experience too much.
