If I'm a Mercenary why can't I take jobs intended to be done solo?
If any of you can answer that I'd be amazed as it's clearly never crossed anyone's mind but mine..
You see if you'd catered for solo and casual players and gave them something to get a break from constant squadding your player base would've been much larger, which means more money for ccp, which means more investment in game production, which means quicker hotfixes and improvements with more staff, which means a better game, which means even more people play it, which restarts the cycle...
That's basic business and not just CCP or CPMs but alot of the stubborn vets are to blame for not following this simple rule
I work all day talk to colleagues, friends family clients, sometimes I wanna play dust and just chill and not have to talk or delve into deep tactics... At this point some vet will respond saying 'go play another game, in dust you HAVE TO SQUAD' and the problem is... People do go play other games.. Honestly I think the bitter vets are the problem N have too much influence on the direction this game has gone down... Feels to much like cod with higher ttk and much less balance in matchmaking.. Where's the depth we were promised? Even cod has pve lol

That moment when I spent well over a year playing Solo in this game and never once did I feel the need to sqaud up. Unless I was drunk. It wasn't until a month ago that I started doing squad play again. I still run solo from time to time though.
Thing is, solo is difficult if you do not know what you are doing and don't put yourself out there. You need to fit your suit just right, and you need to think tactically. There is a lot of depth in solo play in Dust. However if you are using the CoD mentality of "rush and gun YOLO", you are going to suffer greatly.
And here's the kicker. I solo as a Gallente Sentinel and I go positive almost all the time. Before I joined T-W-L and put my solo career behind me, I had a KD/R of 1.72 and Lifetime WP of over 1.2mil. Not bad for a solo scrub sentinel who took a 4 month break.
Edit: Did I also mention I am casual as f.ck? Between work and family, I barely get time to play Dust or any of my games. Hell, I doubt I'll be getting my kills done for my respec, but thats alright.

Question: WHAT KIND OF GAMEPLAY CAN I EXPECT IN DUST 514? Answer: Combat in DUST 514 is tactical and squad-based

I've played solo until I just before I got my Corp stolen. It's almost coincidental that that's when the game started to F up. Solo was never bad... I used to do it all the time. It's just now that the game is so out of control.

I love you Ripley, and... you're right... but, you're talking about what Dust IS, and OP's talking about what it should be, or what it could be. And I think PVE definitely fits into the bigger picture of what Dust has always been aimed toward. Don't you?

I do agree to a certain extent. I have always been a solo player prior to playing DUST and, while I do enjoy sometimes squadding with like-minded people, that's usually only 1-2 people max at a time and I don't want to be in a squad 24/7 or face squads 24/7.
With all that being said, I don't think that has been the main problem. I think the problem is that it's either you're up against a squad with blueberries on your team not doing much of anything or you're part of the team with the squad that's organizing efforts against players that get easily pawned.
I like challenges, but there is a line; battles you'd be a fool to engage in because there isn't really much of anything you can do when other people on your team either do not have the capabilities to do anything or are just not skilled players. Matchmaking is the big problem.
Squads should be in place to go against other squads and if matchmaking could be engineered to put people with squads made up of 3 people or less or who are solo in organized matches, then it would be okay. Then you have to keep in mind the skill gap between newer players, vets, and middle children. |

Hell, I think some form of manufacturing/industry should be as well... albeit not as deep as the Eve Online players' system.
But OP was getting all weepy about soloing and I had to remind him that in it's current form Dust is not balanced so much around soloing as squads. If we ever get a port we can discuss the various PvE options we could pursue...

If games are unbalanced because of solo players, and they have no place in the game, then they/we should just not be allowed to play. And you people who only love to squad can play with each other, and you can see those numbers drop (which is ironic given you created a whole thread about how you hated to see numbers drop).
IF however, both solo AND squad should be viable play styles, then something needs to be addressed. That means that the "this game is a team game" talkers need to recognize that solo players make up a significant minority, if not a majority of Dust players, and that any good business needs to address those customers, and make sure that their product takes them into account as well, or again, just be honest and tell them they aren't wanted, so that we can at least know that we are wasting our time hoping that we can some day enjoy the game whether or not we decide to squad.

