I mean, I'm Italian and have the vatican city almost next door and still even here we are thought in every school that evolution is the answer and it's common knowledge that homosexuality is not an illness. How can anybody think evolution is a farce? Or homosexuality an illness? Even more so, how can a President or a vice president of one of world's leading country think that? How can the USA vice president think that?
I thought America was the world most progressive country. And us europeans were like the conservatory side of the world... I must have been very mistaken all the time, then. Even the pope is much more progressive than that, like infinitely more progressive. Yes, the pope.
Anyway, it's your business, just please try convince him at least that global warming is a thing - I'd love to visit the Netherlands and would love to keep Venice above the sea level. The America you thought you knew stops 100 to 500 miles from the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. In large parts of inland America Ignorance is seen as a virtue. Homer Simon is seen as a role model. And Education is viewed with suspicion. I recall a Senator being criticized for being able to speak more than one language. It was dam near a scandal.
I pretty much share your opinion here, since I have been able to know something about New York and Boston (have family living there). Still, that is also divisive and won't do any good. That's actually 50% of the population which, yes, might not be well educated but is still able of ratiocinium. Which implies that they're doing (in this case, voting for) what's best for them based on the informations they got.
Now, I hope people will follow me on this reasoning, this is a crucial point.
- Classic mass media was overwhelmingly in favour of Clinton, not strictly because of Clinton herself, but because of the alternative.
- New media, as far as I've seen (like the entire internet) was overwhelmingly in favour of Trump.
- The new trend is that classic media are "controlled" by the government, so, should not be trusted. This, again, thanks to the internet.
- Less educated people might have simply decided that the internet holds the answer and that mass media are compromised because some dude on the internet with thousands of followers/views/likes etc told them while the very unpopular ones told them that voting Trump was a bad thing
- Profit! Whoever get the most out of the internet wins.
This has been true with
1) Brexit ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTMxfAkxfQ0,https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcwuBo4PvE0,https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbZ9EIOQzXU,https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33BDDAUV8vg)
2) Trump ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPUjOJ6YPYY,https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyaFsPKjZdo,https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gw8c2Cq-vpg,https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9118K9ejqU)
Well you got the point, I could go on with FN in France, M5S in Italy etc.
So, people, please. Use Internet responsably. I never thought I would have said that in my entire life.

It was funny yesterday, watching the reports on the Canadian news about protest in the US, and then 3 hours later a reporter from CNN is sent to Trump Tower to do an onsite report and low and behold there is a protest going on that CNN apparently does not know anything about. It got more hilarious when they continue to try to do their scripted interview with the reporter about what Trump likely did that day, the whole time with the on site reporter struggling not to be distracted by all the Protesters yelling all around him.
CNN did start covering the protests an hour later, but it was funny how hard they worked to stick to the script.
I don't think the US news is controlled by the Government, but the people responsible for it care more about creating an entertainment show than covering news.
Another example is on Election night, CNN never covered the guy shooting people at a poling station in California. Now, me, I would think that voters standing in line getting shot at would be election news, but it was not part of their script so CNN did not cover it.
When I lived in the US in the late 90's I felt like I had to watch a foreign station to get any actual news. American news is mostly just opinion and commentary with only the occasional fact thrown in.

I know places like Estonia, Latvia, and basically any country formerly part of the Soviet Union is anxious because of how chummy Putin and Trump are. There is already talk that Trump might just leave them high and dry, which would leave those countries open to what you see in the Ukraine/Crimea.
Then there is talks of trade wars with China, which can't end well for us.
Basically, for the next 2 years at least, before there are any more elections for Congress, I don't see the U.S. playing well with others. That can have consequences that stretch out for decades.
It is difficult to build something up and maintain it, and easy and quick to destroy things. Hopefully Trump doesn't screw up too bad, and that the anti-Trump Republicans man/woman up and don't let him just do whatever he wants.
Certainly not looking forward to the next 2-4 years.

So it's clear that based on your source you make an opinion. If your only source told you that "the system" is controlled by "the enstablishment", therefor you should not trust "the media", that the "experts" always conspire against population and you should never trust their analysis and all the other dumb things you may find everywhere, who would you vote for? If my source of information kept telling me that Clinton is Satan and they have "proof" I might not think she really is Satan, but I would think it would be better to vote for "anyone but her".
Don't get me wrong tho, it's not a US problem alone. Every country has its own share of sh*t.
Some years ago the mighty italian "Lega Nord" made the EU Parliament discuss on "Aliens spying on us because they fear our nuclear capabilities". The other geniuses of "Movimento 5 Stelle" made a parliamentary interrogation on "chem trails and how to stop them" while UKIP MEPs asked for clarifications on the "Kalergi plan that Eurocrats don't want us to know. The plan to destroy the european race and create a new race by letting in all the muslims" basically.
All I can say is that the only sources I could find backing the statements above are Youtube videos about conspiracy theories and fictional literature. But it's not their fault. There must be a reason why they believe it was true and I suspect it's due to complete misinformation and/or misinterpretation. Or at least I hope so.

Mostly true, but not entirely.
There is one opening in the SC currently, the one left by Scalia's death.
Two others, Ginsburg and Breyer, both left leaners, are old and may conceivably pass within 4 years. I doubt they would retire knowing the circumstances, but medical conditions could change that.
Lastly, and I don't think this will matter, but you never know, Congress has the right to add or subtract the number of total SC Justices. The number has bounced around from 6 to 10and several places in between. It will likely stay 9, but could theoretically be increased or decreased.

