And seriously, I understand why the new players are leaving the game and don't stay on...
Indeed, for the fun (in reality it was for the event but well... ), I created a secondary account on my PSN account, so only militia stuff and only 500k SP.
Then, I decided to touch nothing at my fitting and directly I went to search a match, and OMG... I'm not the best player, but with 3 years experience, I know what I have to do and I think I'm enough good in 1vs1 to make some resistance but NO!
Impossible to do something against these f*cking proto suits! particularly against gk.0 assault (and even more if they play with the breach rifle!!!). The only way for me to kill these guy was to waiting my teammate and looking when they are pushing the ennemy team, or attack on the back while he focus to another person to have a (little) chance to kill these proto man.
In general, I didn't have really problems to kills Milicia and standart suits. Advanced fits was more hard indeed, but not impossible at all... But against the protos suits, in 1vs1 it's just impossible to win the duel (or he was very very bad). So you can say: "it's normal, he has more SP/time/experience in the game than a new player", and I agree with that, or "you just need to play in teamplay", ok, but when it's a full proto squad, what do you say?
Today I just realize that I also participate at this problem, because in my main I play only in proto too (I'm firstly a PC player), and I prefer not imagine the feeling of a real new player with 0 experience when he start the game...
So to be constructive what are the problem I have seen when you play as a new player?
Hum... first the matchmaking of course, one time I'm in the good side so I'm lucky, and an other time I'm not in the good side and my team is just not enough good to make any resistance against the ennemy team, so it's a... slaughter
-proto suits/weapon, and especially proto squad
-gallente assault DPS (even in std weapon, if the man has the skill at level 5, the DPS is ridiculously high), tactical weapon (srambler too...)
CCP, I hope in Legion/DUST 2.0 you will create a special mode for the new player, with only militia stuff, because it's fun the milicia in reality. I really enjoyed to fight against others militia people, but when a new player fight against proto... hum hum and I'm a little frustrated because I'm pretty sure some of these people are worthless in PC, or with a milicia stuff. Protostomp is too easy indeed...
Ah and, very good idea for the uplink integrated to the prefit milicia, it's cool, but please, make a tuto for new players because I'm sure they don't really know they have uplink (above all in domination lol) in their fits.
What do you think about all that? I would like to know your advise, for my part, my new resolution 2016 is to stop the public proto on my main character (in FW/PC of course I continue of course ). It's maybe too late, but it's better than nothing ^^
Good luck on the battlefield! o/

But it isnt just proto suits. Because you can pack tons of hp in an adv sujt with a good gun....dont forget prof and warbage bonuses.
The problem is getting out of mlt suits...they are worthless. If you have a std or adv suit, then you stand a much better chance of facing proto suits.
Officer suits like the rattatis are another story entirely.

I have said it before and I'll say it a thousand times; tiered gear should be about versatility rather than power.
In the case of DUST, versatility should be inverse to the tier. So, a proto role suit should be less mods and rely on the specific bonuses of that role. Whereas the basic, non-role suits should allow for general, mod based adaptation.
Get rid of the tiers of basic and role suits. You have one basic and one role suit that act as tiers within the same category.
Then, have more bonues specific to the race of the suit. So, the basic allows for cross racial weapon use and add a mod that grants a general weapon bonus to whatever weapon is used. The role suit bonuses would not stack with module and would supercede it.
Boom! A new player can, through mods have the bonuses of a role suit until they can train the suit skill to them allow he bonuses to take over. The vet player also gets to have true mix and match merc fun as well as provide hybrid style support with crossover role potential.
So there! Your welcome Earth.

You can not even begin to compare NPE in Planetside 2 to Dust. Planetside has an actual learning curve while Dust has a giant wall that players may or may not make it over. The Dust NPE is just an outright trial by fire meant to either force people to spend money thinking they will catch up or just forcing them to leave.
NPE in Dust has been horribly ignored and the falling player base has left new players getting tossed in against people that they should not be facing within the next year.
Add to that the fact that there is zero incentive to win so the chances of them getting abandoned by their team that actually has some skills are insanely high.
A simple look at player "churn" will tell you there is a serious problem. Sure a smaller amount of people to pull in thanks to being on the PS3 is bad but no free to play game should ever have a player base in a constant state of decay. When new player retention can not even offset the trickle of try hards that give in and move on to the PS4 you can safely bet that the future is very grim.
Why do you think all monetization strategies have been built around farming the same whales as hard as possible as oppose to getting a bit of cash out of new players earlier to maximize potential income?

It probably feels impossible. I'm sure it does. This is why Rattatti's comment on tutorials - "we don't need to teach players how to shoot a gun" is so infuriating: It's reductio ad adsurdum applied to a straw-man argument.
It's not about shooting the guns, it's about the several complex interconnected battlefield and information systems. That's what new players need in a real tutorial. What is a real tutorial? It's a tutorial that serves the needs of the player, not the needs of the developer.
Go figure.

