I think it's interesting that it seems to be a further step away from EVE:Online as far as gameplay. Eve physically is very easy to play even in PVP situations, but the fittings and the forthought about what you fly and why and when do you attack or retreat is perhaps the most important thing in the game besides the meta. This does seem a little dumbed down to me compared to DUST and I wonder what hardcore EVE vets will think about that. The importance of how you level and how you fit your suits is one of the things that kept me in DUST. I feel I'm always progressing kind of like my eternal clone solider(always learning and gaining experience always in a position to try something new). Will this new game have that or will it be focused on drawing from COD, BF4, and Halo? A lot I was suspecting to happen apearently is, and I hope to deal with it in a future response video but I want time to digest all the information.

The reason this is happening is due to CCP Z's interference. He did some kind of exit-survey of dissatisfied Dust 514 players after launch and came up with this idea that the game was too confusing and drove most players off.
What he never took into consideration was that the game was straight ass and nobody could be bothered to learn anything during the first and only 5 minutes they actually tried the game, so of course they checked the little "I have no idea what the **** I'm doing" box when it showed up.
Let this be a lesson that a college education isn't a substitute for actually knowing what the hell you are doing.

Yeah there is a reason EVE has survived for 12 years and part of it was that people were willing to invest in a long term progressive experience not a quick thrill.

Been playing EVE since it had only 3000 concurrent players per day. EVE Survived for 12 years because for a long time it seemed like it was expanding in all directions aggressively and would end up being the one true game to rule them all.
Then we figured out that CCP was a mix of incompetent management and enthusiastic underlings, which resulted in projects that would never actually get completed but left enough of an impression that they felt powerful to look at.

We now know alot more than yesterday.
My favorite tidbit is that those screenshots we saw a while back? Remember those? When we were like.. "What are those!??!"
Well Nova is those. Guess what?? That internal ship screenshot? Thats there in the demo. That exact room was there. Shiny as fuque. Glorious.
The astroid map screenshot was also confirmed by rattati in this interview.
Now if I can recall correctly, those other screenshots contained air vehicles hovering over a planetary installation, as well as a caldari Tank.
From the graphics we saw, those screenshots looked like in engine footage.
Meaning this, they have tanks, vehicles in the works.
THIS IS NOT BLACK OPS 514.
And its on unreal engine 4. A very accessible engine when considering a PS4 port. One that the Valkyrie team is very familiar with.
"Oh JDEZ you said it too soon"
"Idgaf" Look I want this game to be a PC BEAST!! But for Fuques sake they said they are "Far ahead of schedule"
Yea the UE4 does wonders. Makes things... Easier...
Im sure that if this exact tech demo was shown at E3 on the ps4 it would create some buzz. May not have to have the best graphics.. But they would definitely look better than planetside or pffff Blacklight Retribution (PS4 FTP FPSs)
But anyways, I'm excited for this title reguardless.
If they could maintain those great aspects of Dusts customization without making it too complicated I am all for it.
I always felt that a game of this quality could become a respected Esport if given the right foundation.
And gotdammit its lookin like a solid foundation already.
Ps: Sorry for dissin Planetside I love that game too ;) |

A lot of people are waiting to see what will become DUST 2.0 and I do hope they learned something from it though I am concerned with the direction they look to be taking early on. BUT, if it's going to truly be free to play I plan on playing though I'm not a big fan of PC gaming and tend to game on a laptop which is a whole nother subject. Plus a fps to me should be a controller style game as key n mouse moves in an awkward way in my experience unlike the more natural analog stick controller. Of course I have thought for a long time our space mercs move way too fast to be in these heavy metal suits and should move a little jerkily. If VR is the future of CCP games as they seem to be hinting at that is the direction they are taking it will need to be a smooth performance unlike what we have put up with in DUST.

Meh, I don't take it so personal. They things that had me interested in a CCP made FPS are nowhere to be seen in this new project, so it is clearly not for me. I hope CCP is successful in a very crowded marketplace, there is already plenty of options plain jane shooters.
I got a laugh out of the "I am a hardcore shooter player, and its important we get certain things right, like ... double jumps".

