I generally prefer the assault rail for 2 main points
Firstly it's increased rate of fire makes it more versitale, it retains its accuracy and power at range while still being able to lay down a high volume of fire off the hip in close quarters, good for fighting fast moving targets in close quarters. Summarily it has good aimed fire while still working as a spray n pray weapon
Secondly the lack of an optic, while making long range marksmanship more challenging, it gives the user a wider field of view when aiming, improving situational awareness, while not making ranged automatic fire unfeasible
Overall the rail weakness is it's recoil, if you are having difficulty keeping the weapon on target, it can be goid practice to separate your magazine into 2-3 long bursts
In conclusion, while both weapona perform admirably at long-medium range, it's the close range versatility that brings the assault rail into a more general purpose role
Both variants are available for testing in the militia gear section of the market, though the militia assault rail has a bug in its spool up time and it should be the same as the regular rail rifle
I hope this has answered your query effectively, if not feel free to question further
Good Hunting

Assault C/1-Series 2 Complex shield extenders 2 enhanced shield recharger 1 enhanced reactive plate 1 enhanced shield regulator SB-39 Rail Rifle SR-25 Bolt Pistol Locus grenade Nanite injector
489 shield 236 armor 55.19 hp shield regen 3.5hp/s armor 3.68 / 5.05 shield delays
Regulation & Recharging are insanely good on caldari suits due to already high shield recharge values. This fit requires a bit higher cpu / pg skills to fit everything nicely, but otherwise it's a really durable fit.

The above fit is very much what you should be aiming for My personal fit is less durable and more focused on the regen aspect
2 Enhanced Shield Extenders 2 Enhanced Shield Regulators 2 Enhanced Shield Energizers Sl4 Assault Rail Rifle Sr-25 Bolt Pistol M1 Grenade Kin 12 Injector
Notes:
in combat against anti shield weapons these fittings survivability is extremely low, so substituting a regulator in a low slot for extra armour plating is common practice
If you feel you are lacking on HP, using rechargers over energizers will allow for approx 10% greater hp, as well as using 3 extenders and 1 regen mod are good choices
Flux grenades can help you deal with harder targets, removing their shielding allowing u to gain maximum dmg against their armour
Using a nanohive that repairs armour as well can help you recover lost armour quickly while also giving u a source of resupply
The Caldari assaults reload bonus synergies well with the shieldregen style, dropping into cover for a reload while allowing your shields to begin recharging
Overall be mindful that without logistics support, you will always regen hp faster than other fittings once your shields begin relighting, hit them, wound them, give yourself a handful of seconds to recover, then FINISH THEM!!
Hope this helps,
Good hunting

There's some conflicting views... Due to the lack of a low slot at level one they struggle with armor repairing issues, they've also got long shield delays, low shield recharge, low stamina and bad ewar, this is sort of a persistent problem throughout the commando role though. Minmatar commandos also get a lot of attention for the 'bonus' they get to swarm launchers which is somewhat unintended.
The trade off though, is that (should you choose to) running three complex light damage mods on a proto suit with level 5 skills gives you about a 32% increase to light rail dps, jumping you from ~330dps on a std rail rifle all the way up to around 480 dps before bonus to armor or proficiency. Commandos hit unbelievably hard and murder armor with impunity, a few squadmates have been surprised by the dps that they put out over huge ranges.
I would almost never recommend them for sniping because primarily I feel that sniping is a broken role/weapon. An advanced cal commando with a rail rifle & swarm launcher is able to engage a huge range of targets at long distance with competence and confidence.
Commando's are a pretty wonderful class to play if you're unsure of what the changing nature of a battle will bring or if you want to hit EXTRA hard. As far as the caldari go the bare minimum standard for play is the advanced suit, they provide a lot of versatility in weapon selection. If you've never played in a commando squad you're totally in for a treat.

They're incredibly hard to squeeze in, I think it might be possible to work one in instead of a recharger/energizer somewhere but it means giving up something elsewhere... the tradeoff might even be having to downgrade to a std rail and then only having an enhanced damage mod. Which is exactly the same as using an advanced rail.