NPE is pretty trash. Especially because of the vast difference in SP/ISK/WB/Experience. I think a nice counter to this (in terms of boosting morale of new players) would be to start them off with a higher unallocated SP so they can get their feet off the ground.
Giving them a tutorial and encouraging them to try out different suits in the Battle Academy would be a nice start to letting them get a feel for which suits they want to skill into (as well as weapons).
I realize that giving them more SP to allocate would require more ISK to be given, but to avoid the farming of ISK by people making new accounts; I think CCP should make it so their fist suit, weapon, racial module fitting to their class of suit should have the cost removed. I say racial mod fitting to their class because it will help them in the right direction for how to build suits. They can experiment later with fittings and mods after they learn the game more.

This is the weird thing about Dust. I've been playing BO3 quite a bit on my PS4. You die almost instantly. If there are people running around in a party they completely destroy everything. In Dust you have a much longer TTK, you have the opportunity to retreat into cover before you are killed (unless you are out in the wide open).
I think the tweaks have to be in the asset loss risk/reward mechanism. I like this part of Dust, but I don't think many humans are able to able to prioritize fun in relation to that mechanism properly. |

Bravo on having the honesty to say this. I know you don't know this character but I have seen you about on my main, even gone up against you recently in PC (got slaughtered but still was fun).
The games matchmaking or what ever the hell you want to call it does suck. I wish as a community we had the option to put ourselves into "tiers" of battle should we so wish it.

Every new player should be able to pick a weapon of his or her choice with level 5 proficiency starting of and then a tutorial on the gun effectiveness against shields and armour and range. That way new player can at least stand a chance with the gun they pick. Then the tutorial goes onto explain there suit and how they can get more survivability out of it.

Back in my day, new players didn't have the warbarge giving away free ISK. Back in my day, new players most certainly did not get bonus SP from the warbarge. They didn't have daily AUR login bonus back then, either. They did not posess the ability to get amazing items like BPO weapons from Boxes. Back then, new players didn't have missions to give them money, SP, AUR or Keys. And back in my day, new players didn't have access to standard-grade suits that have the slot layout of proto suits.
See, new players have it easier today than they did back then. You simply cannot refute the above FACTS.

I feel like you compared two of the opposite example where second to second play does not work really well: you should feel good when you get a kill, as you feel good in doing the right tactical maneuver in order to kill someone.
In cod, ttk is so short that it doesn't really give you satisfaction both because as soon as someone is a bit too much out of your reticle, you're dead and because of kills being so frequent that getting one is not enough satisfactory.
On the other hand, in Dust it takes so much that the satisfaction of getting a kill is negated by the enemy retreating as soon as they see they're in danger (this behavior is actually a mix of "human nature" and the fact that you actually paid in game currency for that suit you're wearing). So the whole game gets slowed down, nobody uses risky tactics and they all opt for the safest spot (or fit) to get an assist/kill without dying. Competitive might be a little different, but the "safest spot boring tactic" is still there.
From my perspective, you should not survive if you run 30 meters under enemy fire, still, you should survive long enough in order to make the game challenging for everyone.

Because yes back in my day (2-3 years ago), 90% players used militia-std and adv stuff.
Back in my day, the majority of players played for the victory and didn't care about their kdr/isk.
Back in my day, ambush was fun, and it was possible to play in skirmish...
Back in my day, the jumpy mod with mass driver didn't exist...
There is many others examples to prove that the currently game play is less good and less fun for new players, and also vets.
Seriously I miss the old days, because today when I see all these gallente assaults (and it's sad, because for 80% of these players who play with it I'm sure they didn't skilled in before the buff, this old mode effect who exist since the beginning is so boring... good job CCP for the free respec by the way), all these assault shotgun, all these mass driver with myo, the spam of proto tank in pub (I saw that today, I wanted to broke my controller because one more time, 80% of these "pilots" come back directly in their redline if you shoot on him... best players ever), new officer (especially Agimus and Bon's...) and experimental stuff use in pub etc. etc. ...
The new players, and even ME! want to leave the game with all these incoherence.
Personally, I stay in DUST only for my friends and the only competitive mode, aka the planetary conquest, but now this mode is dead, and when I see the (only) strategy for the 1st PC Corp to win is simply the spam of assault shotgun/gallente/mass driver myo (where are the logi/heavy, scouts/e-war? The base of the team play ?) and camping in the roof if it's needed, it's just not normal at all.
Today the mechanics are broken, and I hope in the eventual futur of DUST, all that will disappear because, I can be patient, but now that frustrate me so a lot since 2 months, or maybe more, that... if in 3 or 4 weeks the game still be like that, I will leave DUST definitely and I will wait the next game/upgrade, because it's sadly to say, but the game give me a really bad experience now.
CCP I believe in you, but PLEASE, fix all these incoherence, really...

I have an alt account i recently started. The best thing to do is not fight in combat till you have enough isk to get a militia tank. I played one game with 0 kills 0 deaths maybe a few warpoints on killing installations from other ground installations.
Before next game starts buy a tank, fit it up, the go into battle with it. You can make plenty of points that way.
Starter Fit Suits are OP :-)
