Well I guess I read this post for this long might as well add my 2 cents of nothing. 1- if someone is roof camping, do something about it! 2- if a team is spawn killing, don't spawn there! 3- no one said this game was easy, and I get my ass stomped too every now and then. 4- get creative the way to get better is to learn from getting smoked. I have come a long way in 6 months. I do feel like I deserve to use my pro if I'm getting hit with the same gear. But I have never cried about it! I like this game even if I get pit in lopsided battles. Make suits to match your situation, I learn more everyday! |

I have to agree with Attorney General. If something obviously isn't working out, then switch what you're doing to offset it. If they're camping the CRU, spawn in the redline, hop in a dropship, and go get an uplink on the other side, or run a link through the outskirts of the map.

F***k all tht ballony shite lets all leave for MGSV tpp n mgo3 where hit detection is OP af, a sniper shot in a troops helmet ( him surviving) or below the helmet ( face, below ears, neck/ instant death) can cost you the entire battle not some 3 shots in a ak.0s head before he dies bs, I mean alll the bugs errors and issues aside the game isnt based n built right, nothing been polished nthn is reinovated and I assure u it will b like this for a really long long time why bother with ewar when in another realistic tactical stealth simulator your radar n minimap can pop interference and disturbance made by other players making scouts/infiltrators a serious thing not run up behind somebody or go full fledge full scale jump on them n murder them all, it's all bad stuff really the only thing tht would make u keep playing is the ppl u run with cz its smtimes fun convo n hilarious things |

It applies to every game. The author is most experienced with Street Fighter, but the philosophy behind it doesn't change.
You don't always have to play to win, and there are times where exploring sub-optimal strategies is beneficial, but when you decide it is winning time, you don't take concern with how your enemy is going to feel.
The whole book is available on that site, and should be mandatory reading for anyone who wants to be the best they can be at games.
Not everyone is going to play to win, of course, and not everyone has to, but understanding that those who play to win don't care about how it feels to get stepped on, and shouldn't because it inhibits getting better is important to the discussion at hand.
Pretty much any player in a corp in PC should be playing to win most of the time, which is why games turn out how they do.
Now, look at some of the posts by the "scrubs" in this thread, and they literally cover every excuse listed in the chapter on losers/scrubs. These attitudes are not unique to dust, nor are the complaints. That you can find word for word copies of the complaints about a 20 years old fighting game should make it clear that this really isn't about a single mechanic, but rather the mindset of the people losing to it.

I wanted to add that I am very clearly not saying dust is perfect, nor am I saying that mechanic x doesn't need work, however the OP and other scrubs don't come to the forums looking for advice, they come to impose their vision of the game rules on others rather than improve, or admit that they are not as good as they think they are. Being able to know the difference between a bad mechanic(by which I mean genuinely unbalanced, or having a completely distorted skill/power ratio) and poor or incorrect counter play is critical to getting better, and also to giving meaningful feedback.
With online games that get patched, bad mechanics can be identified and changed, but that can never happen without "tryhards" pushing the limit and forcing people to counter their play. When the response is just qq instead of a reasoned approach, no progress can be made to make the game more enjoyable and able to support high level play.
As an example, last night I was in a squad with some people and the jumpy suits got brought up because someone got killed by them. Immediately the conversation progressed into mechanic changes that would change the scenario for the better, rather than simply labelling that opponent a scrub and dropping it. Stamina changes, disabling turns in the air, adding an accuracy debuff after a jump where all discussed. That is competitive players who dislike a mechanic talking about it without resorting to scrub excuses.
I know that dust has mechanics problems, and I am not saying that parts of the game might not be in need of overhauls, but people who say things like "that's cheap" or that a tactic "takes no skill" have the completely wrong mindset about competitive games.

To those who can't read, Press Attache is The Attorney General, an old PC tanker from FA.
He's probably better at this game than most of you, and like me, is of the mentality that anything not listed as an exploit is a valid tactic.
At the end of the day, whining about people using tactics you can't beat gets you nowhere. You wanna be the best? Stop making excuses and start making progress.
Oh, and read this article as well. While Attorneys was a bit more informative, I prefer the satirical. The picture at the start sums it up the best for me. Make sure to read the links at the bottom as well. Street fighter is brought up constantly because of its eSports background and popularity.
If its in the game and not expressly declared an exploit, its fair f*cking game.
EDIT: A little bit of insight from OUR point of view.
Imagine you walked into work and saw a friend trying to drive in a nail.
Except he is trying to drive it in with his bare hand.
Obviously, it isn't working out too well. You hear him curse and complain about this stupid freaking nail.
You notice a hammer sitting right next to him. You tell him to use the hammer.
He refuses, saying "That's too easy dude, requires no skill at all"
And then he keeps trying to drive in a nail with his bare hand.
Me at that moment
You have all of these TOOLS at your disposal to help you fix problems you find in the game. Rooftop camping? Grab a cheap dropship, get a heavy and pay them a visit. Jumpy mass drivers? Give them some space so they don't jump on your noggin and mow them down as they float.
Never just complain about the tactic, SIT DOWN AND THINK ABOUT HOW TO COUNTER IT.
You can't EVER control THEM. You CAN control how you REACT TO IT.
Right now all you're trying to do to react to it is COMPLAIN.

As a final point for the people who haven't been around dust for as long as some others, let me relate the story of PC and the god mode flaylock.
When it was first released, the flaylock was absurdly powerful. When used by skilled players it so vastly outclassed anything else, that there was literally no point in not having one equipped, and players in PC immediately recognized how it broke the gameplay, especially in PC.
The end result was that the teams in PC voluntarily banned it in PC's because of how detrimental it was to gameplay until it got nerfed. It wasn't that it was cheap, or took no skill, but that it was so vastly overpowered that by using it, you forced the other team to respond in kind and the match would always devolve into core flaylocks everywhere, which made the game dull and boring. It was tested, people with lots of gun game tried to find counters and couldn't. It didn't happen right away, but after a couple of weeks it became clear that it was so optimal that if you wanted to win you had to have at least one flaylock, and even abandoning your primary to run two flaylocks was a thing, because of the sheer power of the flaylock at the time.
That was broken, and it got changed once the devs saw that it was creating degenerate gameplay. But it wasn't changed because of scrubs in the forums crying cheap, it was changed because players could demonstrate that without running flaylocks it was an assured loss. Data from PC matches backed it up, and usage in pubs was out of control.
So there have been broken things in dust, but camping a rooftop or cru has never been one of them.

Back when the Min Assault had a full sidearm bonus to all weapons. Ran 2x flaylocks for 8 rounds total. Fused nades to go with.
Dear god I'm glad the PC community banned that.
I remember spending AUR to buy Proto flaylocks and fused nades since my toon was too young to have them skilled.
That's how bad it was. I still have 88 fused locus nades sitting in my inventory after the nerfs
