let me get right too it, proto stomping in pubs is a real problem to the game and i propose a solution or better yet a compromise.
i admit to enjoying running proto in matches as much as the next merc but when a herd of mercs with proto Scrambler rifles and core f*ck grenades its ridiculous and presents a problem... i propose to restrict proto weapons (or maybe proto suits) to attempt some sort of balence...
as for the herd of squads dominating solos and rarely facing a MATCHED squad, i propose implementing a some sort of use of the total data of spent skill points of each player and time spent IN game in a given squad, time to be the deciding variable of how many skill points are too many.
take this and modify it as you will, this is just an idea but if you guys can spit ball ideas on how to make this better but we need to stop proto stomping squads some how... |

The issues are real. Even if few people can articulate them well in a post.

My biggest issues for when people tell me to stop running Proto:
1) What happens if I run a proto suit with a Basic Gun for more variety? 2) I've played this game for over two years, and yet you want me to refrain from the best part? 3) I have more money than I need to worry about running proto. FW is a stomp, and too hard to get into. There is no Isk sink. 4) What about people in Adv suits, which can destroy nearly as effectively as a Proto Squad vs Militia gear 5) Players will lesser experience will NEVER catch up. I have 60 mil SP. Maxing cores plus weapon proficiency is 30 mil. That means that I will have an advantage ahead of them no matter what suit I use 6) Killing players who crouch with sniper rifles when I'm 5m from them doesn't work. Nothing cures stupidity 7) Not every player using proto is deadly. We have bad days, and if you're squad is together, 5 militia suits can kill a proto suit. Your issue is proto squads 8) What about proto logis, that keep their squad alive? Would you complain if I ran my proto logi suit while my squad of Adv gear ran all over you with M1 Locus Grenades? 9) What if I use a Proto suit with basic modules like the APEX? Is that proto? 10) What happens if my team is getting decimated by other squads of non-proto? Can I run proto to swing the tide????? I usually go into a dom and find we're redlined. It takes proto links, followed by a proto speedhack, followed by numerous other suits to solo hold the objective against the other team to even have a chance at winning.
People will complain about everything that kills them. Once you can define my 10 terms, then I'll stop running proto in pubs. Until then, no.

The age old mantra has always been: "Stomp them before they stomp you." That is because there will always be that 1 Merc that runs proto, and if proto is truly such a big deal, than the enenmy team immediately gets the advantage.

I still kick proto stompers in the teeth with my Sever Logi suit as well as win matches on a regular basis. Yeah I can proto but play with less because its hilarious watching a proto go down to a 'Toxin' Assault Rifle, leaving my Duvall in my inventory for another time.
Running with a squad allows me to do this, playing my role rather than being a one man army.

As a 100% solo player (for now at least) I find that the biggest issue I have when I am getting protostomped isn't the enemy squads running proto gear. The biggest issue I have is how I see a lot of my teammates handle the situation of being protostomped.
If you realize you are being protostomped and you don't immediately register in your mind that this the moment when you need to become a true "tryhard" and that you need to give everything you have to that match regardless of how you feel the outcome might be then you are only making it that much easier for your team to get completely destroyed. I also notice a lot of people not helping their teammates with getting a kill and not providing cover fire. The lack of cover fire and suppressive fire I see in this game is ridiculous and is one of the biggest things that pisses me off. Protostompers rush, flank, and team up on the enemy and if you don't make any effort to try to figure out how to counter that or if you don't make any effort to do the exact same thing yourself then the problem is with a lack of effort and not necessarily with the protostompers.
I am not saying you are one of the people who don't try to make something happen when being protostomped. What I am saying is there are a lot of people who give up too easily in this game.
Of course CCP could just block people from forming squads in Public Matches and leave squads for FW and PC. I don't think we should be preventing people from using the gear that they put in time and effort to acquire. |

We will soon have a meta level lock in the new game modes Yay! So std-adv only in one game and proto suits in the other. I don't need it since I hunt down proto squads alone anyways, but the players just starting out or those who just use low tier suits can't. Usually.

