It's not goofy or weird to instantly die striking the MCC or Balos (RDV) with your Dropship. There is a game logic to it. It's actually the equivalent of ramming an HAV or ramming a DS that has much greater armour hp than your DS.
The MCC has enormous armour hp, (the RDV is packed with some too). And it's just a rule you will come to learn as you get more advanced with your vehicle skills: In a hard impact, the vehicle with the greater armour will SHRED the vehicle with much less armour (even if your vehicle is stacked with a lot of SHIELD hp).
That explains why several players here are pointing out that LANDING on an MCC is perfectly possible, and used to be done a LOT. A slower gentle contact with the MCC is tricky, but not lethal. (Entering the MCC with a DS is also poss---oops, maybe I shouldn't be telling you that stuff, err, ugh.)
The point is, (changing the subject quickly...) as long as you don't knock into these service ships with any kind of speed, and you have generous armour on your DS, it's not an instant death----just an experience you don't want to repeat often.
Other experiences you want to avoid as a DS student are the Air-to-Air Weapons the MCCs are firing at each other---they are "Missiles" (which means they're designed to eat armour), and are exponentially more destructive than any missile we shoot from our HAVs and Installations. They ARE instant death if you happen to fly right in the path of one.
The Null Cannon PORT on the map is the same animal as the MCC-missiles. It's often hard to see, because it's not necessarily next to the Null panel. But it is a gun-muzzle firing a missile UP, then dropping DOWN onto an MCC. Five Null Letters on the map, means five muzzles planted on the map somewhere. DON'T carelessly swoop or hover over one----it's instant death, no matter what your armour.
Remember, SHIELD absorbs energy, but not physical impact. ARMOUR is what's needed to absorb physical blows. And nothing can easily absorb the physical blow of Null Cannon rounds and MCC hulls.

Daemonn Adima wrote:Well I've bumped the MCC from multiple angles and varying speeds and each time I instantly lost all my shield and armor. Its not like I run full speed into them, the slightest touch destroys me.
I even tried landing on top as a newb pilot, unknowing of MCC Godzilla anger. Insta death again.
Im also not hitting them at "ramming" speeds. I'm talkin like light as a feather taps.
Friggan CCP logic...
LOL, don't blame the CCP logic on this item. No, seriously. You don't know it, because you're a relatively new player, but you've chosen to play around with the HARDEST most frustrating item in the game...(many of us fell into the addictive trap of Drosphips, and drivers have got no one to blame but ourselves for persistently trying this thing that gets us mad). This game is supposed to be a foot-game. DS was never meant to be so popular and envious.
Far to many players (calling ourselves "pilots") have the notion in our heads that we were able to pull of feats that "you-all other players are clearly too untalented to do".... but believe me Daemonn, all that talk is RUBBUSH, and too many of us are legends in our own minds.
I learned never to think of a DS as aircraft. It's a horse. You have to keep pulling on reins to get it to do what you want, and tugging on it again to keep it standing in own place. If you're too gentle with a horse, it goes where it wants, not where you want. If you're too angry with the horse---it will smack you head into a tree just to get you off its back.
And your idea of "gentle stop" is never the horse's idea of gentle. You may THINK you're making the right kinds of touchdowns. But.....
But, most of all, my advice is DON'T take any DS player's suggestions that they are good, seriously. The GOOD players, don't even say it. The ones who seam to swagger every time they talk about the DS, don't rate passed shooting someone, hitting an afterburner, and using their hot air to successfully skirt injury.
That's a hotshot pilot? Biiig-Woow!
