ive noticed in game that everyone complains about proto stompers. then as soon as they get the opportunity what do they do? throw on their full proto suit and stomp lol. im guilty I admit , so I don't complain about it. I find it funny. i have been in many full proto squads were my squadmates are complaining that nyan san only beat us that round because they were proto stomping. um... so were we.
i know im not the only one who sees this. at this point in the game most of us have full proto gear. |

Yeah, I like to ask people if they had a lambo setting in the garage would they not drive it because everyone else on the road is gonna be upset?
It's your gear, you earned it and you payed for it one way or another through work. Be you earning isk in game or your paying money you actually worked for to spend arum. I say use it or there is no point of having it :D

What feels better than killing a proto suit in a cheap suit? tea bagging then double tapping them for the termination of their clone. if your lucky you can wait for a troll medic then kill them upon revival. nothing beats that feeling. |

The first 20 months I played this game, I never used Prototype gear. At least not a Prototype Suit or weapon because I was saving money. Now I do because I realized that having 50 million isk and not using gear that actually spends that money is pointless, though I still only used Advanced weapons because of the cost to effectiveness ratio. What is funny is that I still sometimes b**ch and moan when someone kills me with Prototype gear.
"Ohh, good for you! You kill me in proto-, oh, right, I was in my prototype Scout." Just a reflex from the last 20 months.
I can still understand why people do not like prototype gear as they may still be new players or going to a new role. When someone has double your HP and probably 20% more DPS, you cannot kill them nearly as effectively as they can kill you. Some people may still be trying to earn enough money to effectively use prototype gear for as long as the game holds their interest like many of us.
What I think is the funniest thing is the arguments for using prototype gear rather than "well, I have the money and the gear is better so I use it", which is honesty. * "I use it because ISK payouts are so low that I cannot afford to die many times." Which is basically "I cannot afford to get a scratch on my Ford Escort so I am driving a Lamborghini." * "We use it because we are better than you. You see, we were able to be isk positive when we were using basic gear and now we are isk positive using proto gear. We are so much better than you because we can use proto gear!" It is basically the flipped version of "I don't use proto gear so I am better than you." * "It is exciting to use prototype gear!" This is only true if you are SP high and ISK really low.
Of course, the only Prototype suit I use is my Scout because my advanced Logi is nearly the same price and I am still a miserly bastard.
"This is B.S! This is B.S! I paid money! Cash money, dollars money, cash money!"

I'm wierd. I have access to proto but never use it in pubs. Tried it once and felt dirty. Far more of a challenge to stay out of proto. I think I would get bored too quick and start blaming new players in militia gear for everything if I ran proto all the time.
That said, full core skills and advanced gear is just the same until a proto squad turns up. |

I've never had problems with people running Proto suits. To me, it simply means they are trying.
I have far larger issues with people doing nothing in standard, starter or free suits. You generally don't have that issue with people who run proto (redline snipers notwithstanding). |

Personally I think running Proto in Pubs is bad form as it hurts new player retention. That said, if the other team is full of proto running stompers then I run proto.
Proto is FW is fine and in PC it is expected/necessary. |

True...
A TRUE PROTOGEAR (not aurum ones)... got lvl 4-5 in profency... so they can play with basic and adv gear... and still have advantage and is not expensive... but... Playing with a proto aurum (the only requirement is lvl3) is a cheap advantage... (pay to win) This is the bussines for CCP... "moaaa!!! mom... a scrub kill me with a super powered suit... give me $20 so i can buy it one too !!!"
Good for bussines, bad for Players retention.

I don't run proto in pubs either, not because I can't afford it or have any huge ethical issue with it (depending on the skill and equipment of the opponents) but mostly just because I seem to have some kind of neuroses where I MUST stay isk positive in matches. In the last year I think I've gone negative maybe 5 times and that's including crashing ADS's before the price dump.
Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair.

I understand your frustration with Aurum gear having lower SP requirements, but as far as player retention is concerned I think you have it backwards. A new player can save literally millions of SP by using the $4.99 racial packs to gain access to proto gear and get a competitive edge against players with over 50 mil more SP than they have. Allowing newer players to use the best gear in the game is not going to discourage them from playing, if anything it will help keep them feeling enthusiastic about the massive uphill climb they have ahead of them to keep pace with the beta vets.
Dust can be frustrating. (Gò»°Gûí°)Gò»n+¦ Gö+GöüGö+)

I don't use proto in pubs generally. Its far to expensive for someone who rarely PCs anymore. My issue is the mentality of some corps that you HAVE to use proto. I joined a squad the other day (I was solo, and there was a spot free,) and after the match they asked if I could run proto. I said "yes, but I won't." They then said that they had to kick me from squad if I wasn't going to run proto. The funny thing about this, is that I did better than they did in my adv gear and they were all proto....
I only play dust514ums now. It was always more fun than the actual game anyways.

Amen, also i would like to OB this whole thread, proto-stomping-sillypeople.
Really, sod off with the whole player retention argument based on proto stuff people use. New people get scared off by being stomped around continuously by people that are BETTER then them. They run in squads, know the maps, know the fittings, know the FOTM, know typical player behavior.
Which is fine... you can't seriously expect people who spent 1+ Years in this game to acquire SP and ISK for gear to not use it because the game needs more people playing it? If i had the ISK to run proto full time i clacking would. Isn't that the whole point of this mercenary mallarky? Just come up with a better Newbie pampering plan if you want them to stay, and if you want more people? Wake up the marketing team, you still have a commercial laying around.