If we say for example u want to use it in a support fire role such as a swarm launcher or tactical sniper the fit can be adapted, obviously your hp and regen will be compromised
I would suggest 2 extenders 2 dmg mods, or perhaps 1 extender 1 regen 2 dmg
But no in conclusion I do not bother with dmg mods on my assaults (except the Raesetsu), but I generally use the commando for support fire roles
A minmatar once told me, it's not how big the knife is, it's how you use it

Speaking on commandos
The Calmando is an excellent sqd asset, on its own it's low shield regen makes it susceptible to being over whelmed easily
The 2 armament choices I use are; assault rail/tactical sniper. Or as mina said Rail Rifle/swarm launcher
At adv level the calmando gets its important low slot, at this stage one has again 2 choices
Shield regulator, shield energizer and a single dmg mod, this fit greatly improves the Calmandos regen making it more survivable Or multiple dmg mods and an armour repair, as mina said above, an extremely damaging fit that few suits can openly combat at mid-long range
The choice essentially resides with the player, regen or dmg Though the regen style requires very high skills to be effective
If operating in a sqd with logistical support id recommend
Dmg mods and armour plating and an injector
Relying on your squad for armor repair and close range ewar and fire support, having the injector makes you a handy extra option should your sqd suffer casualties e.g the logi gets hit The rail rifle and swarm launcher giving your sqd that hard punch in either attack or defence

Hello, I'm new to the game and I was wondering how you would fit a standard Caldari Assault Suit or Basic Medium Suit. It will still be some time before I can use advanced assault suits, and I don't think I have enough money yet to run them either.
Right now I'm using the "Frontline - CA starter fit" and it looks like a "light" version of the assault suits that were posted earlier in this thread
High: Militia shield extender High: Militia shield recharger
Low: Militia shield regulator
Assault rail rifle Bolt pistol Militia locus Grenade
Nano Hive ---
I was hoping you could tell me on which skills I should focus first to become a bit more survivable: get a better suit, or better shield modules? and is the basic medium frame worth using? I have to train the skill to lvl 3 so I could use a standard/advanced one before I can use assault suits and it has an extra "low" slot over the militia frame so i could put in the 2 regulators.

With assault suits, unlike heavies they're not massive upgrades over their militia or even 'medium' frames. The biggest advantage to them is the high number of slots they have and to that end they benefit most from having better support skills like shield extension, engineering and electronics.
My suggestion for skills would be Bare minimum skills to get caldari assault to 1 Get primary weapon & sidearm to level 1 Get armor plating to level 1 (basic reactive plates) Start working on shield extension to 3 (adv shield extenders) Upgrade powergrid / cpu as needed for fit (dropsuit upgrades / engineering / electronics) Work on getting shield extension to 5 and shield upgrades to 5 Get caldari assault to level 3 Work on getting electronics and engineering to 4
Once you're at this stage you should be able to fit a few complex shield extenders to your assault and standard modules elsewhere.
After this I'd recommend: get armor plates to level 3 (advanced reactive plates) get shield recharging and regulation to 3 get rifle & sidearm to 5 (optional: get proficiency in rifle to 3) get cal assault to 5 get armor upgrades to 5.

Thanks a bunch, I played the game for while about a year ago, and spent most my SP on different weapons and trying to work it all out.. got frustrated deleted my clones and uninstalled. Time for a fresh start, and now I at least have an idea on what I'm doing. To bad I didn't make a new clone and activate the passive SP before I stopped the last time :/ |

I would note that grenades are generally ineffective until you reach the proto tier or really know what you're doing with them. The damage on the lower tier grenades is fairly weak, and there's a massive jump from the lower tiers to core locus grenades. It's a big SP investment to get cores though and they're expensive, so I recommend holding off on speccing too far into the grenadier skill just yet.
MINA's advice to get enhanced shield extenders before Calassault 3 is solid. Many make the mistake of going into the higher level suits without the supporting kit. I also suggest electronics/engineering to at least 2 before going for Calassault 3 - it is quite cheap to spec these at such low levels and they are very useful skills, often known as 'core skills' because they are regarded as essential.
For your equipment skill I will strongly second Middas' recommendation of nanocircuitry - it's an excellent skill, giving you access to both nanohives and nanite injectors, both useful and nanite injectors can be immensely valuable to a team when used correctly. Do consider looking around at the other bits of equipment - drop uplinks can be a nice WP earner as well.
Finally, if you need ISK for skillbooks, send me a mail. I'll sort you out.