These elections were like the last elections in italy, clinton was like PD, they could only lose due to their own mistakes and so it happened. That was partly it. It was also in part due to the FBI breaking tradition and releasing information within 90 days of the election. Of course, none of it was any worse than what Trump had said and done, but the damage was already there.
The biggest problem were the Primaries themselves.
The Republicans had too many people, starting out with 16. Instead of having a few good challengers, all the legit candidates siphoned votes from one another, so that even though Trump didn't have a majority, he had the most votes.
The Democrats were the opposite. They had too few. Bernie was the only non Clinton option, despite the fact people like Elizabeth Warren, Joe Biden, and others could have at least made it interesting. It seemed like the Democrats had everyone take a back seat because it was Hilary's turn, regardless of whether or not she was the best candidate, and they lost.
Both the RNC and the DNC need to get their **** together.

Well, yes. Not that I liked Berlusconi's policies that much, but at least he tried to "hide" his nature. And I do agree on PD, even tho from my perspective it's a bit more complicated.
*The following is about italian politics: you might very well be totally uninterested, but I'll still type in english because...you never know perhaps tomorrow someone will suddenly be interested*
I've already said elsewhere I'm pretty much a right-winger. Hold on, I know what you're thinking and no. Salvini and Meloni are a shame to me.
From my perspective people like me don't really know who should they vote because no one share their own opinions in our politics right now. Our right wing now is just a mess of anti-eu populistic M5S fac-simile with little to no insight on pretty much anything. All they do is blaming the immigrants (and actually forgetting our very recent past and even pretending not to see all the trains and airplanes and even buses that transports load of italians all over Europe, especially Germany and UK) and the current goverment and the Euro and European Union. Isn't it that it's simply their own fault? Our own fault. 20 years of Berlusconi made the huge public debt we have now and 40 years of corruption made us slide from 3rd to 6th-7th in terms of GDP. The world financial crisis gave the last hit and now we're ready to blame anything, but "ourselves".
Now, would I really vote for any of them? Of course not. So let's see, I could vote for M5S! That huge mass of tinfoil hattery/conspiracy theorist that believes that the solution to all the problems is just printing more money! Little did they know that printing more money to pay national debt has been proven disastrous each time a country did such an careless monetary policy. Just to name one of their absurd policies.
Then, PD. It would be perfect, but... they really don't want me to vote for them. I believe they are actually doing everything it takes to lose. And by the way this would always be the very last resort to a right-wing man like me.
So, while I might not vote at all for the next elections (for the first time), other "moderates" might join the xenofobes or the tinfoil hattery. And of course, a conspiracy theorist is "a bit" more attractive than a xenofobe.
Jesus Christ.
If you honestly believe this, you're as ignorant and stupid as the people you criticize.
Large parts my ass. I actually live in Middle America. I've traveled all up on and down here going back to visit Family in Houston, and had the chance to visit cities on the East and West Coast as well. Fuck, I've been to other countries to boot.
Guess what? Not much changes. Actually pay attention and talk to people rather than take everything at face value. People don't change that much. Yeah, some cities and people lean more one way or the other. Product of their environment. Cultures change, and can effect people. But people themselves don't change that much. Condemning education? Ignorance as a virtue? You'll find people like that ANYWHERE you go, even the coastal population centers.
To actually believe that large parts of America are like the stereotypical crap you see on the TV is absolutely ridiculous. It makes you look like someone who hasn't left the safety of his home town and relies off the stories he hears from whatever partisan drivel he listens to.
And before anyone starts calling me some dirty Trump loving Republican because I lived in Texas and the Midwest; you're wrong. I also think Hillary was as bad of a choice and that BOTH parties have little to no redeeming values to them.
Partisanship and an Authoritarian government are what is slowly killing this country, and I freaking hate it.

Better yet, the American Public needs to realize that other options exist.
Third parties need a chance to attend the Presidential Debates, and people as a whole need to dispel the entire "My vote is wasted if I go third party"
The vote is only wasted because everyone freaking thinks that way. Even then, I'd argue that a vote that matters to you isn't a wasted vote at all. To be honest, your vote really doesn't matter at all if you think about it, you're one vote in over 135 million.
So vote for what you believe in. To hell with anyone who says otherwise. I didn't vote for Trump or Hillary. I've gotten flak over it for saying that I helped Trump win by doing so. My vote matters and doesn't matter at the same time. I became Schrodingers vote this election year, its freaking crazy.

But then again, I would prefer to still have two candidates from the major parties that were moderates such that I could legitimately consider both.
Unfortunately, even the third party candidates were rather poor choices last year. I was watching PBS specials talking about Ross Perot and Ralph Nader wishing that either one were in the election.
Also, we need a Congress that will work together and not merely against each other, which needs the buy in from all parties. But that won't happen until we at least get gerrymandering and corporate cash out of the elections.

i dont really care for politics any more...
in the end they all have some sort of ulterior motive.
always lying and talking out there ass to look nice infront of a camera.
id much rather take the blunt aproach and get straight to the point and say where i stand on the current information at hand.
other than that i cant really be bothered at this point.
if there is a problem that needs solving then it needs to be worked through in such a way that most (if not all) people will benifit.
although i think the governements should prioritize the welfare if its citizens over everything else but thats just a naive ideal for me.
great potential is always there..
it just has yet to be realized
