While there is no plans right now for an announcement, this is after all CCP we are talking about. No dust or legion stuff, makes many think, and some CPM kinda hinted at, that fan fest will be eve and Valk heavy. However, just because dust/legion won;t have a key note, doesn;t mean it wont have a round table, where you might some basic info. It also doesn't mean that during CCP Presents, which is the key note about all CCP's projects, and more recently, New Eden as a whole, they coudl decide to give 5-10 min to Legion/Dust and announce something. It would be relitivly simple to do. But honestly, don;t hold your breath.
As a long time eve player, i am happy with the silence. I'd rather CCP remain quite about stuff thats not quite set in stone, then have loose lips, and promise something, then reneg on it later. Or have lose lips and say something that is totally unplanned, or not how they ment it, and we have yet another disaster on our hands ala Rouge Wedding. But we will see. |

Soraya Xel wrote:Yeah, it's already been stated there will likely be roundtables. Just because things tend to get said when devs talk, I wouldn't be shocked if one or two tidbits of information that weren't public before were said during Fanfest. But don't expect a playable Legion on the floor. Don't expect a beta invite. Etc. No big announcement means none of the sort of stuff that people write blog articles about and such.
My guess, is, the only type of announcement, if ccp changed there mind would simply be Hilmar stating that legion was greenlite, and thats it. Beyond that, yea i agree. And even THAT type of announcement i'm not holding my breath for, i'm just stating that untill its all said and done, ccp could change there minds. But at least roundtables will be good. |

Um... Valkyrie's in more direct competition with Star Citizen than Legion is. o_o
No! You got that wrong here, StarCitizen is more like EVE Online, Valkyrie, and Dust 514/Legion combined. It offers the big capital ship fleets, sure not as massive as EVE ones, but still. All of the trading, mining, pirating, economy stuff, etc. Its got the little fighters, so Valkyrie, AND its got the FPS aspect on the ground, on space stations, and on board of ships! Of-course you can argue StarCitizen is not even out yet, and its all for most part on paper. But at-least thats what the concept is. Only big difference between the EVE universe and StarCitizen universe is that EVE is mostly player influenced (which I prefer btw), StarCitizen is going to be 90% NPC, and 10% player driven.
The funny thing about concepts... is they look nice on paper and in scripted non completed demo's but are a totally different animal when deployed. I'm betting 90% of what people think SC will be, will be gutted. And SC is instanced, sharded, mess.
EVE is not. *shrugs* |

I totally agree with you here. And Dust 514 would be the PERFECT example as to how concepts can look amazing, and then turn out half ass. And how demos and trailers can throw us off, CCP proved all of that. BUT, I will disagree with you when it comes to StarCitizen, with 68 Million dollars and counting, open development directly with the fans, its hard to fail. Also, everything they promised so far, from hangars, to the Arena Commander module, they've delivered on. You're right about SC being instanced tho, they just simply can't have everyone be anywhere at the same time, CryEngine limitations, especially with the level of fidelity they're going after. But, in-case you didn't know, the universe WILL be persistent, so if you find a jump point, or if you kill this badass NPC pirate, or claim a piece of territory, it will be YOU and just you who did it. That NPC won't respawn, that territory won't be there for others to capture, etc.
Look up freelancer.

See and this is speculation. There is no universe to play in. All there is is a dogfight sim. Untill the game is fully out, all parts, and working together, you honestly don't know what it will look like. Just like EVE, Valk, and Legion, we have zero idea how or if they will be interconencted, or how valk and legion will fully play. No idea at all. Because, even if CCP comes out right now and says that legion and eve will be linked, and we can do all this amazing stuff... it doesn't matter until you can play and do said amazing stuff. Thats the thing. The hype around SC is a bit.. mmm crazy. CR's rack record really is not that good. hes about 50/50 on hit or miss, if you count his POS movie. I can tell you tons of examples where something was said to come to game and got canned. Or where people thought 'omg that looks so amazing' on paper, then played it and went.. 'wow that really sucks to play' its always good to have a bit of perspective, be excited for a game sure, but over hyping is just asking for you to be crushed.
And TBH, even if SC came out with EVERYTHING CR wants, it still is not really a direct competitor to legion, eve, or valk. Different game play elements, that will appeal to different people. Me for example have zero intrest in a sharded world. Or a 90% run npc economy. or tons of other turn offs. Just as there will be a lot of people who wo;t want to touch legion, and tons who froth at the mouth for it. Its how it works. There is actually room for every game to be played by people. So the argument is a bit dumb, esp when you only have like 1/5th of anything playable from SC. (dog fight, and a space barbie place) But i'm interested to see what happens, cause lets face it, ED and SC putting some pressure on CCP and lighting a fire under there asses to take risk and make inovation to EVE and Dust is a GOOD thing. Just don;t pin all your hopes on it. |

Mad Syringe wrote:Why is everybody of the opinion, that the single shard universe is good for legion?
I think this single server aproach is the biggest problem for any fps experience. You see that in many pc's and fw matches. If there is ever a bigger involvement of eve pilots in dust/legion, the lag will be unbearable.
This will (hopefully) not a problem in SC, since the load can be spread better.
I don't think we will see legion anytime soon, since CCP needs to bring more than just a shiny version of dust, they need to give us much more gameplay value or it will not be worth to play it.
Because being a single server, where i don;t need to go "hey john you play legion? nice what server? oh.. crap.. i'm on terra, yea i know i can make a new char on mars, but i'd loose my current sp's. Well nice playign with you bud, maybe in another game." Is awesome.
And being able to maybe in the future connect more to eve and be a part of that storyline will be easier if its a single server. Everyone playing together is how mmo's should be. Not all the Americans play the Americans, the Russians the Russians, etc
And yes i had that before, when i played earth and beyond, i first joined alpha centori, played a few hours, then my friends all told me they were on orion.
Same happpened in EQ set it was my friend who was on the wrong server.
WoW as well, i played that for a day, but made a char on a different server then my friends. |