I'm not really sure what to put in my third low slot on the proto calass. I already use two shield regulators but a third reg barely adds anything. I was thinking of putting on a kin cat or a damp. Btw, what do you fit in the high slots? I fit 4 extenders and an energizer, it has lots of hp but average regen.

I will endorse the suggestions here. My proto fit is 3 ext, 2 eng, 2 regs and 1 reactive. 2.6 shield delay, 70 shield/sec.
But being Caldari you do have to be selective with your battles, it ins't your everyman breach and clear suit. It is more finding cover and dealing big damage when you can. You shoot them, they shoot you, you take cover, they chase, you should be back to full hp, they havent even started to regen, or barely armour rep, you got em.

Use a shotgun, or use nova knives, having both on the same fit is bad. You overspecialize at close quarters and leave yourself without any mid range options.
Switch shotgun for assault rail, or knives for magsec.

I do not like that fit, again you are limiting your range and for the cost of your proto items you could make a more rounded fit I also expect you are being detected on ewar against veteran ewar scouts, depends on your passive skills
If you want a hardcore close combat fit here's a suggestion, built on an advanced cal scout frame
Scout c/1 series
Highs 2 enhanced extenders Complex precision
Lows Enhanced profile dampner Complex reactive/Enhanced codebreaker/enhanced regulator/enhanced kinetic catalyzer
Weapons and equipment
Advanced Bolt pistol. /magsec/assault rail Advanced nova knives Advanced Locus grenades
Cloak field Injector/Nanohive
If you would prefer to keep your shotgun you can easily run it alongside a bolt pistol or magsec smg

Why do so many people suggest ADV weapons on ADV suits? Is it worth it to downgrade modules for a little bit of damage? Or is there more to it than that? I prefer to have better modules, but that's just me. Not to the mention the increase in cost from STD to ADV. I know this isn't Caldari related but I'm curious nonetheless.

Yes it is common practice to fit you dropsuits according to your tier, although as u skill your character you will have to make some choices as to what you want to prioritize.
Im guessing you're running assault, I would say that the weapon is important though costing is also a factor so putting proto items on adv fits is something I reserve for support roles, such as proto Av weapons or sniper rifles on adv frames, or proto equipment on logistics suits. As for fitting priority on adv suits here's a rough order I would suggest on what items should be fitted at higher tiers first
Adv assault Shield extenders Light weapon Grenade Low slots-armour or regulators Regen high slots-energizers/rechargers- also dmg mods Equipment Sidearm
So a common adv fit style I might use if saving fitting im different areas
Adv assault rail Basic bolt pistol Adv Frag grenade/av grenade
1 complex extender, 1 adv extender 2 basic energizers
2 Enhanced regulator Or 1 Enhanced regulator, 1 basic plate/enhanced plate/repairer
Basic Nanite injector/nanohive (sidenote: adv needles are a good item for assaults to carry, be that extra medic for your team save players money for peoples saved suits, save clones in a close run match, also generally boosts in match team morale, everyone likes saving a suit)
Hope this clears things up a bit, feel free to query further

Further note on tiers: generally as u move through tiers on rifles/pistols/smg's, the damage increases by roughly 5% per tier When coupled with high levels of proficiency and dmg mods, using a higher tier weapon becomes a greater step in dmg
However an alternate view is that simply training yourself to be more accurate and efficient with your rifle means you could forgo That extra dmg in favour of better defense/utility After all, a higher tier does just give you dmg, no extra ammo/reload/range, not to say higher skills are not useful
As for a Caldari view on things, the general philosophy talks of hitting you're enemy from beyond his range hard and fast, utterlydestroying them before they are a threat This ethos works well in defensive or overwatch play, lots of rangy dmging fits from high positions etc Not to say you can't advance to mid-close range attacks, that's where youre hit'n'run fast regen shield tactics come into play Past 5-7 seconds out of combat, an armour tanker will always regen hp slower than you (without logistics support) , so whittlethem down accross more than one engagement, use your better agility to make tactical withdrawals keeping you at range, hammering your opponent when he tries to follow

