Okay so the new matchmaking was supposedly supposed to stop protostomping. I actually convinced one of my friends to play this game and he created a merc on his PS3. So I was with him walking through with him on how to play and some good strategies. He decided to go with the Amarr Assault Scrambler Rifle Combo. With Standard Dropsuit and weapons with militia modules after his first battle out of the academy, he saw people running gk.0 logis and mk.0 assaults. He was playing on a team with only newberries against protostompers running only proto and officer gear. He quit after the first battle after going 0/30 and getting spawn camped.

He should find a new friend. Friends don't let friends drink & Dust.

Was he in your squad? If so you probably dragged him into the higher tier matches. If not. Well we all know that matchmaking is terrible.

Sadly his is not a unique experience.
Hopefully he can come back and play a few games where he doesn't get stomped. |

I think he has to accept that unfair teams happen. It happens in most online games.
From what I hear, and my experience, one sided stomps are less common than they used to be. |

If you were with him, you could have warned him that a lot of red dots around a spawn point is usually a bad sign, and told him not to spawn there. Also, "quit after his first game after the Academy". We all have bad games. If you let him quit because of one bad game, I would find him a new teacher.

I like the part when the OP says, "so he decided to go with Amarr with SCR" right after talking about matchmaking and protostomping.
How ironic.

Firstly, let me get my laugh out of the way, for Sheriff Joe----your post caught me. So silly,GǪ but darned great line!
Err--um. Okay,GǪ I met a player on the local chat a few nights ago, and he gave the perfect term to describe what Dust felt like back in 2011 - 2013. The term was "SUPER BRUTAL". And, no joke, this game was that rough. You felt proud if you just survived a match with less than 15 deathsGǪ.forget thinking about killing anyoneGǪ ...except the walk-assisted mercs holding canes, GǪ.and Lav-casualties you came across on the sides of the roads, who were just pleading "please, don't let my wife find out I died like thisGǪjust finish me off quick."
Every match, the gunfire was always off in the distance, and you were always running to try to catch up to it,GǪ and you were regularly bumping over these bodies of shot players here and there. Disturbing in a game! Then comes the sound of a fast-moving Lav, or the whiz of a sniper round,...AND YOU'RE BACK AT SQUARE ONE AGAIN, spawning at the blue staging area. I don't blame any of the players who said, "wha?---FORK this, you think I'm gonna go through this kinda humiliation repeatedly in a game---I'm taking my arse back to SOCOM-3."
I think it's the memory of that fearful experience (an experience found in NO other fps, ever), that made players demand SOME kind of Matchmaking. And now that we have it, players have an expectation that the Matchmaking should "completely" sterilize their match, and ensure it's bunny-vs-bunny, alligator-vs-alligator, bear-v-bear. Anything uneven, means this match is unfair.
BUT, there are just as many players who (me too) feel that "everything even" makes the match become under-thrilled and lukewarm, and that there should always be SOME amount of bunny-bites-bear, alligator-vs-bear, alligator-frightens-bunny. I am one who has seen my name explode on the end-of-match screens since the new matchmakingGǪ and I worry if the game has now gotten too bunny-easier for everybody.
Do you WANT to fail 25 times before finally feeling the joy of heroically surmounting Mt Pachitoo? Or do you want 20 sherpas to literally carry you up and spray sweat-beads on your forehead to fabricate the ILLUSION of an heroic feeling?
GǪI don't think the Matchmaking system should change anymore, beyond just maintenance and tweaks.
Maybe because I survived through the "Super-Brutal" phase, I have a personal wish for SOME (meaning not all, but a scary dose) of the original "brutality" is preserved in the game. I know a game is meant for me to escape and unwind from the pressure of work/life, and is not supposed to fill me with MORE frustration and pressure. But Dust is the one game my sweetie introduced me to that makes you feel kinda cool to finish a session like you're hands hurt, and you climbed successfully out of burning aircraftGǪ. lost four mercs on your squad, but saved two.
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...

(Not counting NF Q'syncs) This is just my experience but I've been here for three years. This is the worst I've ever had, but them again, this new matchmaking is very poor for higher up players.

Matchmaking simply can't work with so few players there is nothing to add. It just forces you to fight the same ***holes again and again and make the Q times much longer. MM is the worst thing that happened to Dust (talking from a veteran point of you, maybe the scrubs get stomped less often and enjoy more the game now)
The main problem is that veterans are boring to fight. Most of them fight only if they can get easy win/kills and are cowards. Roof camping has probably been multiplied by 3 in the games I play when MM came out |

I kind of miss the instant battles they had in the special contracts a few weeks ago.
They seemed to be pretty good fights somehow.
I do still see more good games than I did before MM, which was next to none.
Still lots of stomps, but that seems to have a lot to do with people leaving or getting booted. I don't know what the ratio of those two would be.
I would just really like an incentive to stay and fight even during a stomp, and maybe people would stick around a little.

They would stick and hide somewhere. Payouts should be much higher for people that actually try to fight and much lower for cowards. That's the main reason of stomping, it's not proto gear nor uneven teams, it's one team not trying and so the other one can advance without true opposition. This has ever been the probelm of Dust and MM can't change that even if it was working properly (again I don't think the algorithm is bad or that kind of flaw, the player base is just too small).
I've played Space Marine for years, it's far to be perfect, there was no MM but games were much funnier and stomps much rarer just beccause people actually try to fight |
