We recorded a day late this week, but the podcast is now live!
http://biomassed.net/2015/04/07/episode-48-what-sickness-looks-like/
We were joined by Cat Merc, Cross Atu, Iron Wolf Saber, Kane Spero, and Luther Mandrix. Jaysyn was unable to make the start of the show, and we had a couple of our guests drop in mid-show as well. We went a fair bit off the rails without JaysynGÇÖs guiding direction, but we talked about matchmaking, SKINs for dropsuits, how skills apply to suits, the CPM white paper revision blog I posted this weekend, and a few other things, like who Gaben is and how not to clean the inside of a PlayStation 3.

Biomassed is a weekly podcast hosted by Pokey Dravon, Jaysyn Larrisen, and myself about DUST 514. It often features multiple members of the CPM, other members of the community, and on rare occasion, CCP devs. It is also now a blog we are just starting at biomassed.net

Pretty sure rattati has popped in a time or two.

MINA, we use a program called Mumble and record from that. Skype's kinda unreliable, and it'd be difficult to control the quality or recording in-game as well.

Soraya, I have a question.
Is it every frustrating knowing things that are NDA that you feel the community should know but, obviously, are unable to speak about?
I remember you being on the podcast when Respecs were coming and you said something along the lines of "Yes, I know something you don't and you will just have to wait and see." For the skin thing that are on the Test Server, you can of course say the completely logical thing of "Well, it wouldn't be there if Rattati didn't think it was possible" as a sort of "well, obviously." But for things that you may or may not know about the other potentials (PS4/PC, Aurum purchases, just banning people for having initials J.R), is it ever frustrating having that knowledge and not being able to answer the questions?

Im not soraya, but i deal with NDA/CAs daily and i tell you it is the most annoying thing ever alot of times.
Having an argument and dropping knowledge bombs when all of a sudden you realize you werent either supposed to say or have no publoc information way to prove what you just said.
"i call bullshit" no its totally true "Why?" ...i ....i legally cant tell you.

It is. Particularly when I'm optimistic about something, and can't tell people why. It sucks.

Particularly when I'm optimistic about something, and can't tell people why. It sucks. And because you are optimistic, you get called out for being CCP fanboy or more offensive terms. You also couldn't make a list of things you are optimistic on or even make too many statements in regards to being optimistic less that slip happens. Well, as one of the monkeys at the bottom of the tree, I empathize that the monkeys in the middle are getting pooped on from above. However, that still won't stop me/us from throwing poop up.
About the podcast: when something is being discussed that is under NDA, do you sit there and kind of dance in your seat? IE, Respecs were talked about several months ago and you obviously couldn't say anything. However, the panel talked about it in detail. What is your reaction when that happens? (Obviously not "I don't say anything" but "I mute myself and giggle and say 'you are so close!'.")
Thanks for the responses.

quoted just because it was awesome to read. monkey-poop analogies are so rare! and so very special. to be clear though, i've never thrown up poop
also... not sure it was intentional, but "slip happens"... ha!!!

It is an old thing about any company.
It is a tree with a bunch of monkeys. Most at the bottom, some in the middle, very few at the top. There are monkeys moving up and down every once in a while. The monkeys at the top look down and see nothing but monkeys. The monkeys at the bottom look up and see butts. The monkeys at the top poop and it rolls onto the monkeys in the middle. The monkeys drop the poop on the monkeys at the bottom. The monkeys at the bottom throw poop at the monkeys in the middle.
In short: it is great to be at the top, it sucks being at the bottom, and it is worse to be in middle management...

I don't need to mute myself, I can just smirk silently. :)

I treat NDA things as irrelevant data whenever I talk to xel.
Can you confirm this?
No?
Doesn't exist or matter till you can or info is released.
Really cuts down on the disappointment/annoyance factor.

https://support.us.playstation.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/802/~/clean-and-maintain-ps3-system
Clean and maintain PS3 System (Sony Support) Was this answer helpful? Yes No [PS3Gäó system] Updated 05/06/2013 Safety Precautions For safety reasons, before cleaning the system or connected accessories, disconnect the AC power cord from the electrical outlet.
Manual Please review the Safety and Support manual for proper use, handling and maintenance of the PlayStation 3 (manual included with the PlayStation 3 system and available for download from PlayStation 3 Manuals).
Vents It is important to maintain your PlayStation 3 system by keeping the vents on the system free of dust. Because dust can accumulate in the vents of the PlayStation 3 system, we recommend that you check the vents periodically (and clean them if necessary). After turning off your system and unplugging it from the electrical outlet, you may remove any accumulated dust with the hose attachment of your vacuum cleaner or with a small handheld vacuum. Important Note: Do not use compressed air to blow out your system. This can cause the dust in the vents to be blown into the PlayStation 3 which could possibly damage your system.
Exterior Surface When maintaining the exterior surface of the PlayStation 3 and the SIXAXISTM wireless controller, it is recommended to wipe using a clean soft cloth, free of any cleansers or product.
Discs We do not recommend the use of any type of lens cleaner. Instead, we only recommend cleaning your discs using lint-free "CD wipes" found at your local software stores. When cleaning the discs, start at the innermost circle and wipe towards the edge in a straight line. We do not recommend wiping in a circular motion, as it may scratch on the disc. |

While it may, depending, be okay to vacuum near the OUTSIDE of your PS3, as this instruction indicates (as to not push dust that's outside the PS3 into the PS3, it is most certainly not safe to vacuum the inside of your PS3, as we were discussing on the show, regardless of what any Sony instruction might say. Using a vacuum inside electronics can permanently destroy them if you aren't using a vacuum that's specifically designed to be safe around electronics.

Part of the reason why, is quite often my most optimistic moments coincide with the community's most bitter. (Night is darkest just before the dawn, perhaps? Though I suppose the community's been burned by that line of thinking before.)

A question to Soraya: Have you attempted to get your podcast posted to any EVE news sites? (Themittani.com / EN24 / others)
I think your podcast would go along way in helping to show just how alive DUST community and dev activity is. Also show to EVE pilots how active the CPM and et all are. |
