I agree with you but there needs to be a new way around the leave battle button other than just proper skill based battles.
I am willing to bet players wont leave a battle near as often if the leave battle button does not appear until half way through the battle.
Honestly the best option is to make the leave battle button only appear once a teams MCC shield has depleted.
This way they are far enough into the battle where they have earned wp and it might not make sense to leave anymore. It would be past that initial leaving point where the player might just say ahhh i mine as well stay and get my isk payout even if they are losing.

People will get around it by afking, after about 2 minutes regardless if the fight is halfway through or not, it kicks you out for not doing anything

They aren't looking for solutions , hell this idea isn't even a Band-Aid it's just flat out stupid .
When your in a situation like this where people are running from the cause and effect of a topic like , " Why do people leave battles ? " and you have players stating why from , having to attend to their children , wives , pets , just because they were placed into a match where their on a team of random players and the enemy team has one or two Q 'd stomp squads ( everyone doesn't have to be a glutton for punishment because YOU choose to be , CHOOSE means choice which your trying to take away from others ) and they just don't care to go threw the motions ... people have been saying reasons but some just are not getting it , some get DQ'd , hard freeze during matches and other game related internal issues on top of the now wear and tear of these types who don't care about your investment and now want you to continually turn your game off and on to leave battles , anyone with common sense realize that these people are running from cause and effect , they want to dictate their own rules on the community now and it's not like what their suggesting is actually going to help the game more then hinder it , it won't help retain numbers or help them to grow and in any case , it just promotes one to sit there threw repeated stomps , it's just foolish to even go back and forth with these types because they won't even notice the flaws in their proposals , nor do they care about what you think , have to go threw or feel .

Yes thats a big issue, i hear you. afking should be set so players will only be kicked for an afk once a teams mcc shield has depleted.

Players will always leave battles, the only real solution is to introduce skill based matchmaking, make battles only leave able once half way through.
Meaning fair fights and less people leaving. sure you will get those leave cause they really have to go or do something in real life but you wont have those players leaving because they dont like the map or their team!

Regardless of the intention of the "fixes" you guys are attempting to pass off. All your really doing is proving that you really don't care how new players are treated as long as your fights aren't boring or as long as you get to kill something.
Otherwise you wouldn't be trying to justify forcing players to get raped for your own amusement. If you really did care, you would be trying to fix the very route cause of the problem. And the cause of new players leaving is because proto stomps constantly annihilate them and don't give a rats ass about if this game survives or not. Proto stompers are the reason for new players quitting dust. If your going to force someone into a situation where they can't ever win, they will simply give up and find something else. How the **** do none of you understand this?

I am not sure if you confused me somewhere along the lines but yes I agree battles should be skill based as said in my previous post i feel bad slaughtering a whole squad of academy players using only a nano hive.
I do not enjoy killing new players as I know it will only hurt their new perspective on the game, however they are being put into my battles and that should never happen.
Skill based matchmaking pretty please.
But honestly I see this topic is very back and forth from both directions.
I am mean when I first started the game as noob ya things were a little rough but look now 100 mil sp.
Dangit this is too much to handle. I now feel bad for ccp.

Void Echo - You don't know me very well if you think I want to **** new players. I am trying to stop that by keeping the vets in battles with other vets. When you join a game and the half your team that is vets leave because as you stated, they are fighting "superior" players, the new players do not know who any of these corporations are and they stick it out in militia. Then they really get stomped in a 6 to 16. Keeping those vets in will force them to fight it out without defending their KDR.
I have trained more new players than anyone I know. I am constantly jumping into random squad finders and leading groups. Teaching squad lead commands Hell, I am driving my corp to PC by going back into FC which hurts my brain so badly!
You are a vet so step back and think about what is more likely occurring: 1. Vets see other vets and abandon (I have seen this and it pisses me off) (I lose so many fights to this) 2. Newbs see vets, get stomped, and realize the Leave button even exists then go start a new match (I didn't know about the button until I was queue syncing)
Everyone on this forum knows it is #1. Sorry, you are fighting for new players in the wrong direction, but I love the passion. Removing the "Leave" button is a step in the direction of stopping vets from padding and isk farming pubs. Skill based match making only works if the vets are willing to fight each other. They would rather harvest games for isk.

Remember my other idea... Remove fire team sized squads so pubs have no squads. No squads no stomp. Team chat is still there but no shared passive scans ( enormous advantage if your logi scans at 24 do out to 50m ), no 20% bump to wp towards orbitals. The advantages make pubs easy pickings.

You realize that taking squads out completely would just completely shut pubs down right? Look what 4 man squads has done to search times already.

Removing squads wouldn't destroy the game, since taking them to 4 didn't really do that. I would want team chat turned back on. I just know with some older players intolerance for squeakers and voice changers would want a mute everyone button. I just would want to be able to use leadership to do something. OBs would have to be based on individuals. That could be interesting! All these back out fairies who say they make 1k wp each match even when being stomped would really feel the hurt. I would really want some warbarge time if we went the team only route. Otherwise it would be a giant free for all as we hit the ground. Transport, turret manning, and logi-ing the designated player would not happen. That removes a lot of play styles.
