Just got a Email from CCP asking for former Eve players who are UNSUBBED to come back and try Eve again and as a bonus they will give us a free skill extractor.
Greetings xxxx xxxxx xxxxx
The final days of the reactivation special are here. You can still get a complimentary Skill Extractor when you return with a discounted three-month plan, but time is running out. Reactivate and grab them while you can!
They Beg us to play Eve and they Bury the game I wanted to play. Good luck with your bottom line in the future. I would have still bought merc packs if they would have some new bpo version in them. But CCP didn't want anymore of my money here. |

Honestly, I think Eve only really exists because there are so many people willing to pay to be a sycophant for some Tin God neckbearded bassmeant dweller (who might even work for CCP, wouldn't surprise me).
Don't get me wrong, it is a great concept, it can be great fun and you can meet some great people; but there is a facet of the community who kills the game for everyone they can. I haven't resubbed either, the only people I really miss from Eve, I can talk to outside of game.
Give me Consciousness and an Expense Account, all else is transitory.

EVE is a great concept if you're really looking to invest a large amount of time and energy to become involved with. It's pretty and even fun at points, but it just wasn't for me. And through my time with DUST, I have been thoroughly turned off from CCP products in the future unless they are completely free to play.
I'm glad it's still doing well and people are enjoying it, but it definitely wasn't for me. Here's hoping CCP gets DUST-2 right, but we'll just have to wait and see.

EVE: Online is a fun game, you should play it again. And while they did bury this game, it doesn't matter, the concept that this game brought matters. As long as the concept survives into a new game, that's alright with me.

I think its curious that even since Seagull took over shop, EVE has been steadily losing concurrent players. We can blame that on any number of factors, but it doesn't make it any less true and it doesn't seem to be changing directions with its current focus either.
Sooner or later, big change is going to have to come to CCP or it will be inevitable collapse of all established properties. Simply begging people to come back through what is essentially a non-offer is old hat and doesn't do much to stop the blood loss.
This is a positive and endearing message brought to you by Himi.

Even ignoring the obvious hacker issues, I don't think a new eden FPS on PC can do anything for them.
Fact is, there are thousands of FPS choices on the platform and there is a finite number of players interested in the genre itself. The game is niche enough as it is, I just don't see it pulling any kind of a population that can rival EVE.
It wouldn't be surprising to me if the games quality greatly exceeded PS3 Dust but the population was even smaller. In the land of PC this kind of thing happens all the time.

The thing that makes them want to rage quit is CCP changing things. At least some of those changes are meant to make EvE more attractive to new players. But the new players still don't like it enough to stick around.
So CCP in their endless quest for more revenue, has shot itself in the foot. Again. |

The only point in a New Eden FPS is if it's integrated into EvE. If it's not, there are too many other games out there that would probably be better to play. |

Concurrent users viewed over 6 month period hasn't seen numbers this low since a 2007-2008 span. And that's just concurrent characters, not concurrent players.

This is a normal thing for any company. I get them from Blizzard and the likes.
On another note; every game gains and loses players to other games and whatnot. That's just the normal cycle. I would also imagine the huge drop in numbers lately is also directly linked to the ban that CCP put out for certain programs being used to auto play EVE. Yeah that happened more than a year ago, but imagine all the people who probably had their toons plexed for x amount of months.
Maybe it's a bit of a stretch, but I can see that being a HUGE factor in loss of characters.

EVE began failing when they allowed griefing to be normal play and pushed the 'Welcome to New Eden' attitude. DUST has had the same basic issues 1. The SP gap 2. Experienced players abusing new players. It isnt fixed because its treated with the same old 'Poor newbro. Here now. Lemme pour some concrete in your chocolate milk so you can HTFU.' Its reality. Its hard. Too few gamers play games to experience hard reality.

Mails like these are pretty standard.
Also... goodbye I guess? I think it's good that we actually might get the possibility to play the game they always announced now.
