What's up boys & gals. Long time no see.
I finally got myself a PS4. Bought COD Infinite and Modern Warfare hoping it would fill up the empty void that Dust left after they shut the servers down. This worked for like 2 hours. After that I could do no more and started thinking about Dust again. Nothing to play on my new shiny PS Pro.
Dust 514 is by far the best FPS shooter ever made. I will never understand why it was launched on PS3 when everyone was switching over to PS4. This was doomed from day one. Launch an amazing game that was some years ahead of its time on an outdated platform. Amazing nonsense from CCP.
I truly believe that Dust would be a huge success on PS4. All those big name shooters out there are crap. Empty. Nothing worth playing. Dust 514 is in a league of it's own. The most important thing our game needed was a platform where we could build our player database but this was never possible.
I truly hope someone at CCP will start to reconsider re-launching Dust 514. There's a huge gap in the market for a quality FPS on PS4 and XBox. Learning from past mistakes and using all the groundwork made for Dust can surely mean something. Just DoIt CCP.

Hawken is a pretty good F2P title on PS4 where it takes skill to kill your opponent. I unlocked almost the entire mech tree although I don't really play it any more.
I also heard World of Tanks is also a good F2P title but have not tried it myself.
If you looking for triple A FPS titles to fill the DUST void, I am sorry to say it likely won't happen unless maybe you have prior DUST players to play with. Having past DUST players to play with is what kept me on Battlefield 1 as long as I was. When the players I was playing with hopped to another game though, I pictured myself spending at least $60 a month on new games and decided against it. I come to find that after going through several titles the group I was running with is back on World of Tanks currently.

I have tried since Dust shutdown to fill the VOID of finding an engaging FPS (ALL GARBAGE) i got into Paragon for awhile and Destiny got very dull and I dont want the sequel. Despite the complaints about Dust ... i have never played a game for years (beta vet) and still could not wait for the next chance to log on. I new countless Dust players that payed way more than $60 bucks on the game and would have continued to spend more. So what if sony wanted CCP to fork up 2 mill for better security, if they did so and transferred there investment to PS4 they would have made that back in no time at all easily. Not many games retain there player base for years on end, even when they leave to play something else they ALWAYS came back to Dust for there daily grind. Someday another company will make a similar game and they will tap into starving market. CCP should heed this truth and not put all there efforts into VR and keep any version of DUST ACTIVE while they develop its successor ... they will be richly reward by humbled and loyal fanbase. |

I wish it would happen for console players, but I think the best bet is to get away from platforms and stick with the PC...

For those on PS4, a F2P game called Let It Die has kept me pretty busy. It is weird as there is no direct player interaction as you merely deal with other player's character builds ran as AI throughout the game. Still, the raiding, hunting, team battling, and crafting is fun along with trying to scale the ever changing Tower of Barbs. You can also steal and ransom other players' characters but I am not much into that. The game is pretty difficult though and is admittedly a bit glitchy but it is also addictive.
What first hooked me for Let It Die is it felt like I was playing a quirky anime plus I've always loved brawlers but there is some shooting as well. I only have 5 floors left but am currently set toward upgrading my gear before progressing any further. I think I should have the game beat in another couple weeks at most. Then, it'll be time to move onto another game if I don't want to stay around to hunt or battle other players.

Yep. I tried Ps2 on PC before it was available on the PS4 and thought it was a clusterf*ck.
An online friend of mine tried it on the PS4 a little while back and said the exact same thing.

I'm having great fun with Mass Effect: Andromeda! I love the role-playing/storyline feel of the whole Mass Effect concept and games and Andromeda is continuing it well. I'm also finding that after playing Dust for as long as I did, many hours every day for most of a year since I came back, I'm much better at using weapons than I ever was in the past.
I'm a completionist with games of this sort so I'm spending many hours following up side missions, conversations, character interactions and the like. Much fun. |

I moved to backing Chronicles of Elyria which you can boil down to being a fantasy MMO with an Eve-like vibe to it.
As I'm backed as a magistrate (probably the most money I've thrown into a game) and pledged to a kingdom and grand duchy, I'm already too invested in it to play Nova to any serious degree, despite not even being alpha yet.

