I will say I am glad the conversation of power draw came up. I know that the PS3 draws some serious power so if the PS4 has very minimal power draw, that would make me happy camper. PS3 Super slim draws 190W. PS4 on standby draws 10W, and while playing a game like Killzone has a draw of around 150W. The power supply on the PS4 can do a maximum of 250 W, though it never actually reaches that. why...
what is to be gained here, who cares?

If I made 1000 dollars this summer, could I get a decent build? PC parts get cheaper every year. Back in the 90's a decent gaming PC would run you $1,000 or more. You can make a damn decent PC for much less now.
Check out the 'Next Gen Crusher' build on this link. Total cost of $450. I highly recommend this build.
If you are dead set on spending $1,000 then look at 'The End-All' build just a little farther down the page. Total cost of $900 I believe.

Just because you have an 850 watt power supply doesn't mean the system is always drawing that amount. Your power supply can usually supply 200W more than the max your system could ever need, judging by most builds I see and build. Plus having it plugged in 24/7 doesn't matter as much as if you're playing, because all modern computers and consoles have variable power draw depending on the intensity of their work, because the components inside underclock themselves to draw less power when not needed. As a sidenote, Sony is apparently coming out with a new PS4 with 1TB drive, AND lower power draw. 20 Watts less IIRC? Which would be cutting off 1/6th of the power draw from the console.
Agreed on the variability of the power draw. I only went large to be sure I had enough power for future peripherals.
I actually built the PC more for video processing and rendering. The only game it's had on it was EvE and I kicked that sociopath filled environment off of it once my year long test drive was up.
Sadly, I don't even use the PC that much; pay bills, watch some youtube, read e-mail. I usually have the PS3 monitor in front of the PC monitor most of the time.
Anywho, good discussion on hardware. I didn't know how much power the PS3 draws but it is clearly evident that it generates a lot of heat.

Major argument... Disclaimer: Prices are drastically different in different countries. PS4 Brand new from EB Games in NZ (at least my town) is almost $600. Disclaimer: 600 nz dollars = 380 euros A WHOLE 30 EUROS MORE THIS IS DISGRACEFUL You can have a PC that performs better than a Ps4 for literally the same price. All you have to do is use Google. Why don't people research anymore?!

If it is because KB/M, you do know they have controllers and you can sync your Ps3/Ps4/Xbox360/Xbone controller up to your pc.
If not, and you are just a PC hater, be quiet scrub.
What reason do you have for hating PC games?

So no. I will build my PC bro. Much better. And the war won't end until it actually happen.
Your advice is useless scrub but good to wipe sweaty stripper coochie with. They are actually fairly nice boxes at an affordable price. What I love about them is the fact that finally something is being done to bring console gamers over to PC games and finally unite us under the master race as was intended. Just for this fact I will be heavily cheering on the growth of these steam consoles even tho I do not have one and do not plan on having one. Once the next wave comes out which should also have support for upgrading the GPU as needed I think sony and microsoft are going to get into a bit of hot water. This is why microsoft is already developing cross platform stuff with windows 10 in preparation of having to fight this threat. I wonder bro, can it actually happen? I know Steam is awesome (and certainly is!). But Alienware??? Dell's expensive gaming PC division? Consoles fanboys are DEDICATED to consoles. You would think they are secretly Sony or MS super agents.
While normally you are totally right about alienware they seem to be changing gears and accepting that they need to balance performance versus cost if they want to break into this market.
The kicker for console fanboys will be the fact that they can use any choose of thousands of different controllers including xbox and ps3 controllers as well as having access to more games than the consoles all combined.
They have also devoted a good amount of time to making the system look and feel just like a console.

The above system with windows 10 and cross play to xbox is going to make things SERIOUSLY interesting. The real loser in all of this stands to be Sony in my opinion but only time will tell.

Yea I believe the original issue was that they are not going to allow outside servers. Even then windows 10 Xbox app only connects to the xbox servers as far as I can tell. |

I would like to see that PC.
I can buy a PS4 for 350Gé¼ on amazon
the gpu is about as powerful as a 270x, thats atleast 150Gé¼, 180Gé¼ if you actually want a good one with better cooling solution. ~150 for CPU and cheap motherboard and you are already at 330Gé¼
you still need RAM, cooler, case and power supply. your will be at ~450Gé¼. with compromises you could make it for 400Gé¼ but the PC will be ******, loud, get warm and have low ram. it also wont run at 120W under load like the PS4 and games will not run as well as dedicated PS4 games using the PS4 low level API. |
