Elite dangerous is really bad, wait atleast a year before you even bother trying it, its very incomplete.

Elite: Dangerous is definitely currently far from EVE. So is Star Citizen, which is also playable. (The two games are arguably similar levels of "complete", but one has chosen to call theirs released 1.0, and one has chosen to say theirs is a work in progress.) But both have development plans that will eventually start to heavily encroach on EVE Online.

I miss those days.
Hopefully after the Valkyrie promo is launched this year we can get past the prototype stage of PL.

I really hope star citizen does well and delivers some of the stuff i've read, hell the only thing it needs to do is allow 2 players to crew the same ship and it will have my partner and I buying copies and playing for ages, I don't think games like these will kill eve, just the opposite a bit of competition will force it to innovate, Legion is probably being held back and refined so they can deploy it as SC gets released, stealing a bit of their thunder, as an FPS it is already miles ahead of the stuff i've seen from SC add in their experience from dust and having much better machines to design it for, legion has the potential to be an awesome add on to eve.

Why is everybody of the opinion, that the single shard universe is good for legion?
I think this single server aproach is the biggest problem for any fps experience. You see that in many pc's and fw matches. If there is ever a bigger involvement of eve pilots in dust/legion, the lag will be unbearable.
This will (hopefully) not a problem in SC, since the load can be spread better.
I don't think we will see legion anytime soon, since CCP needs to bring more than just a shiny version of dust, they need to give us much more gameplay value or it will not be worth to play it. |

Mainly because it is a lobby shooter and not an MMORPG.

You know that even in a single shard universe, everything is run on multiple servers interconnected right?
Eve and the ships in space are on their own clusters of servers, dust and the clones on others, there doesn't need to be a huge amount of traffic between the two, ship announces its in space above the district and ready to fire, probably a few bytes of traffic, dust soldier points to somewhere to shoot, ship shoots, animation plays in dust some people die and a few more bytes transfer to eve saying who died in what suit.
The lag problems in dust are more likely a result of the way the game is built rather then the servers its on, though with the game in its twilight they probably aren't paying top dollar for hosts.

Because being a single server, where i don;t need to go "hey john you play legion? nice what server? oh.. crap.. i'm on terra, yea i know i can make a new char on mars, but i'd loose my current sp's. Well nice playign with you bud, maybe in another game." Is awesome.
And being able to maybe in the future connect more to eve and be a part of that storyline will be easier if its a single server. Everyone playing together is how mmo's should be. Not all the Americans play the Americans, the Russians the Russians, etc
And yes i had that before, when i played earth and beyond, i first joined alpha centori, played a few hours, then my friends all told me they were on orion.
Same happpened in EQ set it was my friend who was on the wrong server.
WoW as well, i played that for a day, but made a char on a different server then my friends. |