I've been hopping through games lately looking to find something of interest.
I tried Paragon but it appears to be in perpetual beta as "beta" is still on some screens. Really weird since I've seen the game for sale at Wal-Mart and other stores. The game does have a ton of interesting characters but I quickly got tired of playing the exact same map over and over.
I tried SkyForge as it is newer but it is ridiculously simple. I've only died once over the entire time I played and that was due to accidentally not making a jump. And when I did die, there appeared to be no adverse affects. SkyForge appears to be made in the same bland manner as Neverwinter.
In short, I am still looking for my next game. I know WoT and Overwatch are supposed to be good but I hoping to get on something at release. That is why I was kind of looking forward to Elite Dangerous on PS4.

Im a closed beta vet. Hard core rail tanker for 2.5 years and i tried my hardest to keep tanks as a force to be reckoned with on these forums for a year. Im also the guy that Vader's Fist had a vendetta against during the last days of dust.

I agree that I would like to see Nova, or whatever it becomes, out for consoles in the future, but Nova is much more complicated than Valkerie, and CCP really needs to get it right this time, before anything else. Developing for both at this point would just be a distraction that would dilute the quality of the product.
Let's give them a little time to get the game out, get it right, and build an audience before we start clamoring for a port.

By the time that happens theyl have an eve only audience still that wpuld demand that it never be ported to console because #pcmasterrace

for those of you who dont me im of the original squad leaders form suiced squad ya thats right im one of those ass holes that who would run up on your tank and throw av grenades or c4s on it while your where tying to hit us or be one of those 2 people defending a point from 10 to 12 people and be like oh we got this or call in a lav on top of a building and drive straight off of it to destroy a air ship that was spawning clones .i loved the game and i prided myself of being one of the best field meds out there running out in my logi gllente suite with my sl rail rifel or my amar logi with my cw4 scrable rifle and be the main one going toe to toe with heavy's with burst caliber guns trying to [pick my squad up on in PC.
Im sure ccp is sick of hearing this but i agree with almost very one on this forum dust 514 needs to come back or something similar to it, And i know many feel the same when i say dust truely was and still is the future of FPS. the game is not like any thing thats out right now and it will probably stay that way for the next 10 years if we are lucky and dont any one give me that crap that ohh theses plaint side 2 or oh theses eve Valkyrie because ive played both and while many say plaint side is close to it , its not plaint side 2 could never measure up to it on thing i will say the plaint side 2 has over the dust is the constant warfare and how you dont have to look for a match you just spawn and start crossing the continent taking nodes for your faction and to be honest with you if dust adds that feature im positive they could do it so much better. and as for Valkyrie thats for our pilots is the only way i can describe it . the game moves so fast and the aiming system is so hard to learn that if you haven't been flying since eve for pc you almost stand no chance but dosent mean i didnt have fun trying though. but back to the point at hand if dust were to be released id bet money that it would trample and other FPS out there in sales. |

No new Nova info. Hence, bumping this long dead thread.
Right now I am playing Tekken 7. As I skipped T6 and TT2, I am having some fun while wondering why some characters were removed while also wondering where some new characters came from.
Also, still playing EVE. I hop on daily but am really only available for full play for most part on weekends. Speaking of, I think it would be cool to see some youtube vids from some DUST mercs that went EVE side.
I also have Elite Dangerous prepaid so should be playing that in a couple weeks. I am getting that for PS4 friends more than anything.

As far as I can tell the Consoles are becoming more and more like PC's from a hardware and software perspective. By the time the PS5 rolls out it will just be a PC with less buttons. Conversion of PC games to run on consoles should become easier.
However, I did not think the PS3 had enough buttons for DUST. I would rather hit one button to do something than have to go two menus deep in the middle of a fire fight to do something. So, unless the PS4 or PS5 has more buttons than the PS3 has, I would rather have Nova on PC.
Hand/Eye coordination cannot be taught. For everything else there is the Learning Coalition.

Sir Petersen, I would be interested to hear your opinion on what made DUST better than COD and other FPS games?
Hand/Eye coordination cannot be taught. For everything else there is the Learning Coalition.

I liked the fact that you had to go through menus mid combat. You had to be a little thoughtful with your choices.

