I know there are scams that go on right and left in these forums, and all that comes to mind is two parties saying back and forth "No, you send the item first and then you get the money" or something to that effect. I'm rather concerned this will set things back quite a few steps, and I can't help but worry that someone will end up trying to scam me at some point or another, so I pose a question.
How will trust be built among this community? Will it be on a client by client basis, will there be threads detailing the experiences had with other players, or will everyone just toss their money at the screen and hope something good comes back? I'm quite excited for the possibility to trade, but I fully intend to be the one sending the items secondly so I don't get ripped off and I wonder if that will make individuals less likely to want to risk trading with someone like myself who has no real reputation within the community.
Im probably one of the only ones excited that its going to be in a simple format. I intend to make ISK by being a middleman/distributor in various trades.
The idea is to start small. I start by buying/selling a few officer weapons or proto gear. Then, as trust builds up, youll trust me to come through all the time. If I get 2 people like that, they can exchange high value goods between eachother though me, with both paying me a reasonable fee.
Ill have to be able to convince alot of people that its more important to me that I have a name good enough to make profit off of rather than taking the change out of the "take a penny, leave a penny" and running.
But, like all things in this game, corporations/teamwork could help. The way im planning to roll out my new company once trading hits is not so much to spend alot of time at the base retail level, winning over random person after random person, but rather to get bigger, more stable contracts from corporations by either endorsement or sourcing. If I can get someone high up in a active corp to say "Yeah, this guy and his company are a reliable go to guy for officer weapons if you need to stock up", well that gives me a base to work with and more good worth of mouth circulating.
I dont know. I like the idea of their being a ingame economy with alot of jobs. And I also like the idea of being able to win over a customer base entirely because of trust. Over time, just being me could be profitable, because people shopping will go with a "for sure, no scam" person they recognize instead of a sketchy person they dont recognize, even if my price is higher. Makes for a interesting meta.
Also, for the record, just like you, i have no reputation within the community and am generally unknown. Its a challenge im excited about though, as brand recognition is just another part of building a successful business. |
