Dip in and out of cover til the user overheats or reloads, charge him after. If caught in the open and the user is close, charge him. If the user is fairly far, dont attempt to close the gap as you'll enter his optimal and melt.
Edit: Also dont run away from a close laser, or you'll also enter his optimal and melt. |

Agreed, the laser already suffers damage loss at range and CQC. Nerfing range would simply ruin the weapon. |

Stay under cover until he stops firing, use that window to fire back, if he is firing somewhere else you might peek out and attack, but if he swings his heated laser over you might get whiped out before you have a chance to duck back again.
The real way to stop it is to emulate it and do it better. Welcome to laser weaponry. |

Lasers have a very narrow band of optimal performance, and a narrow time frame that they can apply serious damage (close to overheating / running out the clip).
Simply stay out of line of sight during that short window, and try to move out of that narrow band of range. If you can get in close they will lose against any armor suit. (Shields will still have a good chance as well though)
The laser has serious drawbacks, but balances this (in theory) with superb cover fire that will force enemies to ground or die. Just make sure you aren't poking your head up during it's fire and you will be fine.
Ultimately just learn to respect the weapon as it can melt you. Treat it like you would a sniper... with a bright highly visible beam.

Officer lasers are supossed to be OP.
That said, i always find the best ways to learn to counter any given opponent is to spc into it, play it a bit and learn about the weaknessess.
Use cover. As obvious as it sounds, lasers are not going to be charging in and around corners the way RRs CR or ARs will. Keep some obstacles between the Laser and you, and try to keep the fight CQC. If you know one is on the field think twice befroe crossing any open terrain.
Lasers are generally very inaccurate with a controller. A little zig zag goes a long way towards making them overcompensate. I dont mean danceing in the open, but it will buy you some time when peeking around corners.
Snipers and forge guns are pretty good vs lasers. Lasers tend to stand still when firing, because they are trying to track long range tagets by aiming down sights. They aren't difficult to spot, given away by that massive laser pointer. You can pop out behind cover and one hit kill any amarr assault. Or tac snipe them, if not out right kill them make them think twice about poping thier heads out.
Shotgun/ Nova Knifes scouts also work very well. Cloak up to cross open areas, flank, and hit the assault while he's shooting someone else.

On the train map I landed on one of the two buildings over looking the depot and began lasering the reds coming down from their ridge in the redline. Shortly later an officer laser smacks me down to 50 hp as i take cover : I had selected the building with the anti mcc turret on it just in case this happened and it saved my life. So, keeping the turret armor between him and I, I continued to laser his dudes >:D

Hehe... This reminds me of you trying to knife me in your Minja suit in my calass... Fun times... We got redlined though... :( Yeah, had to switch it up and kill you and your buddies with an Amarr suit. Buddy* only one in my squad was Beast ESD1.
yeah, and I think he got it worst than you, with his Mk. 0 assault with an assault rifle. don't know what that was about. A combat rifle would have ate me alive. any we are derailing this thread, it was a fun fight and you guys didn't give up. 07.

Those pesky Victors users can hold their beam for so long you'll think they're almost done or focused somewhere else and them suddenly they'll swing the beam over to you and eviscerate you because the dmg is so high by then.

Ever killed a madrugar tank with a laser rifle? I have, somehow. Guess the tank was on its last bit of HP and the game decided I should have the kill.

All of this talk and so far I cant really see anyone calling for nerfs that I have ever seen using them. LR`s are fairly rare to see on the battlefield, their rarity only surpassed by under-performing sidearms and grenades.
Let me give you some advice about fighting lasers.
If they are the campy laser type - use a forge gun and wipe them out the easy way.
If they are proficient and moving positions you may try the forge gun or LR yourself but remember that you can time precisely when the enemy is going to be dealing high damage. Catch that laser inbetween cycles and you will most certainly have the DPS advantage with other rifle weapons. Not only that but as you get into close range it gets exponentially harder to hit with the LR.
NEVER TRY TO RUN THROUGH OPEN GROUND TO FIGHT A LASER. (Unless you are something a bit special [PewPew mofo] or a maniac)
Trust me I have tried a little hip firing the LR at close range and its damn hard to pull off. |

Yeah, the best feeling is flanking with a laser and nuking those 4 guys that are suppressing the push onto the objective. Good times! I wish I had bought thousands of Viktors before the new nerf to Officer weapon generation, but atleast I have a contact who has thousands of them in his inventory. |