This is what I've been saying for sometime now but instead of not allowing them to have squads , bring back the warbarge like in FW or PC and allow enough time to form squads if needed but the randomness of pubs should be more of a factor seeing as how they are public contracts , you wouldn't think that one would face organized squads but more of a random nature and environment .
I just couldn't see people having a problem with that and it also would create a more balanced environment because of the random nature of the game mode , it would also help people get to know the competition and play / talk / squad with people that they wouldn't normally have the chance to .
Doubts are like flies and should be treated as such and crushed .

the main issue lies not with the proto gear by itself.
when all alone proto gear is just like everything else it only gets an adavtnage over adv suits by a few points.
the main problem is when you get a squad of 4-6 people all using proto gear. this is where the proto stomp issue starts. when in a group proto is capable of decimating everything with next to no effort due to its higher base stats then add on +5 level for the skill which further boost's its capability. compared to say adv or std gear using the same +5 level boost. proto gear always has the advantage.
proto suits/weapon's are just like every other suit/weapon in the game the only issue is when 4-6 people run a proto squad they can decimate an entire 6 man ADV squad plus another 1-2 adv gear users.
its not the prototype gear's fault its more about the players mindset and as to why they should stomp everyother lower SP player in path and dominate the field so only they can grow and the ,lower sp players stay low and take too long to even build up enough sp to fight back..
the excuse ''I played for 2 years so I deserve to stomp every cheery in sight'' is a comnpletley wrong mindset.; int eh end using the best possible gear against new players hurts not only the game's community but players who are interested in playing and staying in the game.
I admit I too like to use my proto gear everynow and then.....but why should I when I have countless BPO fittinbgs for eveyrole I skilled into. due to the increased TTK of lower gear compared to proto makes it more challenging, fun and rewarding.
the effectiveness of going from std bpo fits to proto fits is astounding and the gap betwwen MLT-PRO gear needs to be closed further so that new players or people who want to run lower end gear get more of a chance against proto stompers/users.
currently a great example is this. so with max skills in HAV's. I have made 2 fits. I have this maddy fitting which is 1.2mill isk. proto maddy ion cannon 2x std blasters complex heavy/light reps complex 120mm plate complex armour hardener compelx blaster damage amp / heatsink basic fuel injector. off the bat this tank fitting will anhilite everything in its path with good reason.......its a 1.2mill isk fit. not to mention high regen/firepower.
now I replicated the fitting down to 156k isk.
std maddy std lrge blaster 2x std smll blasters basic armour hardner millita heavy/light armour rep bpo's millita 120mm plate bpo basic fuel injector basic blaster damage amp / heatsink.
the effectiveness of these tank fittings is out right ludricous. the std fitting is literally 10th of the cost for a 3rd of the effectiveness. the proto maddy will shred anything in its sights with next to no effort......unlkess shooting BS high jumping infantry. now the STD maddy fit is at a complete disadvantage in terms of everything against the proto maddy fit. but that's where the fun/challenge is. the STD maddy has to work harder for its kills and regens an exact 100hp/s slower than the proto maddy. the regen is the major difference that 100 hp/s loss is quite huge. especially considering the std fit only gets 3785 armour vs 4575 for the proto.
generally when I see a non proto tank on the field....even if its a std or adv hull using a proto turret. I will drop my cheap ass maddy knowing I could easly kill it with the proto fit. why use the cheap one you ask? because it's more funa nd takes more effort......and makes you look like a noob tanker for using a std hull with std cannon..... still.
on track again. its not proto gear that is the issue its the player mentality that they HAVE to use their best **** at all times. this is the main issue,

Until then, no. . Why not use an APEX suit.

It's really ******* sad. We already had a mechanic that counteracted stomping to some degree, but CCP just removed it. The Warbarge is essential for a game mode where randoms assemble.
Also, I couldn't care less about protos in protostomps. Those guys don't win because of proto. They don't even win because of personal skill. It's the teamwork and nothing else. On their own, each of them tends to be pathetically weak even against someone in STD gear. Also, BPO dropsuits like the APEX cause a demotivation effect. It might not be apparent at first, but there's a psychological difference between "the guy who killed me uses proto gear - Let's kill him so that he loses his expensive stuff" and "That guy is using an Apex - Even if I kill him, he won't care". |

