some rambling in GD about it
It kills the fun for most players.. certainly those with low SP... why not make the change??
The best fittings have NO place in casual gamemodes.

There needs to be somewhere for players who don't want to go up against high end gear to fight. |

And let's face it.. the lower SP players outnumber the entitled stompers at this stage.

Because not all gear within a given tier is considered equal. Some gear has to be taken all the way up to proto just to be viable against other standard/advanced stuff. |

If standard/advanced weapons, equipment, or modules see much lower use than those at higher levels, that is a balance problem and is something that needs addressed.
Sounds like a double win in my book.

I'd prefer low tiered items to be removed.
Higher tier gear is more fun. Remove the lower trash, and make prototype the new basic; advanced the new militia, and Officer the new prototype.
Remember Chromosome, where proto gear was quite rare, and the most players used some combo of basic and advanced gear? I recall Chromosome, despite all its balance faults, to have the best, most enjoyable tier interplay. I'd like that to be recaptured, myself.
But to each their own. Relegating every pub-dweller to the least fun gear in the game is a sure-fire way to make DUST more fun...

Proposal:
2 types of pubs, one allowing only up to standard gear, and the other only from advanced and above.

On one hand I can see the "don't let people use elite gear against noobs" on the other for someone who didn't know about the skill tree, war barge, etc wondering how the same gun apparently does so ridiculously good against me but crap when I use it would really make me not want to keep playing.
At least with proto gear you can look up and see why it's outperforming you. So maybe I'm just back again with the rest complaining about the NPE? |

most of my suits run proto gear and rarley do they end up higher than 75....
my pro assault is meta 56 with almost full proto layout.
my logis how ever....they end up bieng somewhere between 80-90 meta.
now a fully complex tank is only around. 65-70 meta.
the preferd proto tank fit i run is only meta 43...........now if we cap battles.

Sorry, but this makes no sense... Proto is fun, because it melts militia. If you remove militia, most of the fun of proto is removed aswell!
I agree with D1ck, (mostly I don't) but in this case he's right.
I proposed it in the past, I'd limit pubs to all gear that needs LV4 to be unlocked. This would put proto and officer out of pubs, but would still allow to use special weapon variants, that get unlocked at LV4. Suits would be less tanky, since only advanced modules would be used. And proto equipment is not needed in pubs, that may suck for logis who don't want to loose their dual repper for those sweet wp, but there could be easyly a LV4 dual repper with lower reps per second made...
I have several very low SP alts, and I can tell you they are absolutely no fun to play. Fun starts at roughly 10mil SP, and only if you spend your skillpoints wisely (start with precision enhencement, range amp, and dampening...)
The NPE is killing fun for noobs, and that's the most important thing, that has to change in Dust!

The Corp UI fix for bugged applications, awesome, fast fix.. no issue..
Range stats added.. good addition..
I wonder where some of the worst gameplay imaginable comes into their list of priorities ?? That's exactly what a majority of Public Contracts (FW, and PC if the server makes it/the team actually show) offer
Some of these fine gentleman's ramblings are one of a list of things that could be done..
The real question is what is being done.. and when ??

I've posted in favour of ideas like this. However I didn't realise matchmaking was account based rather than character based. Perhaps matchmaking can keep up with player's ability to field good gear better than I thought. I've seen some videos recently of newer players, matches didn't seem too proto-riddled. I guess I should make a new PSN account to test properly. Not saying to give up on these ideas, but perhaps there is a more important solution:
I think perhaps the problem is more people's willingness to put up a fight. I was in a redline stomp yesterday on the redlined team. What was odd about this match was that the enemy team were all using low tier gear. They had starter fits and apex. A little advanced and almost no proto.
Ironically I started the match in a proto Min sentinel (testing my new lvl 4 skills and had some aurum salvage), but I instantly got wrecked by some guy in an Apex Gal assault with a BAR. Admittedly not a great example of gameplay on my part, but this guy was good (insert comment about OP Gal assaults).
Looking at the end of match screen, whilst the Gal assault guy was clearly a good player with most of the other team's kills, there didn't seem to be many other high scorers. I wouldn't have said they had particularly good players.
I finished top with 14 kills and 10 deaths, from pushing out of the redline and dying. Most of my team however had only 2 or less deaths. I counted 10 players who died 2 or less times, all with very few or no kills at all. A couple of others died 9 times with no kills.
What exactly were my team doing? I saw no evidence that my team were incapable of fighting, and the other team weren't using expensive gear or full of powerful slayers. Matchmaking was probably working fine and the teams had even potential. We were redlined all match simply because my team didn't try. We weren't even outnumbered.
Perhaps the solution to improve battles is to encourage fighting. I suggest rewards. Despite finishing the match with way more warpoints than anyone on my team, I didn't receive a great deal of payment. Maybe nobody on my team bothered because there just wasn't anything in it for them?
Anyone should be rewarded for going up against a stomp in cheap gear and fighting. CCP needs to stop tracking K/D and start rewarding fighting, especially against the odds. Going out and shooting dudes should result in much higher profit than hiding in the redline. That means payment - losses.
I'm not suggesting everyone should be compensated for losing a load of proto gear, but if you fight hard in cheap gear you should make substantial profits, regardless of if you are redlined or not. As for fighting a numerical advantage, if you are the only one on your team fighting you should get your whole team's payment, combined.
This might get people to fight. And if people actually try, matches will be a lot fairer and fun, regardless of what gear people use. |

Yeah... somethings gotta give.
NPE is suffering, and let's face it.... we're 10 players quitting from having no playerbase left smh?! We need the new players to stay!! BAD!!
Limiting the pubs won't really change much since the remaining playerbase practically all use mods, but atleast the new bros will get some kind of help... even if it's next to nothing.

Better way might be that a new bro Get pre skilled into a role and race and gets level 4 into that suit and 3-5 on skills supporting that role when you make a new character. Don't give them gear or items just skills to use them so they can earn adv. gear to not feel over whelmed. Keep both parties happy IMO.

In my opinion, the gear is just one point.
What really frustrates as a new player, ist the fact, that U usually get shot before you see the enemy (no active scans in your team). Most vets have E-War skills maxed, and see you through walls or even when you're behind them.
So if you see somebody as a noob, he's probably just waiting to wreck you...
Newbs need to be told to skill into E-war very early in the game, since it's essential, to use this build in wallhack.
Even an proto weapon, won't help you if you don't have the battlefield awareness that precision enhencement gives you.
