AlienWare is making a console, a Steam console, that plays PC games in the steam library. It is coming out with a controller specifically designed for it and looks similar to the Xbox controller. It plays every game in the Steam Library, barring some, so if DUST gets ported to the PC and is set on Steam just like EVE Online, you can use the Steam Machine to play DUST like we are now. I always have a good PC and will prolly set up a steam box someday...maybe.
But my motiviation for wanting to see Dust on PS4 is that hacking/botting becomes that much harder and has repercussions outside of Dust.
We already know that peeps will cheat the kittenfuck out of this game and if we can't promise the EVE alliances that battles are immune to being influenced by bot-inspired losses of important EVE-Dust joint operations then they will simply dismiss Dust as irrelevant.
Worse still, if hacked/botted battles were to become a topic of conversation, the EVE playerbase would prolly revolt and demand Dust be disconnected from EVE, or be made trivial and harmless: y'know, like we are now.
That's why PS4.

That's why PS4. Oh goodness. This argument again. As consoles try harder and harder to become PCs, they fall prey to the same problems. If someone wants to hack a PS4 to cheat they simply will. The reason we hear more about the PC cheating problem is due to more people playing PCs vs. Xbox One/PS4.
Reporting cheaters and CCP having the staffing to handle those reports are the solution to this problem blown out of proportion. Eventually, if Dust turns a profit like I believe it will on PC, they can start up a Dust-version of Team Security. For those unaware, Team Security handles cheating/botting issues in Eve: Online.

manipulating data and bots are not possible to do on ps4 either, for that you would require to be able to run such software on the ps4 simultanously while playing the game which again is no way. |

The other part of the deterrent effect of PS4 is that there's more at stake than just your Dust account, hence a bigger pita for cheaters who get caught.

pssshhh I am using 10 times that much when you include my 4k tv as a monitor playing youtube and the other 24 inch monitors which form a giant panoramic view in 1080p at a stable 60 fps.
I am glad I would never be able to do anything even remotely close to this on a console that after a few extras is going to cost me close to a thousand dollars.

Hey don't worry PS4 fans. Sony is expected to announce a ps4 slim with a SSD and no blu ray drive so that developers MIGHT be able to hold 60fps @ 1080p.

They are actually fairly nice boxes at an affordable price.
What I love about them is the fact that finally something is being done to bring console gamers over to PC games and finally unite us under the master race as was intended. Just for this fact I will be heavily cheering on the growth of these steam consoles even tho I do not have one and do not plan on having one.
Once the next wave comes out which should also have support for upgrading the GPU as needed I think sony and microsoft are going to get into a bit of hot water. This is why microsoft is already developing cross platform stuff with windows 10 in preparation of having to fight this threat.

I wonder bro, can it actually happen? I know Steam is awesome (and certainly is!). But Alienware??? Dell's expensive gaming PC division? Consoles fanboys are DEDICATED to consoles. You would think they are secretly Sony or MS super agents.

Yeah, last PC I built in early 2014 has an 850 watt power supply. And I leave that powered on all the time. I don't notice the blip in my power bill, but that could be because it's masked by the A/C. |

Your power supply can usually supply 200W more than the max your system could ever need, judging by most builds I see and build.
Plus having it plugged in 24/7 doesn't matter as much as if you're playing, because all modern computers and consoles have variable power draw depending on the intensity of their work, because the components inside underclock themselves to draw less power when not needed.
As a sidenote, Sony is apparently coming out with a new PS4 with 1TB drive, AND lower power draw. 20 Watts less IIRC? Which would be cutting off 1/6th of the power draw from the console.

I will say I am glad the conversation of power draw came up. I know that the PS3 draws some serious power so if the PS4 has very minimal power draw, that would make me happy camper.

Newer consoles and PCs draw only the power they need to run, with a minimum of around 200- 250W. So really the power draw will be dependent on how GPU/CPU intensive Dust x86 is.

PS4 on standby draws 10W, and while playing a game like Killzone has a draw of around 150W.
The power supply on the PS4 can do a maximum of 250 W, though it never actually reaches that.
