Can anyone please tell me why its like this? Its insanely frustrating as a new pilot, one because I'm still learning Nand I make mistakes. But to die instantly just for lightly touching the MCC or RDV is just dumb.
You already can get on top of any building, regardless of how close it is to the enemy redline. So landing on top of an MCC is no different.
I just can't understand why this exiss in its current form. Anyone know?
Between proto swarms/forge guns and insta deaths from RDV call ins or MCC bumps makes me wish i never spent points in ADS. I can rarely use them and have fun in a game, usually spent trying to get a kill or wipe out links while running from AV all game. Its just not worth the points invested, as running ADS in pubs can not make up for the cost of pulling one. |

It is a common myth that MCC is instadeath for dropships. I've seen even expert players to have that illusion. It is possible to land on it - dropship intact.

It's not goofy or weird to instantly die striking the MCC or Balos (RDV) with your Dropship. There is a game logic to it. It's actually the equivalent of ramming an HAV or ramming a DS that has much greater armour hp than your DS.
The MCC has enormous armour hp, (the RDV is packed with some too). And it's just a rule you will come to learn as you get more advanced with your vehicle skills: In a hard impact, the vehicle with the greater armour will SHRED the vehicle with much less armour (even if your vehicle is stacked with a lot of SHIELD hp).
That explains why several players here are pointing out that LANDING on an MCC is perfectly possible, and used to be done a LOT. A slower gentle contact with the MCC is tricky, but not lethal. (Entering the MCC with a DS is also poss---oops, maybe I shouldn't be telling you that stuff, err, ugh.)
The point is, (changing the subject quickly...) as long as you don't knock into these service ships with any kind of speed, and you have generous armour on your DS, it's not an instant death----just an experience you don't want to repeat often.
Other experiences you want to avoid as a DS student are the Air-to-Air Weapons the MCCs are firing at each other---they are "Missiles" (which means they're designed to eat armour), and are exponentially more destructive than any missile we shoot from our HAVs and Installations. They ARE instant death if you happen to fly right in the path of one.
The Null Cannon PORT on the map is the same animal as the MCC-missiles. It's often hard to see, because it's not necessarily next to the Null panel. But it is a gun-muzzle firing a missile UP, then dropping DOWN onto an MCC. Five Null Letters on the map, means five muzzles planted on the map somewhere. DON'T carelessly swoop or hover over one----it's instant death, no matter what your armour.
Remember, SHIELD absorbs energy, but not physical impact. ARMOUR is what's needed to absorb physical blows. And nothing can easily absorb the physical blow of Null Cannon rounds and MCC hulls.

Basically what it comes down to is that you are flying upward.
In the case of the RDV, it is essentially moving and so are you so with combined force of hitting each other you get the insta death.
In the case of the MCC, your thrusters are pushing you upwards and yeah.....you die.
Those little nodes on the bottom of your dropship, the ones that come down when you are landing or have something below you? Yeah they protect you from exploding during a descent. Sometimes you will explode but lag has more to do with lag or just throwing your ship at the ground.
Also....dropships don't have defenses...even against feathers. However, this is the most logical explanation I could offer you.

Landing on the MCC is not very difficult. Just land softly and make sure you are not in the impact area of null missiles.

Yes, very easy to land on it; however impossible afaik to survive if you touch the underside of the MCC. Its a deterrent for people trying to land inside the MCC.

Friggan CCP logic...
LOL, don't blame the CCP logic on this item. No, seriously. You don't know it, because you're a relatively new player, but you've chosen to play around with the HARDEST most frustrating item in the game...(many of us fell into the addictive trap of Drosphips, and drivers have got no one to blame but ourselves for persistently trying this thing that gets us mad). This game is supposed to be a foot-game. DS was never meant to be so popular and envious.
Far to many players (calling ourselves "pilots") have the notion in our heads that we were able to pull of feats that "you-all other players are clearly too untalented to do".... but believe me Daemonn, all that talk is RUBBUSH, and too many of us are legends in our own minds.
I learned never to think of a DS as aircraft. It's a horse. You have to keep pulling on reins to get it to do what you want, and tugging on it again to keep it standing in own place. If you're too gentle with a horse, it goes where it wants, not where you want. If you're too angry with the horse---it will smack you head into a tree just to get you off its back.
And your idea of "gentle stop" is never the horse's idea of gentle. You may THINK you're making the right kinds of touchdowns. But.....
But, most of all, my advice is DON'T take any DS player's suggestions that they are good, seriously. The GOOD players, don't even say it. The ones who seam to swagger every time they talk about the DS, don't rate passed shooting someone, hitting an afterburner, and using their hot air to successfully skirt injury.
That's a hotshot pilot? Biiig-Woow!