It was amazing! Basically locking the ADS to drift in one direction till you got the mod on... that extra level of depth made it all that more fun... I mainly just flew derpships and that won't exist on NOVA... so I should just shush xD

Yes, they are better competing with PCs, but to what end?
First, they are risking dividing their player base. They are trying to avoid it by requiring any games to operate on the original models, but that isn't quite doing it. On the Xbox X, which is significantly more powerful than the Xbox One, Destiny 2 is locked in at 30fps. So for 500 extra dollars, you get it in 4k vs 1080p, which isn't noticeably different.
Even if that weren't a problem, if you want it, you have to shell out significant amounts of cash. That undermines the segment of the console market that prefers consoles because they are more affordable. If it gets to the point that PC gaming is not more expensive, then consoles erode their niche.
The only thing left is that consoles are more standardized. But even that is beginning to change. While there are some places that will build a PC for you, Dell is coming out with an Insperon gaming line for a more casual gaming audience than their Alienware line. If the Insperon line is fairly easy to upgrade, suddenly it reduces the gap of ease between consoles and PCs.
TL; DR. Consoles are making bad choices and making PC gaming more of a viable option for an increasing number of gamers, and shooting themselves in the foot in the process.

Like with anything, it is a bubble that will sooner or later pop. In the meantime, as long as we are a capitalist society full of consumers easily enough distracted by shiny new things. people will continue to pay, on credit, for entertainment that they were raised to believe they need.
As I get older, I'm finding that I'm less surprised by how gullible the masses are, and how entrenched we all become in what we believe to be right or wrong; regardless of whether it's actually right or wrong.

Out of boredom (as I got burned out on Tekken repeatedly trying to beat the BS Akira story boss fight), I hopped back on Battlefield 1. Even though I had to play with randoms, I still had some fun and even came out on top of the winning team one match by 3000+ points to the next closest player playing as a Medic in hardcore Conquest. 
Of course, playing Medic in other shooters is way easier than playing Logi was in DUST.

Just about everything. The EVE world is amazing. DUST was a shooter for the advanced gamer. Manus Peak :) The maps. The community. The overall gameplay and experience. I can go on and on.
I said it then and I'll say it now. DUST514 is the best ever made.

I would say we are on the same page as to what made DUST great.
The problem DUST had, well one of the problems, was that all this great stuff was layered over rather clunky FPS mechanics. Those triple A FPS games might have nothing on DUST when it comes to content, but their FPS mechanics are smooth. A lot of people that where used to those other games found DUST to feel clunky and did not stick around long enough to realize all the great stuff DUST had going for it.
That is why I am optimistic about NOVA. People who played the NOVA demo last year at Fan Fest reported that the FPS mechanics were as smooth as any tipple A FPS game. Now they did say it felt generic at that time, but we also know that CCP has spent the past year adding the EVE Universe flavor. Their approach this time around was to build real solid FPS mechanics to begin with, so that then they would have a strong foundation to build the rest of the game on top of. I feel this was the right approach.
NOVA will not be exactly like DUST, but it will retain most of the things we felt were DUST's strengths. Only when NOVA is released they want it to feel finished, unlike DUST on release which just felt like an extended Beta Test, and with the game feeling finished they can advertise it, get a larger player base, start making money, and be able to afford to put a lot more development into things like adding Planetary Conquest, cross game EVE integration, and Vehicles in future expansions.
Hand/Eye coordination cannot be taught. For everything else there is the Learning Coalition.

I have for quite some time believed that someone in CCP was DETERMINED to shut Dust down for some reason. It may have been as simple as that it didn't fit the direction they wanted, that being clearly VR, and perhaps they wanted to eliminate competition for their other VR titles or something. Whatever the reason it was extremely ill-advised and short-sighted. They could bring Dust back on PS4 and instantly have a player base again, but sadly I believe this will not happen, not because it can't, but because they simply don't want to. |

Nope.
Maybe if they weren't working on the spiritual successor, but even then too much of Dust was rooted in EVE to expect that CCP could sell it and not have the game result in infringing upon their intellectual property.
But, hypothetically speaking, if that weren't a problem, where would you get the money? Who would you have run the servers?

The problem with CCP is that they say a lot of things and never deliver. A "development binge" sounds positive, but it's still talk until we see something concrete. I will be very happy to eat my words should Nova ever release, but until that day I remain very sceptical... |

Lol Dust was in a development bridge forever  Released in Beta, stayed beta.
Not saying it wasn't a good game though. I did very much enjoy it and do miss it.
If they do it right, hopefully it will be FTP during Alpha and Beta, then taken down like a normal game should be, fixed and then release a good full game.
