I honestly don't understand what people think is good behavior and bad behavior, It does not seem to be based on logic.
I don't like the fact I have given up on AFKing, it feels like I have caved in to peer pressure. The objections to it seem so irrational and pathetic, I did literally smile when I noticed two people my team AFKed. |

It is because this is a team based game. When a player afk's, he is effectively playing for the enemy team, because 1/16th of the team is no longer available to go do things. When four players are afk, that's 1/4 of the team out of commission. When 8 players afk, the field is then 16 vrs 8, 2 to 1. A terrible, utter, unfun stomp.
Afking is bad because it severely impacts the gameplay for every member of both teams committed to the battle.

By weakening your team by one player, you are making their game much harder, more frustrating, and worsening their player experience and enjoyment of the game.
Why do you AFK when actively participating in a match even with start fits earns a substantially higher reward and allows the match to progress faster?
AFKing is especially unforgivable when in FW, as winning/losing has a drastic effect on payouts.

You honestly don't understand why people dislike those players who abstain from helping in a team based game? Let's use any team endeavor as an example, like a professional sporting event. Every player on each side will draw a contractually guaranteed salary for taking the field, regardless of their performance, with certain bonus incentives encouraging them to play at the highest level they can. Now imagine if a player on one team decided that they weren't going to participate in the game, that they are going to simply stand on the field while their team attempts to beat their opponent while playing at a disadvantage. For the purposes of this analogy keep in mind that this selfish player will still draw their basic salary. How would the teammates of this player feel about this decision?
It's difficult to say that games have a "Social Contract" in quite the same way the rest of society does, but considering that playing DUST is a completely voluntary endeavor and we're all here to have fun and compete with one another it strikes me as odd that some people would choose to AFK instead of enjoying the game.
In conclusion, I sincerely hope you're a troll.

The key here is that you were trying, at least. You were trying to learn how to use tools to help your team. Sitting in the MCC taking up a spot on your team's roster isn't trying, it's giving up. Going 2/16, while it costs your team clones, is better than going 0/0 because it at least means you're attempting to help.

If it was an actual profession sporting event they would hate the person that just stood there in the same way as they would hate a player without natural ability, So I should hate players on my team without natural ability.

Your point is sonewhat valid, playing with unskilled players on your team is very frustrating. But a player that is selfish and lazy is worse by far. I will take clueless blueberries straight out of the academy over AFKers any day of the week.

You don't get it.
Practicing your flying skills means that enemy AV will try to engage you. If there is enemy AV, there are less people hunting infantry.
And using a PLC is fun. So that isn't even a valid 'complaint'
Edit: Also, you don't have anywhere else to practice. So...
Edit 2: I still feel that you are a troll.

I'm sure you can find many arguments on the internet on why it is wrong if you so desire, that will reward your curiosity far more then arguing in this forum.
In the end, only the following matters from a practical standpoint:
Almost every game has anti-AFK measures, every community as a majority (You are the minority) hates AFKers and pushes for their extermination/removal.
Adapt, as arguing about it on the slim chance that you are not a troll will change nothing. You are conducting socially unacceptable behavior for this given community and are being punished accordingly.

Me personally , I don't give a frack and why should I .?. you can scam players out of BPO codes , ISK's , Corporations , Suits / Vehicles by TK and some other crooked methods , hell glitches and bugs scam me out of enjoying this game half the time and who am I to tell somebody else what to do when the rules are so clearly stated that there are none for the most part , now ... do I want that on my team .?. hell no and that's because I have a hard enough time running solo as it is and I like it that way but I don't need any additional baggage weighing me / the team that I happen to be on , down .
It's not for me to tell you not to do it , it's for you to already understand that it's not helpful .
Doubts are like flies and should be treated as such and crushed .

A chance of imbalance is irrefutably better odds then guaranteeing a worse imbalance, and your behavior aggravates players and is easily noticeable thus prone for punishment.
My previous post still stands.
You may naturally attempt to AFK if you want to, but you will be punished accordingly. Your arguments about it are changing nothing.

The real reason everyone should care about AFKing, that no one has mentioned, is it costs teammates ISK.
Fewer teammates pushing objectives means the players that ARE playing are outnumbered. And therefore dieing more. And therefore losing ISK.
So I mean, sure you can AFK and cost your team ISK.
Just be grateful this is not MAG and there is no vote kick option. Hope that never gets implemented, because AFK enough and people will remember your name and you'll never get an isk or SP again. |

Rookies are generally not great but can have the potential to be. When you were learning how to fly, you were the rookie learning the ropes. The only way to get better is by doing.
AFKing is the same as your favourite sports team having a player on field that just stand in one spot watching everything happen.

You as a player will "get better" thus in the long run helping your future teams.
Either way, arguing about it on the forums is a terrible way to go about things when there are whole essays on the internet of why AFKing is bad.
Have fun!

Because people can empathise with someone starting out and not being good at the game.
