I don't mean the mechanics, mind you, but rather, the issue of player trust. I know there are scams that go on right and left in these forums, and all that comes to mind is two parties saying back and forth "No, you send the item first and then you get the money" or something to that effect. I'm rather concerned this will set things back quite a few steps, and I can't help but worry that someone will end up trying to scam me at some point or another, so I pose a question.
How will trust be built among this community? Will it be on a client by client basis, will there be threads detailing the experiences had with other players, or will everyone just toss their money at the screen and hope something good comes back? I'm quite excited for the possibility to trade, but I fully intend to be the one sending the items secondly so I don't get ripped off and I wonder if that will make individuals less likely to want to risk trading with someone like myself who has no real reputation within the community.

Thanks for saving me the time of clearing that up, Deezy. Took me a moment to realize that everyone isn't up to date on the current ideas. Seems like the current method is just going to be using whatever code they implemented for trading Isk... which begs the question of why we haven't gotten this sooner if it's doing the same thing.

Unfortunately new players who do not know to come to the forums are in for a rough time.
I do not think this is how it should be at all. The lack of developers dictates we take the simplest route possible I suppose. It is a bid odd to me that they would take so long to end up going with code that really 1 dev could build and test in under a week.

Well, isn't this just a scary thought...
So we all have to hope not to be ripped off when trading officer or BPO gear....
Well, Crimson, I'll tell you this: I'll send you the money (that would be agreed upon), then I'll receive said item.
There should be some system in which you could rate your experience on trading on a person-to-person basis. So if its a successful trade, they get a rating like 10/10; if it's a scammer, they get 0/10. Even if you do get it, but its delayed (by hours or days) they'll get like 5/10 or 7/10 depending on how much time they took -- or if they were just trolling you.

Im probably one of the only ones excited that its going to be in a simple format. I intend to make ISK by being a middleman/distributor in various trades.
The idea is to start small. I start by buying/selling a few officer weapons or proto gear. Then, as trust builds up, youll trust me to come through all the time. If I get 2 people like that, they can exchange high value goods between eachother though me, with both paying me a reasonable fee.
Ill have to be able to convince alot of people that its more important to me that I have a name good enough to make profit off of rather than taking the change out of the "take a penny, leave a penny" and running.
But, like all things in this game, corporations/teamwork could help. The way im planning to roll out my new company once trading hits is not so much to spend alot of time at the base retail level, winning over random person after random person, but rather to get bigger, more stable contracts from corporations by either endorsement or sourcing. If I can get someone high up in a active corp to say "Yeah, this guy and his company are a reliable go to guy for officer weapons if you need to stock up", well that gives me a base to work with and more good worth of mouth circulating.
I dont know. I like the idea of their being a ingame economy with alot of jobs. And I also like the idea of being able to win over a customer base entirely because of trust. Over time, just being me could be profitable, because people shopping will go with a "for sure, no scam" person they recognize instead of a sketchy person they dont recognize, even if my price is higher. Makes for a interesting meta.
Also, for the record, just like you, i have no reputation within the community and am generally unknown. Its a challenge im excited about though, as brand recognition is just another part of building a successful business. |

Actually, I was thinking the Code Bazaar could evolve into a player trading thing.
There are rules already set in there that prevent from scamming. If there is a scam, CCP could get involved and shut down the scammer and reimburse the victim.
Trustworthy Middlemen could potentially help the situation, but what if the Middleman is in on the scam? Who can you trust? This is why I believe the Code Bazaar section of the forums needs to evolve and prepare for the simple player trading.

I want it to be like schematics trading in AC4/FA (at least something was right :/ )
Where both parties agree to the trading terms. Once you agree there Is no turning back.
As for a risk kind of thing, include a black market - esque feel. you won't exactly know what the person is selling, but the description of the item should be enough.

That's my general worry, that no one is going to be trusting enough to exchange goods, or that the market will be exceptionally slow in starting up.

@Kaze
I highly doubt CCP will incorporate this. It would be nice, but they seem to encourage the scamming process, obviously with in game money, as it adds depth to the economy and helps bring real world aspects into what would otherwise be just a game for so many people.

I'm hoping it works like Monopoly online:
-It would be two charts with adjoining chat. -On the left chart trader 1 would offer an item. -On the right trader 2 would offer ISK and/or exchange of items. -If trader 1 agrees he can except the deal. If not he can modify both his and trader 2's proposal. -If trader 2 accepts then they trade. If not then trader 2 makes a counter deal.
This would go back and forth until a deal is reached or broken. Though would ensure no one gets left empty handed.

And wave them side to side.

This is definitely the kind of thing I'm looking forward to seeing, players building up their own business within Dust through trustworthy negotiations. I can't wait to be a part of this kind of player interaction, free to play game or not, I've got quite a few hours invested in Dust and it'll be nice for the community to be able to come together in a true player market.

Well because it's simple trading, this is how I see it going down.
Well first off, the power is in the hand of the seller. They control the prices, they can take the money without finishing the trade, and there's no one that can stop them.
There will be three kinds of sellers.
1. Unknown History - Someone you don't know too well... 2. Untrustworthy - Someone you know well for being a scumbag or has build up an established rep for bad trading 3. Trustworthy - Someone that you know well or has build up an established rep for respectable trading
1 and 2 will get the least business simply because no one will want to go to untrustworthy or unknown folks. Even if they have good loot.
The 3rd group, Trustworthy traders, will have the most business. Whether it's just a single player, like Sgt. Kirk, or a whole corp, they'll have their own system in place and will be willing to work with their customer to keep the deal sweet. More than likely they will not screw over people as they know they have a rep to keep. If they're going to swindle someone, it's going to be either through an alt, pricing, or with a lot of cleverness.
