Seriously, why do shield extenders take up almost and in some cases more PG than Armor plates? Seriously, it is easier to fit a shield suit with armor modules than actual shield modules. P.S. they cost a lot more CPU too.

It actually requires 2 recharges (excluding the other modules that take away shields)

I dunno why I even opened my mouth lol I know jack about shields I thought regulators were low slots :/ What if they combined regulators & rechargers into one skill but just slightly reduced the effectiveness so you have less mods to worry about like armor.

Armor among the races in balanced- Gallante gets repair Amarr- can tank
Shield among the races is not balanced- Caldari-Shield tank, and can recharge Minmatar- not shield tanking pros.
What needs to happen is we need to give Minmatar better recharge capabilities.
I was thinking 35 shield reps per sec base 5/7 delay.

You can rep at 50 HP/s without a regulator or extender. Neither of those affect your regen rate.

I don't even use Basic Armor Plates because they slow me down.
I use Ferroscale plates and those have around the same area of HP give or take a few HP but they don't have fast native recharge so I can't just stack Ferroscales and be happy. I have to use at least two slots for Repair modules.
If I had the SP in everything I have now but swap Caldari for Gallente I can have a Caldari Assault ck.0 like this:
Highs: x4 Complex Shield Extenders x1 Shield Regulator
Lows: x3 Complex Regulators (Only because I'm a purist) but lets be honest, the rest of you would swap up the third regulator for an armor plate, you filth.
Weapons: Iskhuk. Assault Rail Rifle Kaala. Magses SMG Wirk. AV grenade (again, purist)
ADV Nanite Injector (if you put an armor plate you could get the proto one but I use an ADV on my Gallassault)
CPU579.1325 / 526.3125gF PG84.50625 / 80.0625kW

There's no way that suit is not impressive. It's easily on par with my Gallente Assault gk.0 as far as stats go. My suit which has 591 armor and 194 shields same speed but more can do more damage because of the damage mods thankfully.
And in all honesty, because it's Caldari I wouldn't even put on the Recharger, I'd put on another extender and lower the third regulator to advanced but that's only because I play EVE.
The Caldari Assault Suit is soooo good. But sadly I commonly see ck.0 fits with more armor than shields.... filthy plebs.

You should think of it like this. Armour was never meant to have native reps. A shield Extender provides X Shield but unlike armour would regenerate without the requirements of a module those hit points many times over in the course of a battle at a naturally high rate.

The majority of suits that rely on shielding have the poorest possible shield regen, delays, etc so usually 2 advanced regulators and up are needed(due to the fact that 2 adv regulators cut the delay by half, making the usual 5 and 6 second delay times far more bearable) Rechargers are needed because of the low regeneration number is there, and the best shield extenders are needed because out of the 4 rifle typs, 3 rerdless of damage profile will viciously tear shields down. Shield tanking suits need a lot of CPU/PG for this, yet everything neededing a lot of CPU instead of PG cuts down on statistical diversity, and often times the shield tanking suits do not have the CPU required for the indiverse CPU intensive stats. It really should be where things that come from the gallente and minmatar use more PG rather than CPU, or at least things in the low slots use more PG than CPU and high slot modules do the opposite.

Serious question, have you actually used shield tanked suits? You said earlier that you can't just stack ferroscales and be good... a Caldari assault with extenders stacked is a pretty **** fit bro... 30 regen a second sounds great and all but 0 damage from a forge gun splash effect will stop that regen, let alone any stray bullet. A Caldari assault that is brick tanked with nothing but extenders in the high will be hiding in corners for most of the engagements and easily be flanked. Before I respecced Minmitar I used to use Gallente, Minmitar, and Caldari suits at adv level and by far it was more effective to run a Gallente armor rep skirmisher with equivalent e/hp as my Caldari skirmisher. The Gallente skirmisher had 20 shield regen and 16 armor rep while the Caldari Skirmisher had 40 shield regen and 6 armor repair. I could effectively hold off targets and take a ton of punishment to then repair as long as I was able to keep players at range. I had two choices on the Caldari skirmisher... wait until I was fully recharged which made me extremely vulnerable to flanking or I could peak out and risk my shields being reset until they did flank me.
I just wish players who have never really explored both styles would refrain from claiming to understand both sides. |

I actually edited my post to include that question lol, and still there's no reason not to armor tank at long ranges. Let me ask you a question... How often is a Rail Rifle outside of Laser Rifle range? Also, as I did point out at any range where a gun registers a hit will your shields reset which makes traversing the map in shield tanked Caldari suits pretty difficult. Their regen doesn't really matter unless you can rely on your team to carry you when your waiting around. This can be done by armor tanks too though. With the added benefit that they can help in a fight while repairing. |

I shield tanked once but that was ages ago, that doesn't mean that I forgot how to properly fit a shield tanked suit and I have a Caldari alt that does just fine and he only has 9 mil SP. Advanced tier stuff but damn it's impressive.
So, long story short. I've been here longer, I play EVE, I've played the suits and have common sense. So I will continue to correct shield tankers when they are wrong because I have a little bit more understanding about shield tanking than some casual.

I do agree at range under certain circumstances Shield tanking is tolerable, but given the layout of most objectives it's not very useful, and the bigger issue to me is that Armor tanks can stay at range as well, and perform much better in CQC. Movement, speed aside. |

You haven't played them in ages? Explain how that makes you an expert? Shield tanking isn't how it was back when I started and I haven't even been here since beta only uprising. Define just fine on your Caldari alt? Do you solo play the alt and do you go for the objective? Because I found in solo play I can solo hold objectives much better as an armor tank Gallente assault then I ever could as a Caldari. Also, mentioning EvE just makes you sound under confident about your position as you should know that has no bearing on this game whatsoever. You are just trying to sound important because you have played an older CCP game that is from a completely different genre.
I mention solo play because literally any build is effective if you have a competent squad backing you that is playing towards the current meta.
I'm good at checkers!!! Bet i'll be good at axis and allies!! That's what you sound like right now. |
