Hey everyone, we had some great news lately (for me anyway) that CCP are making a new fps on PC and a lot of people are moving to the Master Race. Here are some PC part lists I made for 3 budgets to help you make the move (yes building yourself isn't to hard and will save you A TON).
Background: I only owned a PS3 for MAG and Dust, first and foremost I am a member of the master race. I've been building PC's for a while now (hobby), mostly for friends who wanted to make the move and I've done almost 20 builds so far. I also keep up to date with latest hardware trends and such
Disclaimer: We of course don't know the system requirement's of this new game yet but I'm basing this off other UE4 games so its safe to assume this new game will run similarly
Also Prices in USD cause most of us are american (I'm Canadian though, I'm just being nice eh)
So lets get started
Build One Comes out to $514 dollars (heh). For the budget its a nice PC with a i3 processor which isn't the best but for the budget meh and a R9 380 GPU, a very nice card that I have in my own rig.
Build 2 Comes out to about $900, beast of a PC, will max out games no problem. Only thing is whether you want a R9 390 or a 970. Performance wise they're near identical unless you move to 1440p and 4k where the 390s 8gb of vram get a edge over the 970s 4gb. Some people like nvidia better and like features such as shadowplay and physx so up to you.
Build 3 For the rich players amongst us you can get a i7 4790k with a sick cooler for ocing and a 980ti when 100fps just isn't enough (or 1440p)
If you liked this and have any questions ask and If you want I can do another one with peripherals in the budget

I haven't messed with a PC since 1999. What's the difficulty level on building PC's these days? Is experience required? |

I have recently seen videos on youtube with sub $400 gaming machines that are on par with if not more powerful than the PS4.
If anyone in actually interested in what you can get in terms of a gaming PC for the same sort of money as a PS4 then just do a youtube search or a google search. People make new builds and lists literally every month with the latest money saving build. |

More straight forward than ever I would say. If you could build them in 99 then you can build them now. A little refresher video online probably wouldn't hurt though if you are concerned. |

Back then you had IDE cables trailing all over the place making the whole thing a mess. Now SATA cables are a lot more tidy and user friendly. Most decent cases now have the power supply in an alternate location for better heat management and overall I just think builds are a lot neater and easier to work on.

With New Dust so far away, would it be advisable to buy a PC piece by piece? Spread out the price of a high end PC over a long period of time? |

You messed up on build 3.
This board will do some serious OCing on this ram.
Get with the program man. DDR4 is the only good reason to go with intel right now as otherwise you are better of with the new fx-9590. |

To the 1999 comment: you're fine. Same logic and general layout but with different cable standards and access points. It may give you pause for a minute or two, but you'll find the changes are cleaner and easier. Oh. And for some reason, fashion is now a thing. Lights, form design, plastic windows,....blah blah. That might **** you off but that's probably the worst of the changes. IMHO of course.
To the save and wait: tech changes FAST. If you're only building for the DUST replacement, wait till you know sys requirements. If it's 2 years out, current components will be older, cheaper, and replaceable in 2 years.

EDIT: Here is a proper "rich player" build. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/mbgkFTDropping the second 980 ti is totally feasible but you aren't master race if you don't even have SLI. Most people would take a i7 over a 9590 any day I have no idea what you're talking about. The 1500 was my limit for the 3rd build cause most wouldn't spend more then that and yes you can be master race without sli or xfire...

The 9590 edges out the i7 when you match up the processors head to head.
The issue comes when you move to the parts that go around it. The primary reason being as I said AMD does not have support for ddr4 ram.
When it comes to maxing out a budget build its the 9590 all day with a fat stack of ddr3. When it comes to serious power i7 + ddr4 does win. |

Well, my PS3 is so old (it's a fatty. A relic, from another age) it can't even handle Dark Souls anymore, so I guess it's time to put it out to pasture and move on. Never built a rig from scratch before, but the prices all seem reasonable and I'm no idiot, so...yeah. Thanks for this, very useful.

Clock-for-clock, Intel's current processors take the cake almost every time. The FX-9xxx series processors are also pushed so heavily, there is almost zero OC headroom. They don't even come with stock coolers, because they would just burn up under anything that wouldn't drive up the price.
I'm still hopeful for the upcoming Zen line, however. Anyone that's not adamant about jumping the gun immediately should consider waiting until AMD releases some more info about their upcoming CPU/GPU lines. They will probably be out later this year, and it will probably be make or break for AMD as a company. If they're serious about staying in the business, their next generation will be going all in. Or they will crash and burn, but I'm trying to stay hopeful. |
