So I have been researching droprates on strongbox gear once you open them, because im a sucker and quite literally have nothing else to spend money on atm.
I was going to do a nice table with pretty graphs and easy to read infographics.
But then tonight i got a loot so infuriating, im immediately cancelling the project and DEMANDING CCP to re-evaluate the strongbox loot tables.
22 mutha-ducking MILITIA PROFILE DAMPENERS!!
Are you frogking kidding me Frame, Ratatti and Z?
Ive opened close to 200 god-forsaken boxes to prove they are worth the AUR investment for you, but this....this is absolutely unacceptable bullsit.
Come the feck on, I didn't even know such lunacy was on the loot table until tonight.
Having such utterly terrible gear on the loot table invaldates my thesis of strongbox loot > value of key.
Ugh, it really shoots the whole thing apart, because other than MLT gear being in there, you get anywhere from 600 to 1100 in AUR gear on a drop, and Ive been holding steady at a 30% officer gear drop.
So please CCP, take that MLT poop off the table so you can possibly save some face in the box/key/aur debacle.
Why are all of you so intellectually inept?

or at least make the terrible gear a joke, like a picture of a DEV or a CPM, or minifigures of other players on the leaderboards.
Hell keep an ISK pool and put lotto tickets in there.
Then people would open the damn things...like fiends they would.

I got a SINGLE militia Caldari medium frame from the first box I opened. Fortunately, it was a mission reward key and not an Aurum one, but still. Now, I would be just fine with the idea that they could contain complete crap if keys were more common, but given how hard they are get and/or that they require REAL money, some of the contents are not ok, imo. Represents a rather poor value for the time/money.

Please send a petition with documented facts if you have experienced this.
To the best of my knowledge, and according to designs, there are only std+ items in the Strongbox, so that STD gear has a qty of 20+, and so on. Furthermore, the value of "normal" gear should be close to or above the purchase price of a key in AUR.
There "should" be no way to get either militia gear, nor a single dropsuit in a Strongbox, so please let us know.

Militia gear or not, bad mechanics is bad mechanics. The strongbox feature is another poop idea from CCP. Badly executed to boot.

People have also gotten things like skillbooks they already have or, even worse, another strongbox. Ive gotten alot of "bad" pulls (40x whisper repair tools. i have a chiron BPO). But getting stuff like milita gear, skillbooks, or strongboxes puts a damper on the prizes.

Please bear in mind, that 800 AUR would hold true as a selling price only if the key granted you an officer weapon with 100% probability, which is not the case. One player on this thread here mentioned having a roughly steady 30% drop rate for officer gear, where mine was more close to 5% on 50 keys used, which brings us to a selling price of between 2667 (factor 3.33 for 30%) and 16000 AUR (factor 20.0 for 5%). Oh, player trading this will be highly amusing. Now try to convert these Aurum prices into ISK and we're in a very funny place. |

Mr. Ratatti Sir...
Fix it please !!!
I got Skillbook once...https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2516027#post2516027
I got a Skillbook lvl 3... that I learn 1 and half year ago...
Maybe if there are two kind of stronboxes... and 2 kind of keys... could be more atractive... example:
Got Purple Strongbox... meh... you can open with a ISK or LP hacked key... and.. you got maybe 20 greanades... or 10 adv pyrus AR... that's ok but.. if you got the GOLDEN STRONGBOX... that can only be open with a GOLDEN STAINLESS AURUM KEY... and you know that it could content... 20 Phalanx Tanks... or maybe 5 Thale's ... or 1 Milita BPO submachinegun... more people would spend 600 or 1000 of aurum for these things.

Strongbox duds:
militia gear standard gear skillbooks
Strongbox recommendations:
Something relevant to the time and place of their capture. Gear probabilities should be sourced from the racial profile of the corporation you salvaged it from.
Presumably this is used as a means of accessing higher tier gear (as aurum gear has a skill bonus) that is of an opposing racial profile.
Example pub match: Amarr NPC corp playing Minmatar NPC corp gives Minmatar Aurum gear to Amarr and vice versa, granting each side (limited) access to gear they might not be skilled into.
'daily mission' Strongboxes should be from your home (station) npc corp and presumably relevant to your character's race. |

lol strongboxes are a joke. the past 3 weeks I have cut my dust way down on all 3 guys. just enough to finish the dailies if not aurum missions are there lol. like active instant boost BULL. combined I have over 1200+ strongboxes and if I kept up my playing as before I bet I would be around 1600-1800 boxes. the sad part is my keys I got a grand total of 12. so going by that I would have about 16-18 keys. 1 key for 100 boxes? what a joke. if I could sell the boxes or just delete them I would not mind but having that stupid orange light that is there and where the boosters are bugs me a lot. let me turn that stupid thing off. I saw a video on youtube of a guy opening a box just to have another box inside it lol how screwed up is that. |

