CCP is greedy. Full stop.
For 40$ I get a full game, why should I buy 4 cosmetic skins? That is ridiculous.
On the plus side I have to say that it is at least cosmetic so no one is forced to buy it. BUT
I dont like to stress this saying to much.
You upset people with to high prices. Please tell this your marketing. Even if some people are rich or have parents that pay anything for their children.
Interesting side note: Skins are introduced in EVE too with MUCH lower prices (~3500 Aurum for smaller vessels even less). Of course you have to pay their a monthly fee so it is maybe not comparable straight forward, but if I sum up the costs for a fast skill point gain in Dust514 I have to say that Dust514 is an very expensive game.
3,500 AUR is worth more in EVE , it is scaled differently. I think 3,500 may actually be more than 10 dollars..I think 2,500 is 10 bucks..might be wrong though |

Debating on whether or not to buy a Kador SKIN...
Not only will I be one of the only Amarr scouts in existence, I'll have a snazzy skin on top of that!
I have ~26,000 AUR literally just sitting there, and boosters aren't for me, so why not? I also have 20$ in my PSN... Damn. I'm getting it.

Booby Tuesdays wrote:Aeon Amadi wrote:Booby Tuesdays wrote:Am I the only one that thinks the prices are where they should be? You can use it on basic, advanced, and proto suits. A standard BPO saves you what, 3k ISK? 3,000 ISK * GêP And how often do you actually run a basic suit? I'll bet you would run that SKIN way more often on your advanced and proto suits than you ever would have run a standard BPO. Bang for the buck is equal, imho. Am I going to pay $10? Nope. Waiting for faction LP/ISK SKINs.
Me, personally? Not that often, because I don't like the way BPO's operate (no risk) and I have more than enough funding to recover from the loss of a few prototype suits. I also want a competitive edge against my opponents and am a firm believer in the total annihilation of power levels (no more standard/advanced/proto - just one tier) and the removal of BPO's all together (apart from starter suits that have limited modification).
In fact, only time I ever use BPO's is when I've run out of fits mid-battle and don't feel like getting kicked out of the match trying to restock them all (I use blended fits with aurum gear that must be restocked individually).
However, I do know a lot of people who only use BPO's in Pub-matches and make a killing doing so. Because it's not -just- 3,000 ISK that you're saving, it's the fact that you're losing absolutely nothing and banking anywhere from 100,000 - 500,000 ISK every ten-to-twenty minute game.
PC Clone-generation netted about 8,000,000/day if I remember correctly, which for a corporation with a single district is about 500,000 ISK per person for a 16 man team. That being said, you make more, individually, using BPO's than you would have from PC unless you did what Kain Spero and the gang did and just monopolize the entirety of PC and lock down the districts to prove a point.
Sure, PC was broken, but now that it is virtually impossible to lock a district (PC list view) and you can't make ISK gains from simply selling clones, the real economy crasher is BPOs.

Yeah, they'll never do it, but they'll also never explain why we have tiers in the first place.

I would like to tie all of my suits together. I switch between every type of suit as needed, and there's nothing to tie it together. You don't realize I switched from scout to heavy until you see my name & HMG in the killfeed. Vanity items should be about self glorification, not role player immersion.

-shrug- EVE just released their new SKIN system too, and their skins only apply to a single ship out of dozens, prices range from under to over $10.
I have three points.
Firstly, the fact that we managed 5 pages complaining about SKIN price only seems to tell CCP we want them real badly; ie. if they do drop the price it won't be by much. If no-one said anything about SKINS, if sales were low and it looked like no one even cared, then they'd probably drop prices by half. In theory.
Secondly, I wouldn't mind if they left skins at $10, and once AURUM item trading is enabled, rich kids could sell skins for ISK. Sounds like a solid way to create a DUST 514 'PLEX'.
Oh, and by the way, does anyone remember the fact that, oh, I don't know, we get AUR for free now, as well as the free AUR from the upcoming event (if you're hardcore enough)?

Having the ability to confer that look to any suitable dropsuit is be far a bigger utility than a bpo.
We may certainly offer skins at different price points later once our authoring pipeline has more velocity. So do a survey and ask the playerbase if they bought their BPOs for Fashion or Function. If they say Function, well, then you'll have your answer So a players Quafe, when he has 3 Dren's, is function? Hardly. We will see.
Actually I always intend to use my extras for in-game ISK sales or distribution to new corp members. The quafe dropsuits and templar dropsuits are the only ones I got for the looks. The rest I can throw out and do things with. But I always considered the dropsuit and weapon BPOs for function, and if trades ever went live (which they have, and I rejoice) to give to new corpmates. It's why I kept buying bundles on the PSN store.

Basically this boils down to this: I can either buy a single skin for a single set of suits, or I can buy an entire game on steam.
This is bad news for CCP since I've got my eye on this old beauty.
Please realize that you are in a competitive environment here and that alot more people will see this as worth it if the price you charge isnt absolutely absurd.
I know personally Im not going to be buying any of these skins until they are about 2 bucks a piece. Making a skin for a 3d model is not hard enough to justify a 10-20$ fee. |

Point proven. Free AUR everywhere, people worrying about $10 skins. Grind $5 worth, spend $5 on the other half.
