1) Racial tanks desperately needed to be added for amarr & min 2) We asked for placeholder tanks that accurately represent the stats of each race 3) I'm not aware of anyone that's actually doing 3d modeling on the dust 514 team 4) Even if they had a 3d modeller at the moment, they're facing memory issues on the hardware (aka, your ps3 melts when trying to run the game). 5) Quit being an ungrateful snot that something is actually being developed and worked on just because it doesn't have something shiny attached to it.

And no, I sincerely doubt you have any clue about what it means to develop a game, but hey, I'll ask just in case: How many games / apps have you personally developed? How many gaming projects / teams / companies have you been employed with? What's your knowledge as a programmer? How good are you with the hardware? Have you ever worked in a capacity similar to the cpm?
I'm going to guess that the answers to a lot of these won't reflect kindly on you, so please shut up with the moronic "I KNOW WHAT IT MEANS TO DEVELOP A GAME", because its self-aggrandizing crap where you try to create a moral high-ground for yourself to stand on while spouting petty nonsense.

Make a better game, if you know better than CCP. Use that knowledge of what it means to develop a game, and actually develop one. Do it. Go on. Make a MMO like this on the PS3. You fail to realize, that the ps3 is limited to hell. We can't add in anymore **** because we have hardly anymore memory. CCP has hit a wall and need to move the game. I don't know why I'm posting here, since you don't seem to have any interest in listening to any of us, but the way the game was previously designed leaves it hitting the limits of the PS3's very limited RAM and VRAM, which are each only 256 MB.
This new method they are deploying of re-skinning assets instead of putting in an entirely new asset that is effectively the same model but with a different paintjob should allow for more FPS and POSSIBLY reduce some of the memory consumption which would allow the actual vehicles and turrets to come in at a later date.

I certainly don't remember ever begging for placeholders. My issue is that once placeholders are put in new 3D models will never arrive. The devs will no longer see completing the racial lineup as a priority and these 'placeholders' will be all we ever get.
The devs shouldn't add things in the game unless they can be proud to so so and we as players should accept nothing less.
The vocal minority who shout loudest on these forums will do well to remember that the are only part of this community and not THE community. I feel that CCP need to be reminded of this when listening to the vocal few on these forums. |

The point of putting in Placeholders is so that they can hold a place.
The "vocal minority" is not working against what everyone else wants here. In case you didn't notice, the thread where CCP Rattati posted the images of the re-skins was almost entirely filled with positive responses. If you're going to claim that every single one of those people was somehow part of this "vocal minority" you speak of than I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
These re-skinned vehicles will allow for Minmatar and Amarr players to have something aimed at their racial playstyle to use up until the actual models for them and new weapons for them can be introduced.
Having the placeholders put into the game is absolutely better than having nothing at all for anyone who plays Minmatar or Amarr up until the models can finally be put into the game.

HTFU you are NOT, I repeat NOT, taking Amarr tanks away from me for any reason. Place holders or individual models they need to be added at some point and right now without the capability to produce unique models place holders are all we can ask for.

You have to see reality. As of right now, I'm not even sure if CEO Hilmar even sees Dust worth putting more manpower into it than it already has. Which is why some of us are taking it upon ourselves to spend more money on this game to show CCP that this game is worth adding at least a couple of more devs to it.
I also want to see legit-looking Amarr and Minmatar tank models like you do, but we're not going to see any of that if we don't convince CCP to put more people into developing the game further and at the very least moving it over to the PS4.

IWS was saying on Skype that this would involve recooking the maps, which is beyond the range of what the current team can do in a reasonable timeframe.

The thing is with the forums, is that all the CCP fan boys don't like it when someone says something that might offend CCP. For me personally, I think it's lazy... In CCP's mind they've said to themselves 'they wanted racial tanks, so that's what we will give them'. If this game is 'a nice little cash earner' Why not put some ******* money into developing the game/ get some decent coders! This game has a lot of issues, we don't need to add unnecessary things into the game which could potentially break it even more....

Most people usually don't even care about looks. The. Power player bunch just cares about performance. That's why they chase FotM. Otherwise, the rest of us want performance, but for the sake of the gear performing appropriately to the race. If the turret can sound and fire like a laser and the tank has capabilities of the race then great!