Upgrading a weapon by one tier is essentially equivalent to putting on an unpenalized advanced damage mod for light weapons, or a complex damage mod for heavy weapons.
If a weapon had 400 dps as a basic level item upgrading to the next tier would put it up to 420dps, which in theory grants more benefits in terms of faster TTK than the extra HP that going from a basic to an advanced module would provide in terms of survivability. When combined with damage mods this effect is multiplicative (420 * 1.05 = 441).
It's really situational as to what you can downgrade for modules though. Armor plates? Best bang for buck is advanced. Armor reps? Depends on your hp, but complex is generally the best around (being 3x better than basic and 50% better than adv). Shield extenders? Go complex or go home. Rechargers/Energizers? Advanced is good. Precision amps? Complex is the only thing worth using.
There's few hard and fast rules when it comes to fitting, because in the end you're looking at the overall stats of a suit and how it performs.

I apologize for not specifying that I was refering to assault suits. Anyway, you two convinced me and I will try some different fits with Adv weapons, maybe even Proto.

Just posting one of my proto logi fits quick. It's pretty skill intensive to get it to work though.
Logistics Ck.0 3x complex shield extender 2x complex precision enhancer 2x complex range amplifier 1x enhanced reactive plate 1x enhanced armor plate.
Bdr-2 repair tool Allotek Nanohive (R) Nanite injector
Rail Rifle Flux grenade.
Ends up with 443 shield, 271 armor, 25 hp/s shield (4 / 6.13s delays), 4hp/s armor rep.
48.75 meter scan radius, 27db precision. Ends up with a short range scan of 10m and 24db precision IIRC.

Skimmed through thread, so this might have already been answered does shield depleted delay happen when a dropsuit has completely exhausted its shield, or is it vice versa to regular delay?
I read that depleted delay happens only when some shield is taken off the suit, but it was on profits so it could be wrong...

Regular shield delay is how long you have to wait until the shields will start recharging again. Shield Depleted Delay is like what you already said: The amount of time you have to wait when you shield is completely depleted.

Depleted only happens when you lose all of your shields, 'standard' is for when you lose less than all of it. There is a bug/feature though that when you get depleted and start recharging but don't get full / much hp back before being depleted again it instead uses your standard delay to determine recharge.
In the case of every suit in the game except for a cal sentinel this is a positive thing, but with the cal sentinel having a longer standard delay than depleted its actually kind of bad for it.

I just skilled into Cal Scout 1, and I'm usually an armor player. How should I fit my scout 3high/1low to achieve the most time at max shields under fire? I am used to playing scout, so eHP is less important than 'immediate' and 'awesome' shield regen as it pertains to my question.
A different way to ask: should I use 1 of each shield module, and then have a free for my high fitting of choice?

Two shield extenders, One recharger, One regulator. Its the best combination of EHP, regen and delays. Spring for complex on the extenders if you can fit them.

I'll be constructive since I don't have anything better to do. I'll answer anything about Caldari vehicles and solo FW tactics. Although you really shouldn't play FW solo, especially when platoons are implemented.

I'm not aware of any, faction warfare has a lot of issues as a game mode - with it being the 'pc lite' playground.

Im not aware of any CFW channels other than kirjuun Heiian
A lot of high sp players have taken it upon themselves to assemble in closed channels for CFW which I don't bother looking into anymore
For a squad there's a few options -You could see if your corpmates want to deploy a sqd -Join a squad in the CFW warbarge via the Team bar on ur comm menus -Make a public sqd labelled as CFW and recruit via the sqd finder and the FW warbarge
Kirjuun Heiian has been intensely active from time to time so it's worth staying involved Just FW at the moment isn't very popular without the right amount of manpower