Me run solo. And WILL do so till I stop playing. Squad play is overrated. Here is an example. I loaded up in a standard Caldari scout. Start ganking peeps. Another solo shotgun scout sees what I am doing and we proceed to use each other for bait and lure entire squads into traps. We both combined for OVER 50 kills and we won the match against Proto stompers.
Running Solo is not for everyone but it will turn you into a badass If you can learn from it that is.

Sorry to read you frustration, Rinzler. There's only one reason I know, for Eve Dust 514 being prejudiced against solo-play: The Developers WANTED a truly team-based, player co-op, "must work together to surmount obstacle" game, where players NEED other players, if they want to achieve certain goals. (This even mirrors the intention for the parent game EVE Online to NEED Dust players to achieve goals that the Eve players can't do on their own).
That task is not easy for players to do. Least of all Playstation gamers (who are used to ALL our so called "team-based", "co-operative" games just being a bunch of solo players pointing their guns and running in the same direction---never really NEEDING to have anything more in common than that). ...Now let's face it. If this game were not so slanted towards team-play, if it were more solo-accessible, you'd burn throw this like we did all the other PS shooters (even Destiny). You'd "beat" the game in a matter of days, and move on to something else, leaving Dust in your wake (Ha, get it? "Dust" in your wake?" )
The boldest thing this CCP team ever did (next to Aim-Assist), is make this a truly co-operative gameplay title. It's where munchkins can kick the giant's booty (but MUST join forces to do so, or face being repeatedly stomped). It's where the "Sniper" role isolates a player so far from any important human interaction that we'll find him lying on his rifle having deliberately suicided on sleeping pills. It's where the ONLY way you can climb any further than FW warfare pleasure, is to socialize with other players, and wheel-n-deal you way into gaining money-friends or making the right connections. You MUST interact with other players, and SELL the value of your Mercenary skills to other players, in order to get very far in this game.
That doesn't mean you CAN'T survive and build something for yourself playing SOLO. You can unlock all the stuff (it just involves a ton more frustration trying to build your SP by doing "on my own" stuff). You can get very rich with ISK (you just can't become AFFLUENT, where you have enough excess to partner with other players, fund and donate fledgling corps or buddies, replace whol fleets of HAVs the way Capsuleers replace a lost POS). "Solo" just means, in this game you can't excel anywhere as quickly as if you perfected social teamplay.
....But you never wanted to be a social superstar in this game, anyway, did you? Not solo players. You never wanted the BIGGER piece of cake in this game. You just wanted the smaller piece of cake. The "Lone FPS Shooter-Ace" piece. LOL, well here you go! You've got the smaller PIECE!
....Wha--wait, is that your tummy grumbling?
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...

Reality. People who enter a free to play game on the whole enter solo. They are put on teams and effectively play as a squad regardless of level of communication or preplanned cooperation.
Nowhere does the literature say compulsory organized play. Public contracts are gen pop. There must be somewhere that is an entry point for players. That means certain restrictions need apply to allow the new, solo or casual player to have fun without the push, push, push of power playersGǪ and their toxic attitudes and tendencies toward FOTM, mechanics exploiting behavior.

I have to agree, the entry point for many players into New Eden will be solo. If we don't collectively acknowledge that simple fact and provide entertaining, quality and engaging paths(note the plural, plz) to higher level gameplay then DUST will die a death born of our own stupidity.

Now let me ask you this. How often lately have you seen Black ops 3(or whatever # its on now) advertised? Whether it be tv, magazines, stores and such. It friggin everywhere. CCP never did this, nor do I think they ever will.
Now if they did, could you imagine the number of people it could bring in? Then look at all the advantages those #s would bring. And those #s are there, fps' are one of the largest segments of console gaming.
-NPE increase. How, you may ask? Well, if there is a sizable increase in players it would mean newbros/gals would run into us vets far less often.
-Us vets would still have plenty of newbs to put in thier place(this would be for the stompers)
-More players means more potential $$$ for CCP to garner. (You think newbs dont buy skins too? Or AUR for keys?)
-More money would mean CCP management starts taking notice of Dust, and might just might make them decide to invest more into the game to push it forward.
