I mean, I'm Italian and have the vatican city almost next door and still even here we are thought in every school that evolution is the answer and it's common knowledge that homosexuality is not an illness. How can anybody think evolution is a farce? Or homosexuality an illness? Even more so, how can a President or a vice president of one of world's leading country think that? How can the USA vice president think that?
I thought America was the world most progressive country. And us europeans were like the conservatory side of the world... I must have been very mistaken all the time, then. Even the pope is much more progressive than that, like infinitely more progressive. Yes, the pope.
Anyway, it's your business, just please try convince him at least that global warming is a thing - I'd love to visit the Netherlands and would love to keep Venice above the sea level. The America you thought you knew stops 100 to 500 miles from the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. In large parts of inland America Ignorance is seen as a virtue. Homer Simon is seen as a role model. And Education is viewed with suspicion. I recall a Senator being criticized for being able to speak more than one language. It was dam near a scandal.

Viktor Hadah Jr wrote:And as almost all other elections, pretty much nothing will change... I am not so sure about that. Oboma could not cause change because he did not control the House and the Senate.
The Republicans control the House, the Senate, and will control the Supreme Court as soon as Trump nominates a Judge for the position.
Now, that assumes that the Republicans support what Trump wants to do, but we saw in the election that many Republicans would support the Devil himself if they thought it would help them get elected. So, just the fact that Trump won the Election means that the Republicans will rubber stamp all but his most liberal decisions.
Now, the good news is that Trump has no ideology other than doing what will benefit him personally, so he will feel no obligation to do any of the stuff he promised.
The bad news is that cancelling Obomacare and all the Free Trade deals will making him look powerful, and looking powerful benefits Trump personally.
Now he might get impeached. For instance I expect there is a 90% chance he will accept bribes, but there is probably only a 20% chance he will get caught, and even if he is caught taking bribes he will probably claim there is nothing wrong with that. With a Republican majority in both the House and the Senate it is unlikely he would be impeached for corruption. He would probably have to sexually assault a prominent Republican's wife on camera to get impeached.

Well the good news is that a Nuclear war with Russia is very unlikely. Putin likes Trump. In fact Putin put a lot of effort into getting Trump elected.
So, if he uses the Nuclear codes it likely will only mean the end of a City or two, rather than the end of the world.
I am just glad that my Prim Minister is very diplomatic and has never said anything that might offend Trump... and that I live thousands of miles away from my country's capital. So, I probably don't have to worry about him dropping a Nuc on my head.

I just feel like many people over estimate the actual power a president has. I have been wondering about that for a few weeks now. If Trump demanded that a Nuclear bomb be dropped on Jerusalem or Reykjavik, would anyone of the Generals and other staff required to arrange the launch make a moral stand and refuse to do it? If someone did, would those around them support them, or support the President?

That means Trump can fasttrack laws and policies he likes with greater ease. Trump with a democrat congress or senate would have concerned me much less. This is very true. Also, since Trump does not believe he can make mistakes he will not need to take much time to ruminate over the laws he wants to pass. He will likely just come up with ideas and get them passed into law without really giving any thought to the consequences and implications of what he is doing.
Impulsive President who does not believe his can make mistakes. + A Republican controlled House and Senate. = A lot of changes coming really fast.
I take solace in the fact that the White middle class voters with no Collage education who voted him in are likely to get completely screwed over by a Trump presidency. They will have to learn this lessen the hard way, but at least some of them might learn. Maybe after Trump completely screws the US economy the Democrats can use the "Make America Great Again" slogan in the 2020 Election.
Isn't 2020 the 100 year anniversary of women in America getting the right to vote? Maybe the Democrats can find a better female candidate next time. They need a female version of Bernie Sanders who is like 30 years younger.

Not so fun for anyone living in the US though.

It was funny yesterday, watching the reports on the Canadian news about protest in the US, and then 3 hours later a reporter from CNN is sent to Trump Tower to do an onsite report and low and behold there is a protest going on that CNN apparently does not know anything about. It got more hilarious when they continue to try to do their scripted interview with the reporter about what Trump likely did that day, the whole time with the on site reporter struggling not to be distracted by all the Protesters yelling all around him.
CNN did start covering the protests an hour later, but it was funny how hard they worked to stick to the script.
I don't think the US news is controlled by the Government, but the people responsible for it care more about creating an entertainment show than covering news.
Another example is on Election night, CNN never covered the guy shooting people at a poling station in California. Now, me, I would think that voters standing in line getting shot at would be election news, but it was not part of their script so CNN did not cover it.
When I lived in the US in the late 90's I felt like I had to watch a foreign station to get any actual news. American news is mostly just opinion and commentary with only the occasional fact thrown in.
