Hey all, I'm just coming back from an extended break from DUST and I see a decent bit has changed from when I last played (about a month after scouts came along.) I'm sitting on 5.3 mil SP (28mil total) and i'm not sure what to train into, aside from potentially maxing my fitting skills from 4 to 5, though atm I don't see much need for that. I don't have a much interest in heavy suits, so i'm looking at medium or light frames and weapons to go with them.
For suits I have Amarr assault 5, amarr logi 5 (and related equipments 5), cal scout 3. Dropsuit Upgrade skills I have maxed armor, lvl 3 in all shield skills, not much in biotics. Weapons are scrambler rifle, combat rifle, and flaylock prof. 4, and most other weapons at basic or advanced
So here are my current thoughts:
I'm noticing a LOT LESS scouts than when I left the game, which is a nice sight. Even still I'm thinking about picking up the Amarr scout and getting the dropsuit electronics upgrades to go with it. Did they make it any faster, so that the Minmatar assault doesn't out run it anymore? And since I already have Cal scout 3, is there a big enough difference between Cal and Amarr to justify it?
I could train into Minmatar assault since I have combat rifles trained pretty high, but SMG is just 3. I don't know if it would be worth the investment, I don't often notice a big difference in fights between having a bit less clip size. Plus, I love the flaylock too much to use anything else (even before they increased the clip size to 4!!)
Rail rifles feel a lot more steady and reliable than when I last played, so getting prof. 4 for those may not be a bad idea, though I don't think I would train Cal assault solely for that weapon. If the rail pistol is worthwhile I may consider it, I haven't tried it yet though.
Do any other weapons or suits stand out in particular atm? From what I can tell in pub matches all weapons seem to be on even footing with each other. In PC it used to be you were either a heavy, scout, amarr logi, or in a tank/ADS. Has the PC meta changed much from that? |

My intention isn't to blindly follow the fotm, I just want to gauge what is popular and make a decision based on that and what I know about the game :) |

If you can fork out $20 for a respec, get one and reallocate all your SP into fitting, core, and passive skills. From there, you'll have enough SP leftover to probably get 2 Proto Dropsuits (go Amarr Assault) and maybe a main weapon and sidearm to at least Proficiency 3.

Amarr scouts are in a bad place again. There was a period of time where they had a decent role, but some of the changes negated that. You could probably run them if you wish, but there will be some difficulties, and no real role to play.
Minmatar Assaults are considered the new FotM. Use that info as you will.

I would invest most of that into your core skills first, then get a few suits/weapons to lvl1 and play around a bit. There are a lot of interesting fits out there, with no true fotm. I personally like a damaged modded caldari commando with a rail rifle and tac sniper.

Thanks for the replies. Not goint to respec since I already have a solid setup and can flesh out my support skills and then some with 5.3mil. That's sad that amarr scouts still aren't up to par. I guess i'll keep mulling over it and at least get fitting stuff to 5.
So the PC meta hasn't changed drastically since assaults were replaced by scouts when they came out? |

If you want some fun with new suits : try minja and minmando. If you want to follow all the cool 'FotM' kids : go with minmatar assault.