I'm going to be a little ignorant here; I didn't read all of the posts. Sorry.
It's not the gear, it's the players. I know for a fact that a good squad from my Corp would militia stomp a big chunk of the players I see in pubs. Part of this is coordination and teamwork.
The reason I proto stomp is because me and my squad are looking for good competition. Fck, a few days ago we were so bored after one of our PCs that we Q synced against each other and stomped the living daylights out of ourselves. It was the most fun I've had in pubs in a long long time.
Point being is.. Yeah it sucks getting stomped but it's just gonna happen regardless of what gear people are allowed to use.
There needs to be a solo Merc only mode. Something simple like solo ambush with 12 v 12 and 30 clones. Sometimes people just want a quick lobby shooter feel to dust. I think we should allow people choose how to have their fun. At least that's my humble opinion on the topic. |

Weekends are the worst, I cant get three wins today. I agree 4 man squads would be better, three probably even better. A 12 on 12 no squad mode would be cool. Is there really going to be a meta level lockout. I dont believe it, in two years the proto stomp has just became worse with every build. I dont think ccp wants it to change.
Its all about the squad. Whats going on in fw and pc, doesnt anyone play those modes? I thought that is where the protostomping squad types would want to be, playing against each other.
I have scrambler level 5 proficiency, and cant remember when I last pulled out a viziam. It doesnt help me anyway, I die before i can find someone to shoot most the time. I cant afford to lose 10 proto weapons every game. I am getting tired of being killed by it, I think I will go try it. |

Maybe we could have an option on the public contract screen, like how we can pick which game modes to play, and have the option to be put in matches that allow proto suit usage.
Yea, its not the best and it doesn't really solve the squad-stomping, but it does alleviate the full proto squad-stomping. The reason to not allow the suits only is because if you were to fit any lower-tier suit, you have bigger restrictions on fitting capability and slots, therefore making the output and performance of the overall fitting be limited. So yes, one can still put on proto modules/ weapons / or equipment, but in one part of the suit or another, something may have to be downgraded to be able to fit the suit.
Maybe this solution paired with another could make this game a little more level for newer players and solo players. |

Fact 1) which ever way the vets try and cut it, new players get stomped and leave because every pub game has at least one proto squad on the opposing side that is, all said and done, functionally unstoppable. Yes you might kill a few of them, but 50mil sp+ vets rocking top tier gear will and do dominate, both in terms of KDR and the actual match outcome. New players will not hang around and wait to play catch up, counting on the few lucky kills they can scrape from a match to keep them happy. They. Will. Just. Leave. And this is a proble, for all of us to solve.
Fact 2)aforementioned proto stompers have every right to run the gear they have fought hard to earn. It's the nature of the beast we call Dust. You cannot design a skill and gear system that rewards invested play time with ever-expanding bonuses and then just cap them arbitrarily in game mode X/Y/Z. This too will kill player retention, because the vets will feel like they've been cheated out of their just rewards and new players will wonder why to bother investing so and ISK into gear and skills in the first place. Another problem for all of us to fix.
I honestly believe that tiercide across all suits types and tiers is the only true answer. We need to move away from suits gaining benefits from skills which also give access to better suits which can fit more modules which are themselves bonused and sporting weapons that can demolish whatever is put in front of them that isn't also a gold X standard. Layers upon layers of advantages that no new player, or even mid-tier players such as myself, can reliably overcome. Skills and suits should make you better, yes, but in less obvious ways than more HP stacking and 40% raw damage buffs. That's just insane. Pull the whole thing apart and be smarter with how we make mercs better soldiers.

i admit to enjoying running proto in matches as much as the next merc but when a herd of mercs with proto Scrambler rifles and core f*ck grenades its ridiculous and presents a problem... i propose to restrict proto weapons (or maybe proto suits) to attempt some sort of balence...
as for the herd of squads dominating solos and rarely facing a MATCHED squad, i propose implementing a some sort of use of the total data of spent skill points of each player and time spent IN game in a given squad, time to be the deciding variable of how many skill points are too many.
take this and modify it as you will, this is just an idea but if you guys can spit ball ideas on how to make this better but we need to stop proto stomping squads some how... Join a squad, this is a team game not "Call Of Duty TM" Proto squad will stomp a not-proto squad. The issues are real. Even if few people can articulate them well in a post.
Dust isn't meant to be fair. If it was, there would be no progression.
