Just be careful ccp.
Core gameplay mechanics is essential, your completely right about that. But as many people pointed out, you don't want this to be a generic lobby shooter. I believe in you guys and the interviews I've read leave me to believe your on the right track, just remember that a big factor that kept people around was the PC battles and small eve link.
I guess I'm just saying that you guys should also make sure the game has enough features to keep people playing. Without PC I can't imagine people would have stuck with dust for as long as they did. Maybe but who knows.
If you do launch nova without big things like corporations/PC then at the very least be very clear on the forums what your timeline is and when these features will be added. Otherwise people will have a hissy fit and drop the game.
I'd hate to see you guys put in all this effort, not do great right at the beginning, then give up when if you only added a few more features the game would have made it. I'm only saying this because I've seen it before with other games ;)
And obviously I'm not saying you guys specifically would give up! I'm leaning more towards ccp head management.....

And for gods sake! If you do release the game early and it's not finished, hold off on the marketing campaign and spending that money until the major features are added! that way you don't prematurely sower people's taste like what happened with dust! Remember day 1 when aver 10,000 people were playing? And how that permanently dropped to sub 3,000. Obviously player retention will never be high for any game, but no need to make it worse by releasing the game before its done!
I just wanted to get that off my mind, I know you guys have new leadership so my hopes are high

I love how these posts assume that rattati & co. Are idiots who haven't looked up just what % of the game population was involved in what aspects of the game.
Here's a hint: the number of people involved in PC was rediculously low compared to overall population, and many veteran corps abandoned PC because it wasn't fun.

IMAGINE!!!!!

The moment you hack the objective and charge shot a little button, machines start pouring quafe down the drought, bringing a river to life! Now you jump in it and splash all you want. Now, cloak up, duck and submerge yourself in the holy Quafe, tiring it a little blue through the cloak shimmer. As a turd Caldari sent passes by, shotgun and charge shot him to death! First off, I gave concession that I'm confident in the new leadership...... I simply wanted to speak my concerns. The very point of these forums is for ccp to see and address things like what I posted. I'm a huge ccp fanboy too, so get off your high horse.
Secondly, PC battles and the POTENTIAL for a stronger eve link is what I believe people stuck around for. How many people did you know stuck around because they thought one day the game would address this bug or that bug or add this feature. Yes, there was a lot about dust that made it unique besides PC. I only used PC as an example because being a former STB director has jaded my view of the game a little bit and that actually was my largest draw to it.
Regardless, the point still stands, ccp needs to make sure the game is special enough to keep the first wave of players entertained. Idk how long you've been playing, but it was a very disappointing feeling when only 10k people concurrently logged in at initial release and to then watch that number fall swiftly over the coming months.
I care about this games success and because I'm not mega rich the only thing I can do is voice the concern on the only forums I know where ccp might actually see it. My bad if that triggered you :p

For so long, I wanted to do PC. 3 Corps I filled myself up with CP (maxed) to do PCs but never had a team and always had extreme lag/low frame rates/ rubber banding, rendering my very presence in a PC useless.
Never was I able to go loco. Never did I have the luxury of getting millions from battles. Never could I say I contributed to flipping of districts. Never would I be known in the PC realm as a stomper.
So PC is something I'm looking forwards to the MOMENT it's available in Nova. It's something I've gone to long without doing I need to get in there. I don't know how I'll recruit members to Fed. Marines 62 aka Bravo Company, (don't know how I'll also fulfill me dream of seeing a full team of scouts with Bravo Company skin), nor do I know of it will even be available, but I have to do some. Gotta leave my mark on New Eden. Just a little trail of Quafe at least

For me, it wasn't just the glitchy battles, it was owning land of your own, the hard fights taking and defending (usually defending(and losing)), training people between battles, organizing members, FC'ing battles, the forum drama before and after. Granted, I was a director and had access to a whole different side of the game, but for me that's what made the game fun.
Even for our members who only played pubs, PC battles afforded them the opportunity to be involved in reimbursement programs and perhaps even a sense of added purpose. Some hated PC. Well. Most did. But for many it was a very large part of the game. I can't speak for the last year and a half of the games life as joining the military pulled me away from the game. But from what I saw it looked like issues were only being solved (mostly) with some (but few) notable bugs. That's better then codex or chromosome ever was lol.
And now I'm back! And ready for the new game! But I also just want to do my damndest to motivate ccp to do their best! Because when they really do their best the games tend to shine!

