Just did an FW battle with Ghost Kaiser, Booby Tuesday, and some others. We were cloaked for an extremely long time after spawning, then rubber-banded back to our spawn areas. Rubber-banding continues to happen a couple more times, and there was some pretty bad lag Frame rate issues were extremely awful, and made fighting in any sort of engagement pointless. Once battle is over, I get an internal error.
This is not acceptable, but I'm sure you guys have some line about how you already resolved the server issues, and I'm sure you won't bother acknowledging the frame rate issues. Frame rate was actually pretty close to perfect in Warlords 1.1, and the best I've ever see in Dust's history, good job ruining it.
Oh great! I can't connect to Dust anymore! just endless loading circle with (CONNECTING... Attempting to login ...) Success, logged in, after like 3 minutes. Oh, tried to login to character, and another endless loading circle. Just perfect.

I have reached to our live team and they are proposing a few scenarions for this specific issue. (we have seen your vid.me video https://vid.me/XGYC regarding FW framerate drops) Here are some cases that we would like to see:
Case 1: Use the same PS3, play a few Skirmish battles, record a video and send us the link.
Case 2: 1.Find a different PS3 (that is newer and doesnGÇÖt have any disk issues). 2.Play a few FW battles on that PS3 and note the performance. 3.Record a video and send us the link.
If this is possible, this would pinpoint the issue further. The video that you shared with us recently does indicate that there may be some issue with the hard drive because we had similar issues with faulty hard drives, but that's just our guess right now.
Thank you!

@Frame - you think it's an issue with the hard drive, specifically?
What about lag on SSD systems and systems with brand new hard drives?

Yeh I keep getting lag which throws me through staircases and knocks me off of buildings when I'm not even moving. The lag is so bad it moves me when I'm not moving, it rubber-bands me to places where I never even set foot.
My PS3 does overheat and my internet sucks, in the heat of a battle I don't stop to think about the temperature or how many people are using my internet. |

Wow.
Thanks for fullfiling my expectations frame ;)
On topic - people I squad with who use SSD still experience occasional slideshows, althought that's only anecdotal evidence..
I had my HDD changed about 1,5 year ago so I guess that's not "fresh" enough.
Framerate issues? almost every match. I'm actually happily surprised if the game doesn't lag/drop framerate..

The more videos/examples of fresh systems (with or without SSD) would be useful. We don't mind more material to take a look at as long as it contributes to the investigation. But yes, the current theory does include issues with hard drive, but does not exclude other options.

We have seen this video as well. Thank you. However, we also could use some info on non-FW matches as well as other sources/hardware that we mentioned previously if we want to get to the bottom of this behavior.

I'll see if I can get my capture card working then.
I have a 9 year old 'old faithful' PS3 with its out of the box HDD and I have a newer model with an SSD. Loading into matches is vastly quicker in the SSD PS3 but I still get crippling lag at times.
New gear for the recording setup is arriving soonish, though, so hopefully I'll be able to get some recordings.
I can share some random player theories on lag as well, if you like. Most of these are anecdotal and I'm certain that at least some are myths, but here's what I've heard thrown around (and haven't been able to disprove personally).
1. Entering and exiting a major map socket ("the city") increases risk of lag (Anecdotally, my attempted tests seemed to corroborate this but I don't know if it was confirmation bias, the natural increase in lag as matches go on, or an actual positive result). 2. Having two squads of 8 is preferable to having 1 squad of 16 in PC (I'm dubious on this one). 3. Having fewer fittings reduces lag - this includes vehicle fittings. 4. Getting triaged from the spawn screen and not the death screen has a tendency to induce lag (I frequently get lagspikes when this happens, but I'm not sure if it increases lag as I've heard. Personally untested.)
There are more and I can update later, but those are off the top of my head.

Additional video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pF20z-acrSII would like to note that having run in PC circles with some people running literally brand new SSD systems lag still cripples entire teams. There may well be some problems rooted in the hard drive (and certainly SSD systems yield some improvements) but I highly doubt it's all of them.
If you want, I can roll with you and use my capture card. I have a PS3 Slim that's just over three years old (got it specifically for Dust 514) with the stock hard-drive.

I'm getting one anyway, so might as well.
It also enables actual counting of the frames. Speaking of which, I find it mildly entertaining that CCP Frame is addressing the issue of having single frames.
EDIT: Frame, I notice you specifically say 'framerate drops in FW battles'. Have you noticed problems specifically with these or is this a full-scale anti-lag campaign in all modes?

Well, it would seem that players are reporting FW matches having problems more than regular pubs. But if you do encounter similar performance in pubs as well drop us links of those as well. We are not going to complain!
Also, note your character name within your videos and date/time of that gameplay. That would also help a lot. :)

What about PC? Pedantry on which gamemode, I know, but there is still absolutely crippling lag in PC matches.
At 21:00ish EVE time there was a Nos Nothi vs Ultimate Spawn PC match I participated in where the lag was utterly ruinous. At the time I was running the PS3 from a fresh database rebuild and IIRC a fresh hard reset - no matches were played before the match.
Initially there weren't many framerate problems but as the match went on it ramped up heavily until I was unable to successfully fire my weapon.
Apologies that I don't have a video of lag in this. There's a non-laggy one out there of someone playing in 480p I think though?
Are you interested in videos of lag in 480p? It goes a long way to reducing lag but doesn't always eliminate it.

Generally any video of any performance issue similar to the one originally shared (very low FPS) is helpful. Being PC/FW/Pub. As long as we can get some info on EVE Time and Characters affected we are happy campers! So hit us up.

I know I'm being super pedantic here but it's because I want to help, really.
Specifically, all you require is info on EVE time and characters affected and not necessarily (although beneficial if possible) video footage?
I can bring very long lists of lag incidents if video footage isn't required.

Addendum on the PC match I earmarked as a lagmatch - I was not the only player lagging. Not all players were lagging either, though.
Here're some other perspectives.
Adipem Nothi (Participated in match under character name Shotty GoBang) wrote: Good show, Raiders. Lag cost us that match.
From my perspective, the match played very smoothly for the first half and seemed to degrade from that point forward. Toward the end, my screen was refreshing about once per second and I was unable to even open menus. Found the lag to be equally bad both inside and outside the city. Spawned in our ground spawn at the very end of the match to try to get the warbarge menu up; it was even laggy way out there with no one else around.
Here's a non-lagging perspective from character J0LLY R0G3R playing in 480p: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8zqVP-3SmFY
Unfortunately I don't have a comms log but I'm not sure how helpful our collective bitching about lag would be, anyway.

Would like to drop in and note that it's Skirmish itself that usually brings about the slideshow. All those null cannons, everything constantly getting hacked. I can play other game modes for several hours with little to no issue, and Skirmish sort of "triggers" the downhill slope into unplayability. That's how it goes in my experience.

I very rarely get frame rate drops since I switched to a SSD. PC is really the only place I still get it and some how it is bad enough to make the game unplayable. On the off chance I get any frame rate drops in FW it is usually just a quick stutter and then back to normal.
My system is the ultra slim. My SSD is a Samsung 840 pro 128 gb.

According to my experience there is no big difference between Skirm and Dom. However, as you say, it's quite possible more smoke effects (null missiles) might do their small part.

Obviously not the issue here for everyone but when was the last time you deleted and reinstalled Dust? It is best practice to delete and reinstall some time very soon after each update as that extra data seems to pile up and cause issues of its own.

18 months. Yea maybe that is a long time and I should do it. I'm now REALLY considering buying a second PS3 and bolting fresh HD on it. That would give more comparison possibilities, including old and new install side to side, maybe even in the same match.
