In fact, DUST has very little aim assist compare to most other FPS console games. The main problem with DUST is DUST supports KB/M (keyboard and mouse) where few KB/M players are able to constantly do headshots while most are lucky to get headshots here and there with their thumbsticks. Besides, to make a controller strafe back and forth, there is a neutral space that must be passed across causing a delay in movement while arrow keys have no such neutral space thereby going left to right and right to left without delay. This has been pointed out numerous times. If all aim assist was to be removed, KB/M players would likely simply r a p e controller players all the more.
I have said this multiple times but of course I always here the same "you can do the same thing on a controller!" which is complete horsesh!t. I fitted a agile as **** min suit up and test with a friend watching how fast the movement stick could be moved. It's still nothing compared to the instantaneous movement of someone using a kb/m. What's more is that kb/m players know this and will mash those "A,D,A,D,A,D" every single time you fight them. What's more is that the movement is SO quick that there are server lags in the hit detection so you can be hitting them square on but not doing damage. I know about juking. I've been playing fps on consuls for over a decade. But this is absurd. Why CCP allowed this disparity in controls though is beyond me. I don't know if they did to cater to their PC masses from EVE but it should have never been allowed. There is a reason that KB/M is NEVER allowed in ANY consul video game tournament and so long as they continue to allow two different controls with very different rules applied to them nothing will truly be "fair". |

While the reason for AA's existence is correct, the description (the R.) is hugely exxagarated. KBM did have somewhat of an advantage before AA, but that's it. It was never a winning ticket. But, still advantage nevertheless and some corrective actions were justified against it.

I very much doubt that they would be able to keep aim while doing their "footwork". LOL, there are way too many theories about why it seems "more" people played Dust back before the Aim Assist was introduced. So I can't agree with this stance from the very first post in this thread.
Dust was more BRUTAL and hard to play back then, and that kind of "game" has a way of hooking long-term players and cerebral players FAR more than it does quickie short-term players and simple-game lovers. (But, interestingly the long-term players resist using AUR more than the short-term players---I am an example of that---so CCP's recent profit may be HELPED by having a fast turn around of short-term players, instead of the "more" long-term players you enjoyed before Aim Assist). WOW. What a theory.
Another theory is, fewer people are playing the current version of the game because there's not as clear a path to climb towards Planetary Conquest benefits right now. Not having anything at all to do with "Aim Assist". Back then, it was ultra-cool to finally build your character to a level respectful enough to dip your foot in a PC match----today, PC is played for fun, with less prestige and less struggle... so why worry to build ambitions and stick around in this game for the long haul anymore? Play like Destiny for 3 months or so, then yawn and put it down.
See? All sorts of theories. I won't give my opinion about Aim Assist again. But it is cool to play in a sci-fi environment where your weapon-technology has become so adept at scanning an enemy, identifying the make of her dropsuit, analizing her suit hp weakness, and plotting the highest probability of hit and kill,... ....that we don't just "attack" an opponent in this universe. In New Eden you MUST coat you suit in peanut butter, jiggle from side to side rapidly, and drag a live farm hen on a rope behind you,... to try to throw off the opponent's targeting system as you run up to fight him.
I'm not trying to be sarcastic. I'm serious, I LIKE this. It's funny, it's hilarious to see what some of you do to avoid a slug in the forehead, and I don't have laughter-fun any other PS3 game nearly as much as my good time playing Dust.
...Maybe that's why my BF doesn't play this game with me as much any more. He takes the gameplay more seriously than me.
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...

It might have been on the menu, but like so many other things, it was nonfunctional. The AA as we know it was introduced during early fall of 2013, probably August and then tweaked in September.

If my memory is correct, AA existed prior to that, but hit detection was non-existent (we could fire 2 full clips AR rounds at a target not moving and only 5 meters away and no damage would register). As a result, it was if it didn't exist. Once they updated that, CCP realized the AA was too strong and lowered it.

He takes the gameplay more seriously than me. Well, I for one an turned off by all the coating in peanut butter, jiggling from side to side rapidly and dragging live farm hens on a rope behind me. I find all such things inane and ridiculous, as clearly do you. But I don't find them "laughter-fun", I actually dislike them to the point of quitting the game whenever I encounter something like this that offends me to a great enough extent.
I continue to play as much as possible as I always have FPSs, firing from cover, aiming using sights where possible, from a distance where my better aim using my preferred weapons (usually a good RR) will have a greater effect on my target than they could possibly have on me.
I am ultimately most incensed by being taken out from the flank, while in cover, by someone blatantly out in the open where they have no reasonable right to be, because in any decent FPS, they would have died from someone else long before they got a chance to target me. When that happens is when I usually turn off the console and do something more productive, at least until I cool down enough to contemplate the prospects of such idiocy again.
No I don't find such things "fun". They to me are an indication I'm wasting my time playing this game. If the dynamics of the game were such that people couldn't get away with anything so puerile as that described above, and people actually had to do "normal" things like firing from cover, etc, then I probably would feel this game had some sort of future. Perhaps it really does just come down to rapid turnover of high-AUR using players. I'm not a long-liner at Dust but I am in New Eden, and I certainly don't count as a high-AUR user. I loath AUR, as do most of the EvE players I know. But CCP makes money from AUR in Dust, so it's reasonable they would develop the game to be one that favours the high-turnover model, rather than the player retention model. The problem is, as far as I can see, there is certainly high turnover, but the player retention is suffering so badly, there may not be enough players for the high turnover players to fight against!
All that said, every day I find my time playing Dust is decreasing, I quit and turn off the console faster, I leave battle faster on seeing something ridiculous, or being stomped in a pub that's supposed to be loaded with players at my level (no I don't believe that, but it's supposed to be that way, apparently). In short, if I were to plot it, I'd say my time playing Dust each day is asymptotic to the x-axis, and in the not-too-distant future, unless the fabled 1.3 seriously fixes a lot of these issues, which I do not believe are even seen as issues, I will be turning off the console so soon after starting play that I might as well leave it off. |