I'm quite frankly amazed that there was a tech demo ready to play that fast after they announced they were making a new game. Tech demos and alpha play or anything similar anything less than a year after announce is pretty impressive.
But since, If I recall the tech demo was hosted off the CCP HARPA site (this was a rumor from fanfest goers, not the devs) and if that was true that means the NOVA demo was stable and running full FPS over an actual net connection. Without choking on it's own vomit. That's also a leg up on DUST if true.
If I recall Uprising was hosted locally, and everyone was Oooh-ing and aaaaaahhh-ing at that build but it went pear-shaped over a net connection is probably what choked that bad boy out in the first place.
It also means Rattati is keeping his promise to focus on the issues that made DUST a miserable bastard to play.
All in all Rattati, Frame, LogicLoop and all of the other developers have made massive progress towards nova in a much shorter timeframe than DUST's development. From what I understand the new engine is a dream girl compared to the UE3 modifications they were using before.
But from what I understand, the NOVA demo had the most important possible feature: It was fun to play.
But since it was intended to cycle through dozens, then hundreds of people in a short time, it wasn't allotted things beyond a small map, a single game mode and a few fixed classes.
Now that's as far as I can go based on what the community knows. What I know has actually kept my attention. Assuming greenlight happens, the cautiously part of my "Cautiously optimistic" will fly out the damn window. I like what they have to say, and in my opinion, they are setting realistic goals they can achieve. And no they aren't planning to just release a skeleton game with no depth.

I agree with all of that, I don't have as much access as you did so I have less reason to be optimistic, but I do have plenty of reason to be optimistic based off the things we know (which encompasses more or less what you said). Even if they release the game with two maps (like dust), as long as the class customization is similar and the game runs fluid (which it looks like it will) then I'll be happy. I'll still want the other things, but what's most important is building the game with a solid foundation.
I just hope the developers don't react the same way they did for dust. For dust, the game wasn't a huge success from the beginning and so it was like after a while the team just gave up. There's new management in town and they seem to know the major things that caused it to flop. So i have faith. It just makes me nervous.
Otherwise, what is your personal opinion on when we might see an alpha release? I figure fanfest next year.

I honestly haven't got any frame of reference to where Alpha might fall. Since I've only played with Maya as a hobbyist, I know how time consuming one or two aspects of the process might be.
Past that, it's not like I get a daily report from the devs or whatever. So I have no earthly idea how fast development is going overall as far as time to alpha.
Any answer I gave would be either a troll or a straight asspull, just because I only see bits and snippets.
Could be next year sometime around summer, could be tomorrow. Could be later. I'll have a better idea when the Devs say it's on.
Speculation from me, Dennie, Darth, etc. ain't going to happen folks, partly because we don't know, partly because if we even make a Scientific, Wild-Ass Guess too many people will shriek that "we promised" or the devs did, if our predictions fall short, or something gets delayed, etc.
In short, me speculating on hard timelines would only create drama, like it did for CPMs in the past even though they weren't violating any NDA stuff.

Yes they did.
But that doesn't change my statement. Industry standard seems to be 1-2 years from public announce to playable demo/alpha.
Which puts CCP ahead of the power curve sharply if they wind up running alpha before december of next year.
Again I'm going from the announcement date. Believe it or not, they actually haven't told me when they said "f*ck it, let's start over with a new game."
So their actual start date is unknown to me.

It's hard to be "ahead of the curve" when you trashed your old build for the new build (Legion) 2 years ago without telling anyone They're basically just playing catch up with themselves at this point
