In my opinion, if it keeps getting fixed and moves to pc, yes. It might have another bad era, but that might be the last as it transitions on to pc. If not, then ps4. Advertising will really help.

I think as soon as they move it to PC, CCP should have an event to finish up the PS3 by nuking every battle from orbit, and crashing everyone's PS3s simultaneously.
It shall be a bright future indeed. Blindingly bright, with radiation.

DUST or this IP in general whatever it may evolve into will always be a niche product....
Sadly it has become confused and desperately tried to become CoD in space to chase after a playerbase they where never going to get.
Sadly in doing this they chased away their hardcore player base...
DUST currently recycles 80% of it's population every month. With 1-2, 2-3 year vets quitting every month aswell this list has gotten to 200-300 players max.
It is truly sad CCP didn't do what ever vet warned them to do in Uprising 1.0.... Which was to actually create an inuitive learning process for new players so that DUST could actually retain a few personal friends playing the game longer then a week.
Sadly this never happened and all that has, has pandered to the 2-3 month old player that CCP looses 3 months later because there is no point to even playing the game... Other then to shoot people... And CCP can't compete with their shooting mechanics with well established shooter brands...
CCP's one appeal in their style of game development was always the promise of continuous development on their brands to add and make them better... EVE has thrived because players knew there was never going to be an "EVE 2" ... The game they invest their time and effort into will always evolve and change in one shape or form and continue to be actively developed on.
Where Bungie will eventually release all their content for Destiny... And then start working on "Destiny 2"
Since "Rouge wedding" however we learned that a game will be killed off for even a reason of convenience for development...
CCP Shanghai is a place that should never be trusted by gamers.

DUST actually seems to be moving in the right direction. Ratatti is actually listening to us, and changing things that benefit us. It's crazy, I know. Things are actually moving along. We're starting to get things right, and hopefully better for a port to ps4. No you idiots, we're not going to pc. Last time that was a viable option, everybody quit the game! Dammit you're stupid!

I think the future of it is still undecided, but it is certainly more positive than what it was after FF 14, and it is looking brighter all the time.
Whether that gets past a critical point where momentum can carry on long term, that is yet to be decided (so far as we know from the information we have currently).

It might depend on competitors such as Star Citizen which look like it will compete with EvE, Valkyrie, and Dust all in one package.
If a game like this starts having an effect on the EvE player base, I'd imagine you would see a greater effort to corner the market
They can't just throw Dust/legion on the PS4 or PC just for the sake of current players
It will end when more players migrate to other systems and there is no more money to be made

I have to agree here.
The playerbase was decimated by last FanFest's announcement of Project Legion.
****, Onslaught died out in Dust and moved over to Destiny, and when that game turned out to be a hollow fascimile of what we all expected, the clan just died.
CCP's announcement of Project Legion quite literally led to the death of several clans that were formed around prior games and really got invested in Dust 514.
I would hope that Dust 514 becoming profitable on it's own and our continued dedication is enough to show CCP that we are more than worth the effort of migrating this game to PS4 and building it into what it should be.

It has always seemed to me that CCP is either lazy or just don't care about the player base, and make whatever they feel like making the game. I would begin to imagine that, if there was enough draw from star citizen, or any other game like it, they would put more effort into keeping their player base and trying to draw more new players. With all this being said. It does seem that Ratatti is actually putting in work and wanting to make us happy customers again.

As to the question posed in the OP, I honestly don't know.
I WANT this game to have a bright future, but...I'm just not sure how to make it happen given what's already happened and how long the whole Project Legion fiasco has been left to fester.

They could always go for broke and try for a pc/ps4 cross-platform and drawn the old vets, new players and even some eve players to their player base. This way they could work on it having more interaction with eve and eve players could influence dust directly without having to get a console and ppl like me who cant afford a great pc can continue to play the game they love. |

What I think CCP should know is that if they do put more resources into DUST, if they do keep it alive, and reach a level where general discussion is at least 60% positive threads, that EVE will attract more customers (DUST players looking to drop orbitals and staying) and become more fun too.
The fact of the matter is, eventually someone might make a better spaceship game. Already, there exist better FPS' for people who play for the sake of a good FPS, instead of DUST's skill and diverse item system.
But where else can you find a console-FPS linked to a spaceship PC MMO? Does anyone else have the balls to try? They have something here, it could be something glorious. The lore, even down to respec tokens, I could think of ways to integrate into New Eden. To be honest, there isn't any concrete explanation for patch notes and items being removed and replaced anyway(hell, sov is getting a massive overhaul in EVE and all we can do is -magical lore wand- it into existence as if it had always been so).
I worry the reason CCP are hesitant to move further with DUST is partially because the link to New Eden is too tenuous. If that is the case, then I would argue not to get trapped by the universe you created in the first place. Stretch those boundaries a little.

If that is the case, then I would argue not to get trapped by the universe you created in the first place. Stretch those boundaries a little. Two words: Star Citizen Not even close.
From the beginning they've stated a maximum instance limit of 100 ships, and it'll probably end up lower than that in order to ensure good performance.
Add to that that whatever Illfonic is doing for the shooter side of things will be focused primarily on boarding ships and we dont' even have any confirmation if it will involve planets at all at launch, and it becomes pretty clear Star Citizen is no threat to either EVE or Dust.
They are aimed at two different kinds of players. Just like Elite: Dangerous, Star Citizen aims to strongly limit the ammount of influence players have over the way the world works, rather than allowing them to define the world almost entirely like EVE Online does. Star Citizen is basically "Sandbox-Lite", and it's attracted a lot of people that way.
The truth is that this game wouldn't even be on a level to have to compete with any other game if it in any way represented the kind of sandbox that EVE Online is. Instead, we have a 32-player lobby shooter with a bad memory leak and framerate problems.
Again, I pledged for Star Citizen, but let's try and keep things in perspective.

Honestlu, I don't think Dust has a bright future. If they port it to PC, PSt and maybe other gaming consoles such as XBox, it might boost dust's popularity.

The general direction has GREATLY improved.
If CCP can really lock down their development cycles and commit resources while keeping the path we are on now there is a great future.
If CCP goes back to treating the general process to something similar to Eve the game will fall to the triple A games in a hurry on whatever platform it goes too.
CCP has proven to have upper level management issues and it was only bringing Ratatti into the picture who was able to make a connection to the player base that put us on to a better path. I only hope that whenever more resources are given to the project this same type of player communication can be held on to.
To be totally honest I am still a bit confused on my opinions of the game's future. This is mostly because of what I have seen from CCP in Eve as well as seeing how they handled the first years of Dust. I can say that the confusion is only because of the last many months being very good in terms of offsetting all of the previous negative opinions. |

Dishearteningly I believe DUST will began to wither away. Like most stuff in life - "All good things must come to it's end." DUST is probably the only reason why I would even get back onto my PlayStation 3. Especially after PlayStation Home's fall...
Yeah, the game isn't perfect, but it's concept is vastly unique compared to some other Science Fiction games.
