People stockpiled things like that and just rarely used them. It wasn't worth making a new fitting for most players when you had a finite supply, say... 50-100 of something, unless you really enjoyed that weapon, especially before the second resupply option was added that let you only resupply what you were missing during battle. I've had tons of officer weapons for ages, nearly in the triple digits for a few of the rifles and could have been using them like candy at any time (Mind you, this is WAY before player trading and the warbarge were ever a thing) but I didn't feel like bothering (Though I still saw other players using them in pubs occasionally, especially when they thought they were winning and wouldn't lose them)
CCP would never wipe assets like that though, as some of those officer weapons/suits are tournament won and can't even be salvaged anymore. Not only that, but players would just get back to trading again as soon they could, so to remove this "overabundance" of officer weapons and suits, you'd have to eliminate player trading for officer gear, wipe everyone's Isk, all assets and officer gear included from said assets or the cycle would simply begin anew within a few days/weeks... This game would flounder and lose most of the players it had left at that point, and given the mass of glitches it has, the lack of an ad campaign by CCP, and the plethora of other, better games on the market at the moment, it would probably never recover from that loss.
no but CCP could remove them from salvage and loot boxes, until the population of gear fell low enough. that would put more pressure on players to not run them in pubs. |

Oh wait. You had your time of glory when you could pilot stack and have 3 XT Missile Turrets back when ADS skills gave 50% bonus.

Also, was never a Python pilot back then, but try again

You had the option of being a God. Not choosing it is a different story. It's the same thing with officer/proto/pretty much anything.

So what I'm hearing is that officer gear is just as much of a problem as ADS was then, so it should be fixed?
I'm so glad we agree :D

We felt it was a bad idea to allow dozens and dozens of weapons to be generated freely by every player and his/her alts. We argued and pleaded with CCP to change the system, and eventually they agreed. You can contend that it was too little too late, but we got to it as soon as we had the power to do so.

I used to be against running Officer and Proto in Pubs.
I have become bitter overtime though and now all I seem to run is Proto and Officer Gear.

Officer gear, with a bigger gap from officer to proto than proto to basic and everyone can stock pIle it lol. I don't really care about the abundance though xt missiles are greater than all and officer av is no big deal to a skilled ads. What I'm more concerned about is how utterly screwed new players are after removing slot differences between teirs. If you were new and wanted to go into, say a sct, you pretty much couldn't even use all your slots. Knowing this, it also raises the concern of how many of these "new" players are really that new. Pretty much none of these problems have been adressed and this is your end game. Enjoy as you see fit and if you can't git guwd get out, if you can't enjoy yourself step back and take breaks you'll find logging in more fun when you do, and most of all if you really just find you can't enjoy the game in it's current state the best feedback is not logging in not remaking these salty posts.

Dust doesn't have that kind of life span left. It'd take months for people to drain their officer stocks, especially for those commonly using them in pubs, who probably have hundreds if not thousands stockpiled. Now... if the game got ported to another system, or even better, redone (Looking at you, Legion) this would be a completely different story. Getting rid of assets would be a necessity, not merely a possibility to balance the game, however... I don't believe we'll be seeing that anytime soon, if ever.
What? Am I mad? Why do you ask?

DeathwindRising wrote:It's 2016 and some of us are still here. Overall, things are falling apart. Mass disconnects are becoming more frequent, and Frame rate issues are still plaguing us. Lag of course is still here, but really what im concerned most about is the rampant and borderline common use of Officer gear in pub matches. And also the jump mods.
Officer gear was supposed to be rare. It's not. You can't play one match without someone running Officer gear these days. Can you look into usage data for officer gear?
I'm not sure, but you guys didn't plan game and weapon balance under the assumption that officer gear would become common did you? The gear is by design, op, and now new players are facing vets without access to these items. They can't compete. I was under the assumption that officer gear was for the highest levels of play, such as in a tournament, but stomping noobs in pubs with it? How is officer gear balanced when it's frequent and common?
Please review game design and balance for Dust 514.
Game was dying and CCP was right for allowing free use of officer gear for people to enjoy the game in this climate. Probably why sp is so easy to get nowadays. SP used to have a limit of 195K in a week. You can get almost100K sp just from daily missions some days!

This is an MMO before an fps. balance should be very subtle and not that powerful.