This is just the last in a string of bad decisions thats preventing CCP from making a good game here.
1. Deciding to put this on the PS3. This was some upper level corporate donkey who wanted to "leverage synergies" and all kinds of dumb ****, I guarantee it. Someone got a hold on some guy at Sony who wanted to bring more games to PSN, and they gave Dust 514 a sweetheart deal. And this is what we end up with. A game built on a machine at the end of its lifecycle, thats showing its age and should never have been chosen as the platform for a forward looking game that was going to be expanded and developed as a kind of open sandbox MMO shooter game. Guess what, the PS3 cant handle that, so what we get instead is a lobby shooter.
Im not even going to list all the other problems with the game, since they all pretty much extend from that first misstep.
Its just sad that we cant even get 3D models for the new tanks, because thats something even amateur game moders can do for free in their mom's basement.
Meanwhile we still dont have a full array of scrambler pistols, we still dont have any anti armor tactical rifles, we still dont have breach and burst scramblers, we still dont have burst rail rifles, and so on and so forth, all this **** would take like an hour or two of work each, all the models are already in game, its just ******* lazyness and lack of vision thats hurting this game. The magsec and ion pistol still suck, breach rail rifle is broken and crap compared to other rifles, scrambler is OP (but hey at least they aknowledge it now and might fix it), shield dropsuits suck nuts compared to armor ones, and so on and so forth.
Don't get me wrong, Ill sing praises to rattati and the dev team for what they have done so far, because they've really been doing the best they can recently with the **** hand they've been dealt, and this game is fun when the matchmaking isnt making every game 8v14 and disconnecting you or however it decides to screw you over this time, but come on. There's still some really lazy **** going on with the development of this game, and its pretty sad.
So fine, we'll get some tanks, I guess thats cool. Whatever. Its not like it makes a difference which invincible death machine is shooting at me and making it so I wish swarm launchers still worked without having to get 3+ people to use them to get anything done.
I guess the point is when you see someone complaining about the new tanks not having new models, just remember its not just this one thing they are really complaining about, its a whole series of things that makes this one thing the straw that broke the camel's back for them. |

Depends on how you stack your database; some games don't have more than one gun and just have variations on the model and stats but all stemming from the same family. Older games are not likely to have this kind of db family stacking though and have individual pages for each weapon. Newer games however do the family stacking so that it becomes easier to define not only a whole group but modify the entire tree or branches of that tree at a time; IE nerf all semi-auto rifles the same would be simply going into the semi-auto rifle branch and changing the attribute there. Eve's database (and to an extent ours) is very similar on this concept; An entry for a Thorax includes; The Blueprint, Blueprint original, produced item when packaged, produced item when unpacked, and all tech 2 and pilot variations and their blueprints and the likes on one page. Instead of 30 or so. This can cause some problems because every item in the game is treated in this manner. Random space rock? Blueprint for that too. Missile fired from your launcher? Blueprint for that specific instance of that time as well. (this has been seemingly fixed I cannot target missiles anymore and it caused immense amount of lag) but say you want to nerf all Gallente Cruisers; you cant do it in one go on a single attribute you have to tune each one individually. Dust 514 has consistently expressed this problem over and over again as some of you found out.
Either way Dust and Eve has things going for it (immense storage space) and bad things going for it (the very strict dependency of items being in a 'physical' location) which has had made player trading extremely hard pursuit because the eve wide inventory doesn't have a 'teleporter' for items to simply go from your inventory into x players inventory 30 jumps away.
Other games DB has things going for it as well but they also have limits; Namely their items have extreme number of properties allowing for massive amounts of variety at acceptable memory costs. You can easily via attachments and doohickeys give the apperance of 50 different guns while its still technically 1 gun base model. CoD AW expresses this rather strongly if you're playing with a really shoddy connection the content doesn't stream that well and you can see that even guns that are supposed to be more unique looking have a base 'grey' model shared between all variants of the gun or its modifications.

Yeah their lead "chairman", Chris Roberts, is pretty bro tier as well, and answers community questions and all that good stuff on youtube and has alot of community interaction.
The small dev team for Dust is just another mistake CCP has made and is making, not only are they not providing enough resources to make changes and improvements, they also routinely cannabalize the dust dev team for other projects like Valkaryie or Eve expansions (or so I have heard from a number of places, this may or may not be true). |

You all seem to say "can't add 3D models cause the RAM can't allow it." I just want to say "WHAT !?!?!?"
If THIS is the issue then the problem isnt 3D models but optimisation, reducing the complexity of the programs, loading less useless stuffs smartly, etc. Saying that is utter crap. Look at games like Uncharted 2-3, killzone 3, or even DC Universe Online (another MMO on PS3 for those who dont know^^), their graphics are amazing (not talking about DCUO on that), their content is big, 3D models everywhere, detailed maps, PS3 does not melt. The devs on these games found a way to optimize them and make them work pretty well on a PS3. Take a game like Assassin's Creed, the map is huge, there's a lot of variety, houses, people, trees, grass, etc.. They did great even if the PS3 doesnt have a lot of RAM.
Fix the game before trying to add anything else.
(Hint: hit detection, lags, glitches,.. you've got some work :) )