I have received 1x caldari medium frame. At least u got a bunch of garbage. I just got 1 piece of ... Stuff suit.
That was a skillbook bud. :) not that it makes much difference.

These two items have been located, and indeed put on the extermination list. Special thanks to Soldner for the email.

Maybe my thinking is just wrong for a game as "meticulous" as Dust is trying to be, butGǪ I often think that players (and perhaps CCP as well) take all the aspects of this game too seriously, and don't leave enough aspects for "just plain fun".
We have a powerful mechanic for earning ISK, and a mechanic for grinding SP, and are finally developing a mechanic for recycle/second-hand gear pawnshop selling.
It's nice that there is now an introduction to this thing called strongboxes-n-keys, but does it HAVE to be a diehard reliable component for making more money and loot? Can't it be just for entertainment and curiosity fun?
I picture this "Lore" related concept, that Ponto-Corp is about to assault District 2 on Bille, and the garrison of officers and researchers on District 2 were in such a hurry to jump ship and flee, they left half their luggage and possessions behind. We conquerers pick up the luggage (strongboxes) and shove em in the back of our dropships as we return to our waiting MCCsGǪ we DON'T look forward to finding any substantial valuable war-gear in theses boxes--they're just flotsam. We get our pay from the Client, and our weapons from the dusty battlefield---we shouldn't care about what's in ladies' suitcases, beyond lampoon-entertainment while we're drinking down a Quafe after a good day of slaughtering a District.
And the Lore concept kinda fits. What IS wrong with strongboxes having random personal possessions in them? What's wrong with us just having some dev-fun between matches, cracking open these boxes and finding hilarious curiosity valuables (not necessarily battle-useful gear all the time)? I'd enjoy this game immensely if (along with some of the Officer's weapons and rare BPOs), CCP made 50% of the strongboxes with these kinds of surprise gear:
--A strongbox containing 10 copies of a Templar Dropsuit (that some Amarr diplomat was keeping as a memento)
--A box containing 1 million ISK PLUS a single copy of a CCP Officer's Scrambler Pistol (described as belonging to CCP Bolly who hoped to use the ISK and pistol only as a last resort in a serious jam).
--A box with 5 copies of a Quafe drop suit PLUS a redemption code for 5 copies of a HAV model from Chromosome)
--A strongbox containing 5000 ISK PLUS a lonely Decryptor Key. (Win some, you lose someGǪ)
--A strongbox containing 30 Decryptor Keys PLUS one sidearm (some greedy researcher was stealing his fellow workers' keys---that Son Of A ___!)
--A strongbox containing a Skillbook for Prototype Logistics Gallente Dropsuits.
--A box that contains 10 copies of FIVE different Vehicle Modules (Advanced versions only)
--A box that contains 20 copies of FIVE different "Karin Midular" Tribute - Minmatar Officer weapons (described in the menu as a tribute to the Karin Midular of Eve lore).
--A box filled with 50 copies of FOUR different Biotics Modules (all Advanced versions) PLUS one "Black Eagles Officer" Decryptor Key (has the black-ops ability to open 30 random strongboxes)
All these things are conceivable in persons' private cargo containers, they all make sense for the game, and have enough really valuable goodies in them to make more of us willing to pay Aurum for Decryptor keys. They also give us and CCP the opportunity to get scandalous and FUN----not treat the Strongobx mechanic as one essential core resource that MUST FOLLOW a essential purpose.
Can't we have some things in Dust as, just humorous FUN!

Interesting. Opened all 6 of my keys today
1x Gallente medium dropsuit
19x Broadside MH-82 hmg
20x Phantasm ARN-18 cloak field
6x Defender Special Issue Mk II-C
31x Construct Viziam ScP
1x Rattati's modified gk.0
*Remembers how much AUR each key costs* *Resolves not to bother with them in future* *sigh*
