Everything runs on the Tranquility server for a start, so NOT having an EvE link is kind of impossible. The true problem with Dust is PSN and the PS3. |

Dust is gone.
No one knows if the "new game" will be on TQ. (My guess is no but CCP does not learn too fast)
Valkyrie is expressly separated from Eve.
Oh and PSN was never an issue. It just acted as a login that passed through a user id and an authorization token no different than logging in on a webpage or even in the Eve launcher.
The PS3 is debatable but I will say that many other companies including smaller companies than CCP were able to fit FAR more content and functionality on to the PS3 than CCP did.

The Eve link between both games is really minimal already. We share the "world" and are allowed to get a few orbitals bit that is it.
As for the Ps3 part, DUST appears and acts like the early PS3 games. This is literally their first game on console so it was expected to run poorly. If they had experienced members using this type of architecture we would be focusing on the real problem which was management.

The reason the link between Dust and EvE is minimal is by accident not by design. It was INTENDED from the outset to be highly linked, even integrated, with the concept of Walking In Stations which was a dismal failure.
Yes, the new game is very likely to be running on TQ, and I do believe that there is still a link with Valkyrie, or at least that's the way it has been presented in the past - something like being able to actually fly the fighters that are launched from carriers.
The links are there, at least in the design of these games. Whether they actually work is up to CCP. |

I think saying its their first console game so it was expected to be bad is a bit of a cop out.
They knew they wanted to make a console game and had unlimited opportunity to at minimum hire a couple of people that knew the PS3 architecture and the UE3 well to at least make it so they were not operating it what seemed like a guess and check infrastructure.
If google were to hire someone to over see the search algorithms that barely even knew what a search algorithm is and he tanked it would the users and the share holders say it is fine because he did not know? I have to believe they would say what the hell google why would you not hire the the right person for the job.
At the time that CCP started Dust the PS3 had been around for quite some time and there was a huge number of developers out there that had worked with the PS3 for most of its life cycle. If CCP really could not find a few of those people to properly over see the programming and design of a PS3 game that were willing to come work for them then I guess we are all sadly mistaken about CCP as a whole. Along with not building a proper team they also decided to use fill ins from the Eve team to handle larger parts of the game. |

Honestly I think it would be a bad idea. Getting into another contract with Sony would be a bad move.

Actually, I can bet a lot of my Eve Online ISK that the New Eden FPS for PC will be on Tranquility on the grounds that our character data is strictly stored in that particular server with maybe backups stored in an isolated server for redundancy. Also, if you go to www.eveonline.com while still logged in to www.dust514.com you will likely run into a problem where you can't log in to your Eve Online account on that website because you're signed in to your Dust account on another website.
This is the message I get on my account management page of Eve.
Quote:Please note: You do not have access to this part of EVE Account Management since you are logged in as a Dust514.
This is all hinting that we might see some transfer of our name to the new game and possibly operating in the TQ server.

Along with not building a proper team they also decided to use fill ins from the Eve team to handle larger parts of the game. That falls again with the management, they tried the bring in guys who only had worked on EVE to try to make an FPS then switched them in and out hoping to find some sort of combo of workers. If they had consulted or hired developers from Sony or an experienced development team the story would have been very different. Hell I remember hearing some players saying "DUST ruined consoles for me" like seriously this is the best example of what happens to a game that no one did their homework on, not even close to what the average console game should play/perform.
It's embarrassing that they tried to achieve something so grand with graph paper and crayons. Sometimes it's better to hire someone else than do it yourself.

By the way, to further intensify the tin foil hattery, has anyone here noticed that the "FREE STUFF" thread that was stickied long ago in the General Discussion section is now gone?

Holy crap that was just removed in the last couple of days.
I think it may have been because OP changed the title to "free stuff - RIP dust" or something like that tho. Not exactly a good title to have as a sticky. |