you can land on the mcc slowly with the bottom of your derpship and take minimal damage, but it will eventually and suddenly drop to 0 hp and explode, usually before you can recall it, and AS you're recalling it(hope you weren't in a scout thales suit!) as for rdvs they will usually instakill you but there are times(usually with a hardener on) when u can tap the rdv and get away with 200 hp. As for the reason this happens- in closed beta vehicles took very little collision damage and would stomp infantry like a giant foot, so they vastly increased collision damage to the point that tapping things is insta death.

As far as learning to be a successful DS pilot. I'd suggest getting a gorgon, putting a militia light rep on it and a cru on it and nothing else, fly around every single match and put that piece of crap dropship through every bit of treacherous horrid airspace you possibly can until you can play battle after battle with the same crappy gorgon. Once you get to where you don't restock that gorgon but once every 5 battles....you're ready.

Blasphemers! The lot of you!
Alright alright your witchcraft is real.
I still hate bumping into the MCC when I'm taking off drunk as a skunk. Then I yell terrible things at my TV. |

I too would love to k ow, as it different every time. I've landed and been instantly destroyed by the MCC, I've landed and 2 seconds after getting out it's been destroyed and ive had a rare moment where I've landed and actually recalled my DS

I even tried landing on top as a newb pilot, unknowing of MCC Godzilla anger. Insta death again.
Im also not hitting them at "ramming" speeds. I'm talkin like light as a feather taps.
Far too many players (calling ourselves "pilots") have the notion in our heads that we were able to pull of feats that "ya'll other players clearly lack the talent to do".... but believe me Daemonn, all that talk is RUBBUSH, and too many of us are flying legends in our own minds. I learned never to think of a DS as aircraft. It's a horse. You have to keep digging spurs to get it to do what you want, and constantly pulling on reins to keep it to stand still for a little while. If you're too gentle with a horse, it goes where it wants to, not where you want. It stops to eat when it wants---it wee-wees when it's inconvenient for you. If you're too mean with the horse---it will smack your head into a tree just to end the ride and get you off its back. Biiig-Woow! I like to think of it more as a giant, floating whale and I'm surfing while guiding it inside its mouth. Its stomach juices slosh and cause it to sway and list. My liquor calms it. I can then perform flips and rolls, avoiding the lightning fish that dart past me. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=i1Nh_3JCFj8&t=01m40s Anyone able to get in game and land on an MCC and provide pictures or a video? People keep saying its possible but I've never seen it or been able to do it. Perhaps somethings have changed in terms of collision damage, 4.5k EHP feels like I'm flying a paper mache dropship.
If you're trying to land on it en land on the very center top. They might have changed the collision damage since last I did it a year ago.

Because I tried to reach an insta death, but its impossible I think he said he's new to it, so what I'm guessing is that he doesn't have skill in the right places to avoid being quite so 'splody What skills would you recommend maxing out first for Incubus fits?
Forget the turret. Just use basic with the skill trained up. Get any fitting skills first to lvl three. If you get the fitting skills for armor you will be able to mount complex mods.
Get two hardeners and a rep for flying in and staying a bit.
Mount one hardener and two reps for in and out fast strike movement. Keep moving and don't go too close to buildings because the lag will cause you not to get feedback from swarmes until you are flying away and have it all catch up and alpha you.
Plates suck. Even with one complex rep you are gaining your armor back as you are flying away before a swarm contacts.
Mount a scanner to quickly fly in and spot targets as well as to assist your team. Otherwise, you won't believe how good a shield booster is to recover from a surprise hit. This way you can test an area and let them get a first shot on you.
Other than a booster, mount two adv scanners to have constant scan to go along with your hardeners.
I like to constantly be moving in, firing while moving and rotating around a target area so two hardeners with two scanners works great.
Remember, pop links first and formost on key building roofs.
If my team is down and I think we could make a good push then I'll get my Mil DS and use a scanner and mcru to stay near the objective area and spawn folks while also landing and popping links. Then whoever wants to gun can man my turrets and I'll hover down around the area for area of denial assists.