No clue, I stopped playing dust awhile back, tried to come back a couple of times, just couldn't get over the old problems. Could only ever tolerate them for a few days in a row.
Ken is in my corp in eve, but I dropped off the FA map. I really should get back into it.
As for nova, I'll read up on it, but unless it undergoes a dramatic expansion it really doesn't seem like my type of game. I was here for the depth, and the complexity, and the fitting, and the connection to a bigger universe. Doesn't look like any of those is a priority for the new title, so I doubt I will be a player.

As an Eve Online veteran since 2008, I will say with certainty that this is actually a good thing for Project Nova. Of course Dust has some connectivity with Eve directly but you can't ignore the cosmic problems behind them in how they were implemented.
Dust does have orbital bombardment support provided by Eve players but those are extremely limited in terms the level of impact both sides felt that they made on one another. Even in Faction Warfare, the impact was minimal. Eve Online players earned very little LP and a kill mail if they were lucky. Of course it can even be mathematically proven that if you drop one orbital and succeed in killing a mercenary on the ground with a destroyer and survive getting out of lowsec you can earn a tidy profit as an Eve pilot. Unfortunately given that FW matches require you to fly deep into enemy territory you risk losing that ship.
If you get at least one orbital but get caught and killed you merely break even when you compare profit and loss. You would be lucky to even get 2 orbitals out of a single match and that's assuming the player on the ground even remembers that you are up there. And if they forget to use the orbital and constantly spam the NPC warbarge instead, then you spent all that time traveling and getting into hostile space for nothing and then you have to fly another 10-13 jumps to the next FW match. To some pilots this happens quite a bit and it can get annoying especially when your team on the ground is full of blueberries.
Here is a video of an Eve player. As you can see it can get a little boring for them up there when they have to wait for a match to start, get intel on where the match is happening, wait at the beacon when you arrive and hope someone on the ground remembers you every 3 minutes.
https://youtu.be/vN32woMl6hE
Sure it's a connection none the less but it's a bad connection. The impact that the Dust match has on the local star system feels minimal at best unless somehow multiple matches are occurring on the same system which doesn't happen as often as it should unfortunately. To make matters worse, Dust players have no control over where the next FW match takes place. They have to depend on Eve players to run certain complexes in systems and hope a match spawns there but even then the system you're going to may not be strategic or important so the feeling of making an impact doesn't happen.
I ran FW quite a lot and during my whole time there I didn't feel that I was making any impact at all on Eve even though statistically I did. Again, the feeling was not there.
Planetary Conquest didn't help either. It does have an impact on control towers in Eve Online in Molden Heath but it's absolutely minuscule if not non-existent since all districts are limited to Molden Heath while the bulk of the alliances out not even there nor do they have any stake there. The Ivy League, my alliance, has no stake in Molden since they are in a region far far away which means any districts we own have no impact beyond just being training grounds. Even then, we don't have any districts.
Once again, the feeling of making an impact wasn't there at all.
The only thing that made me somehow feel remotely connected to Eve Online is the social aspect of the game. Various chat channels with Eve and Dust players communicating with each other and having fun doing that made me stick with Dust. In fact, before I took a long break from Dust not long ago after the announcement of Dust shutting down, I chatted with some people who often kept pointing to the social aspect of the game as their reason for sticking around. Some people in the forums admit that as well.
If this is any indication at all, then it seems that Project Nova can best succeed with keeping the social aspect of the game intact. And as CCP Frame clearly pointed out on Twitter...

It actually feels like CCP Rattati put his ass on the line on this FF16. Something tells me the pressure was not just about the players, it was about the media reception too AND the upper management who must have stated clearly to not "**** this up this time" or something.
And I bet the last-night sickness was guts related. High pressure, high outcomes, high stress...

As for Nova I must say I am disappointed that they are going with just a shooter instead of beefing up the MMO aspects of the game.
Can't help but feel that it would have been nice to have this shooter plus more to the game. Its not as if they dont have the machine power if they move to PC instead of consoles. |
