Is this a fair comparison? Seems to be the prized jewel for each game, the ultimate sandbox or whatever. So why is doors one inherently work much better than the other?
Now I have a limited experience with EVE so feel free to chime in:
In Dust CCP is trying to make PC easier for new corps to get into. In EVE you are always just a gate jump away from null sec.
In Dust PC you have a limited player pool of 16v16, any more than 16 is just some dude scheduling his day around maybe playing PC. In EVE when you go to null sec you could always use anther player in the fleet dealing any small amount of extra damage.
In Dust PC you can only fight at scheduled times. In EVE null sec you can fight whenever you see someone.
In Dust you play PC so you can play PC. In EVE you fight in null sec so you can run or outsource mining ops, exploration ops, ratting, control routes for trading and deliveries, etc
Again I have little experience with EVE so call me out or add on. My gist is it seems that CCP is putting a lot of resources into making PC this awesome player driven sandbox like EVE's Null sec, but with where we are at now with the games assets, coding, and hardware limitations that effort seems largely wasted. It's a great goal to strive for but won't really be possible until Dust moves onto me hardware and gets a lot more funding.
That's not to say players don't like competitive battles. A better use of resources would be too reintroduce simple corp battles from Chromosome, keep PC where it's at, and use the remaining work hours on stuff that has a better chance at directly impact the majority of your customers.

Aero,
Not sure if you are tracking the impending Sov changes (coming in June) but they are literally changing everything...everything.
It actually starts to fell much more like the PC / raiding concept with attack windows like we've been discussing.
Just food for thought...recommended for anyone interested in how PC is being reworked.

PC and Sov are similar. Both suck. ;)
No, you're not always a jump away from null. It's quite a ways through dangerous space, and most entry systems, you'll get shot as soon as you jump through, because the alliances owning that space police it heavily. Inbound gates from lowsec (or the rare highsec->nullsec gate) are incredibly actively camped. My alliance has always had a specific channel set aside just for people policing that gate.
Sov has a ton of scheduling. Our timers are loosely based on the sov reinforcement system. All serious combat where real assets are committed take place around these timers, and outside of that is often little more than short roams around space hoping to find some other short roam around space that you don't like. Playing in sov space is incredibly boring, which is why I've been parked in station there for two years and not bothered playing at all.
CPM1 Elect. Thanks for all your support. [email protected] for ideas, thoughts, and feedback.

Again... highly recommend you actually read the EVE Devblog. Several of your observations are directly addressed in the fairly comprehensive offering by CCP Fozzie.
Your perceptions are very much not the same as many other folks who actually still play EVE.

We really need some way to be able to walk around without a battle going on. It gives the player base so much more to work with. |

I want this too, but also with the ability to gank other players and hold them up for their ISK.
Of course in High Sec planets you would have Concord Troops that can instakill anyone who trys to gank but in Low and Null...
I find your lack of heaviness... disturbing...

CONCORD can't maintain a presence on the planets of New Eden like they can in space. You'd more than likely find Empire Security.

It's not that hard to get in there , lol. I enjoy busting through gate camps and stealing lucrative sites from whomever I choose. I have traversed one of the longest all null sec routes ever..multiple times. I agree though as a person stationed there, if there is no war going on.. it gets quite boring fast..but as an outsider it is exciting to pillage them! |

In one way I agree with the OP, however I don't see PC as the end all to the system we would like.
PC for owning districts, specialized forces, tactical battles... etc. yes. It revolves around FPS gameplay.
What we also want is a sense of adventure, exploration, and more that becomes an ultimate combination of the eve games, and a crapton more. We want to fly in space, explore a planet, and economically prosper from a multitude of activities that include mining, raiding, pillaging, and all the FPS activities already set up.
We want more than 'ka-pow-pow in the facey-face' gameplay. We want to better explore the New Eden universe. Perhaps one day we will. And a player will have have a character with access to all skills, or run a team of specialists as the player jumps from character to character to achieve a desired result. The gaming of the future is moving towards ever expanded play and environments, and one day - full VR that makes real life only worth a job to pay for food and internet :).... I can dream.
One step at a time, I know... but I would prefer a swifter pace.

And I want two chicks at the same time, but that's not happening either.
So I recommend you work on PC instead.

I know for a fact if you're half way decent looking and happen to be in Dallas, Chicago or St Louis, there are certain venues that this kind of thing happens all the time.. Guess you just gotta be in the right place and know the right people.
But unfortunately Dust is like that ginger friend that would rather stay inside and play farmville.... |
