Am I misreading this? Nope he definetely played on the surface of it. I was also confuzzled as to what this meant, but now I clearly see he means ON THE SURFACE of the Maelstrom.
And apparently with an active skybox as well, now we could read into that as perhaps there was a space battle going on while he was fighting on the surface of the ship, or maybe there was an active sun etc etc

Surface of a Maelstrom(drools): check. Does the airlock open? That would be the reincarnation of Skirmish 1, wide open hull battle followed by cqc interior.
Active skybox(dies and is reborn a little): check. Ships? Stars? Asteroids?
Things: wtf are 'things', Dennie? 'Things' are not Rattati, or Frame, or devs in general. Things are on the surface of a Maelstrom and trying to board it, trying to defend it? 'Things' sounds drone-like, no?

Without going to specifics, a lot of the feedback from the Demo last year has informed design choices since and caused re-evaluation of things in that demo.
It's not almost finished. Not by a long way. But it's apparent very quickly once playing it and chatting to the team and some of the new team members that have joined CCP what direction it's taking.
I am happy with that direction and the energy in the new team.

Will it actually NEED a monster PC to play it, or will we have real options (like EvE does) to allow us to dial down the graphics so we don't have hardware based lag? There will always be network lag - that's a given with any online FPS and that is affected by the speed of your connection and distance to the servers. But if we can optimise for response, why would we need a monster PC? |

I believe that's not going to happen anyway. Even when there is not the mythical "console that makes PC games worse" (theory that, if you ask me, has no real reasoning behind it) developers still have to face a "sad" truth. It's obvious: not everyone has a shiny new 1080 or a 1070 nor they plan to upgrade in the medium term and for sure not because of a single free to play game set in Eve universe. If a developer wants to attract as many people as they can get, they have to think about less performing machines, even more so considering a free to play title where the magnitude of players really make or break a game. So, well, it's not impossible at all that Nova will have a very wide range of graphics settings from basically ****** to Ultra.
More than the technical side, I'm very concerned about cheating. I already know I'll miss Dust for that.

Cheating is inevitable. Even Blizzard has a near-impossible time combating cheaters especially those who happen to be in South Korea where the market for competitive games promote massive amounts of cheating at practically shameful levels.

I looked up pictures of the Maelstrom to have some idea of what it looks like. It reminds a lot of sea-faring pirate ships and is basically flat. I can imagine having a lot of enjoyable moments on it.

If the server allocation still works the same way it did on Dust, I hope that CCP will disable the ability to switch regions/servers. This was the #1 reason of lags.
If people around the world want to fight together, then provide custom servers dedicated for PC or such. Lock the region for everyone otherwise.

If people around the world want to fight together, then provide custom servers dedicated for PC or such. Lock the region for everyone otherwise. The reason the server regions existed in the first place was because of lag. Tying you to the nearest server would ostensibly minimise that lag. The problem with that is that it isolates player groups. It's not a true single shard universe. The good thing about EvE, lag notwithstanding, is that it is single shard and the idea of having everyone in Nova able to go anywhere in New Eden and fight anyone and everyone who is there requires single shard. If we assume that people will still be able to select the battle server they are on, then we would be better off piggybacking off the existing EvE server farm. I'm pretty sure our small numbers won't make much of a difference to the response times of those huge servers. |

That entirely depended on your connection and your machine. I had a nice connection, and a system that could outpurr a cat.
Take care of your systems, and they'll take care of you.
Also.... 1400 mm cannons are just 1.4 Meter cannons (you can half stand up inside one of these apparently but then again due to dust scales, they'd be less than half a merc tall). Why the MM measurement when the metric used is out of scale?
And.. how is it going to be "more like eve"? Does that mean people will have to carry bank account chunks with them in order to buy or sell gear? Are you going to be able to carry ore and other loot/resources on the character? Traversing to deposit them someplace? I mean it feels like it could be kind of awkward, as the suits are designed to drop fairly quickly.
