If CCP as a company takes the game seriously, it might, but that means they would have to invest a lot more money in the game which they probably won't do. It seems like they are just seeing how far this will go before pulling the plug. We all know that Dust could be better if its on a next-gen console, so if CCP really wanted to they would be investing in redesigning the or porting the game on a much stronger platform, but it seems like they aren't( I have my own theories to why they might not). So the game may not have a future since the number of players just will keep dwindling, especially after all the big releases coming out this year. Not likely for many players to stick around for long. |

If Dust can migrate off of the PS3 and onto the PC (barring that, PS4) within a year, yes.
If not, no. It will probably disappear into nothingness as more and more players leave.

The game was like a giant EAT A **** to this whole stupid PC vs Console thing.

Welp after reading all that comments, it seems dust is still loved by the majority. It's kinda cute. Guess it's up to the devs to make do of what they have. God's peed you glorious bastards

Let's just enjoy the journey for now. Rat. is making a very brave last stand on trying to please the last of us while proving to CCP there is still money to be made... Where is that money going anyways? Dust will die in a year or so, but will continue to live if CCP decides to greenlight Legion or create a port.

Mobius Wyvern wrote:Not even close.
From the beginning they've stated a maximum instance limit of 100 ships, and it'll probably end up lower than that in order to ensure good performance.
Add to that that whatever Illfonic is doing for the shooter side of things will be focused primarily on boarding ships and we dont' even have any confirmation if it will involve planets at all at launch, and it becomes pretty clear Star Citizen is no threat to either EVE or Dust.
They are aimed at two different kinds of players. Just like Elite: Dangerous, Star Citizen aims to strongly limit the ammount of influence players have over the way the world works, rather than allowing them to define the world almost entirely like EVE Online does. Star Citizen is basically "Sandbox-Lite", and it's attracted a lot of people that way.
The truth is that this game wouldn't even be on a level to have to compete with any other game if it in any way represented the kind of sandbox that EVE Online is. Instead, we have a 32-player lobby shooter with a bad memory leak and framerate problems.
Again, I pledged for Star Citizen, but let's try and keep things in perspective. Lol, I'm only in it for the immersion. And that is something that EVE simply will never offer me, because I can't just imagine it anymore. That game has always made me feel so disconnected. I'm getting an Oculus rift, a HOTAS setup, the works for SC. It's a game that lets me imagine. It's all about obnoxious levels of detail and technical innovation. I don't care if it takes 5 years for it to launch even half of what they've promised. The modules will be released as they're finished, so there will be plenty of SC to be had in the meantime. And I severely doubt they'll be capping out on the ship count as time goes on, considering one of the huge draws is being able to design your own ships and have them built in game and sold, if they're up to par. The FPS side of things looks intensely tactical, and very slow paced. Since there's no respawn mechanic in SC, it's going to be a lot more stressful and frustrating and that's something I love in games :D
You're definitely right, it's for two separate audiences for sure. At no point did I even intend to imply that it would threaten EVE or DUST, simply that it will be it's own juggernaut that needn't worry about them either. I want the experience of living in space, in first person, with incredible obnoxious attention to detail. And SC offers me that, though im still pretty bad at dogfighting lmao. Getting my flight stick soon :D
I'm more concerned with the technical limitations, which will ensure that DUST won't be able to lift off with the rest. As a F2P game it's always going to have clients, and lets face it, y'all are some damn loyal nerds and drop the benjamins (hell, I've spent like $120 on this, and I bash the game all the time.) I just found it kind of silly to act like DUST / EVE is the only game out there that's trying to do something awesome and unique.
Squadron 42 is gonna be boss as hell.

I will only say it has a bright future ahead of it on the condition it gets ported over to the PS4.

If ccp decides to terminate console operations and send it to pc only, theyl never be welcomed back into the console market, even if they reopen dust again it will fail because everyone will know they are just too terrible at consoles.

Dust could have been the best MMOFPS ever. But CCP wasted every opportunity to make Dust great.
I still want the game they promised us for years. It's a damn shame we will never get it.
The only real truth in history is that it was bloody.
